Here's some more video stuff from this past year!

@darian.donovan.thomas brought me on to do visuals for his symphony, Flowercloud for @cabrillofestival this past summer. This is maybe the most meaningful project I got to work on this past year for a lot of reasons: getting to make visual art for my best friend, working on a piece for and about our queer elders, meeting the amazing commissioners who started the first Santa Cruz pride march 50 years ago, and having all of this be this first time I got to perform visuals live was the cherry on top. by @phongs_pc

Late on posting year end review things, but I realized I just didn’t actually post much of what was happening over the last year. 2025 felt like a big year for my visual art - a lot of that thanks to @darian.donovan.thomas trusting me with his album release(es) for A Room With Many Doors (and his symphony premiere which I’ll post stuff from maybe next week?)

These videos are excerpts from the visuals for the album release show at the Lincoln Center atrium, and is to this day one of the most memorable performances I’ve ever gotten to do both as a visual artist and musician. 🪻🪻💖🔪💖🔪💖🪻🪻 by @phongs_pc

We’re excited to welcome back composer Phong Tran for SCULPTURE-DANCES : KYKUIT (Sept 11–13 at The Pocantico Center)

After collaborating with Phong on Unfolding Olana in 2024, we’re thrilled to extend our partnership into Kykuit’s extraordinary sculpture gardens. His new spatial score—an all-electronic composition—creates a surprising counterpoint to the site’s deep sense of history.

Responding to the gardens’ inherent tension between classical order and dynamic modern sculpture, Phong has composed a series of scenes separated by interstitial zones, each defined by its own musical world. This living score will be experienced through a network of speakers strategically placed across the landscape, guiding the audience as they move between dancers and sculptures.

Together, dance, sculpture, and sound will transform Nelson Rockefeller’s visionary gardens into a multi-sensory performance environment.

📅 September 11–13, 2025

I’m back home from a really amazing week in Santa Cruz - it’s always a joy to get to work with the genius/composer/style icon/director/best friend @darian.donovan.thomas - he got commissioned by @cabrillofestival make a piece to celebrate Santa Cruz’s 50th pride anniversary and asked me to make live visuals to go along with his Symphony. The music is so stunning and it was really incredible to see all of the musicians give it everything they had with so much enthusiasm.

I’m so glad and thankful to get to be a part of this, especially for a work so meaningful and powerfully and to have it come from people who fought and sacrificed so much for us to have the lives and we have today. 🪻🌺🌻🪷 by @phongs_pc

I'm really excited to perform a bunch of fun shows in the next few weeeeeks!

This Fridayyy --- I'm premiering a series of new works for @thepresentkairos and @fra_cturedsq at @fort.hamilton.distillery The pieces all come from a back and forth dialogue of music and sculpture by Aye Min Thant. It's been a ~while~ since I've gotten to be in just "Composer" mode so this has been really fun and I'm so excited to premiere these pieces. I'm also doing a short set of my modular/electronic music before the show and @mezzo4te is also playing a set!

And then May 3rd --- my wonderfully talented partner @weatough has a gallery opening of his visual work in Red Hook at @comperecollectiv - I'll be playing a short set inspired by his pieces to kick off the gallery which runs through May 30th.

And then May 8th! -- I'm playing a heavy and VERY synthy duo set with @kevinkenkel at @cutelab_nyc with sets by @jan.esbra + @noahrottkeys and @isalexkoi + @maysun.music + @kengchakaj

Excited for all of these shows - Come through and hang! 🎉 by @phongs_pc

🔊 Two gay guys vibing 🔊

Phong Tran & Kevin Kenkel

@phongs_pc

The sequence (Kevin) is a mess of polyrhythm from various clock divisions controlling a Moog Matriarch, two Moog DFAMs (two different clock speeds), and a Subharmonicon (offscreen). High freqs from Moog Mavis controlled by little keyboard - resonance and cutoff set pretty high. by @phongs_pc
