Damn! I’m in the finals!

I honestly can’t believe it.

Thank you so, so much for choosing my picture. It means a lot to me.

A huge thank you to everyone involved at @abbeyroadmpa and of course, @doctor_venus_ . ❤️

Now there’s not much left to do except cross my fingers.

I’ll do my best to make it to the award show in London!

Still trying to wrap my head around this… what a feeling.

Angel

Shot on 10 years expired @kodak_shootfilm

2,000 negatives later… and I honestly thought I wouldn’t shoot that much film. 😆

It took me ages, but I finally finished digitising everything.

Ironically, my favourite shot wasn’t planned at all. It happened because I accidentally created a double exposure. Both photos were taken months apart. One frame was from Sanja Matsuri 2025 in Asakusa, where I met this geisha. The other was a Tokyo cityscape. Somehow, they ended up becoming one.

Moments like this remind me why I fell in love with photography in the first place.

Not everything has to be technically perfect. Sometimes the accidents tell the best stories.

And while we’re at it…

Go out and support new talent. Support small artists. Give photographers who are still finding their voice a chance.

We’re all tired of seeing the same ten names, the same style, and the same photos over and over again.

So stop this circle jer…

There are so many incredible people creating amazing work that never gets the attention it deserves.

Moment of a lifetime

Now I’m back from London…

It honestly felt like a dream.

From the moment I received the message from Abbey Road Studios telling me I was one of the finalists and inviting me to the award show inside the legendary studios in London, to the days before when I explored London on my own, and finally to the moments, conversations and beers I shared with lovely new people from all around the world who share the same passion ,photography.

I still can’t really describe what happened. Everything still feels unreal.

I may not have won the prize, but I won something that means so much more to me: new friends, new connections, so much motivation, and so much positive feedback about my work and the way people see it ,especially coming from some real legends in the business.

This moment will stay with me forever. No one can take that away from me.

I’ll continue doing my thing. I won’t change my photography for an algorithm, trends or what other people think I should be doing.

I want to thank my wife Emi for always supporting me, and my family for giving me so much love and encouragement.

My buddy Jason @jgarcia.tokyo , who convinced me to enter this contest in the first place.

Thank you to @benedan__ and his family and @zewdoo Ian for giving me the chance, right from the beginning, to present my work in Tokyo. I will never forget that and I’ll always be grateful for your support and trust in my work. ❤️

My friends in Japan and so so many more around the world who have always supported my work and given me so much good advice.

To @kraeuterbalist and @codymiles for your honesty and kindness and a lot of the times kicking my butt😂.

Part I.

Every year on November 3, the streets of Yumoto in Hakone come alive with the Hakone Daimyo Gyoretsu parade. The procession of about 400 people dressed as samurai, princesses and other figures stride six kilometers through the famous hot spring town.

Hiwatari Firefestival

The Fire Walking Festival (火渡りまつり, hiwatari matsuri)

-The temple's annual fire-walking festival is held annually on the 2nd Sunday of March. The event is one example of traditional asceticism practiced by a certain type of Buddhist monk called yamabushi. At the festival, worshippers pray for safety for their families and themselves, as well as for protection from traffic accidents. They then follow the yamabushi as they walk barefoot over smoldering coals produced by a sacred fire. The main highlight of the event is seeing the monks walk through the flames as they chant.-
