☀️ ¡Educando hoy para una piel más saludable mañana!

El Programa de Residencia de Dermatología de Ponce Health Sciences University (PHSU) llevó a cabo una actividad educativa y comunitaria en la Escuela Especializada de Bellas Artes Ernesto Ramos Antonini, en Yauco, como parte de una iniciativa educativa de la American Academy of Dermatology (AAD).

La actividad fue organizada por el Dr. Ángel Pagán González, residente de Dermatología de PHSU, junto a estudiantes de Medicina, quienes se unieron para educar a los niños sobre la importancia del cuidado de la piel y la prevención desde temprana edad.

A través de iniciativas como esta, reafirmamos nuestro compromiso con la educación en salud, la prevención y el bienestar de nuestras comunidades. 💙

Effective leadership means staying connected to the people and experiences shaping our mission.

In higher education, some of the most valuable perspectives come from simply being in the rooms where learning happens. Listening. Asking questions. Understanding how our decisions translate into the experiences of our students.

Spending time in @phsupr's Dental SIM Lab recently, I saw how our students are developing their skills through the care we put into our facilities, technology, and faculty that support their learning.

Moments like these shape how we approach education at PHSU. When we bring together the right resources, faculty expertise, and learning environments, we prepare future healthcare professionals to do more than excel clinically. Hace un año me paré por primera vez frente al podio de SPOT, todavía como estudiante de medicina. Este año volví, ya como MD, y con el orgullo de representar al Departamento de Cirugía Ortopédica de Ponce Health Sciences University (@phsupr @ponceresearch). 🦴🇵🇷

Presenté nuestro trabajo “Diagnostic Bias, Confidence Miscalibration, and Test-Retest Reliability of Three General-Purpose Multimodal Large Language Models for Wrist Radiograph Interpretation”, que salió publicado hace poco en el Journal of Orthopaedics and Sports Medicine.

La pregunta era sencilla: ¿se puede confiar en la inteligencia artificial que ya todos tenemos en el bolsillo para leer una radiografía? Pusimos a prueba a Claude Opus 4.6, GPT-4o y Gemini 2.5 Pro con 237 estudios de muñeca del set de validación MURA. Además de ver si acertaban, quisimos saber si su confianza tenía que ver con sus aciertos, y si al mostrarles la misma imagen dos veces contestaban lo mismo.

La respuesta fue que no. Cada modelo se equivocó a su manera, su nivel de confianza poco tenía que ver con si estaba en lo correcto, y en ocasiones la misma radiografía recibía un veredicto distinto la segunda vez. Son herramientas prometedoras, pero todavía no están listas para tomar decisiones por nosotros.

Compartir esto con la comunidad ortopédica de mi isla tuvo un significado especial.

Norma Arciniegas, Decana Asociada de Facultad y Asuntos Clínicos, representaron a PHSU en la presentación del Museo del Salón de la Fama de la Medicina Puertorriqueña, en la Escuela de Medicina San Juan Bautista.
Este museo nos plasma parte de la historia de la medicina en Puerto Rico para inspirar a las nuevas generaciones de profesionales de la salud. 🩺✨

Hoy, nuestros estudiantes del Bachillerato en Ciencias de Enfermería de PHSU San Juan tuvieron su primera experiencia en el Laboratorio de Anatomía, dando un paso importante en su formación práctica.

Experiencias como esta les permiten conectar los conocimientos adquiridos en el salón de clases con una comprensión más profunda del cuerpo humano y de los fundamentos del cuidado al paciente.

🩺 Exploring the Future of Health Sciences at PHSU!

We were excited to welcome students from WALKS WEB School, Medlife High School Chapter, to Ponce Health Sciences University for an immersive campus experience.

During their visit, students toured our campus and explored our Dental Medicine, Nursing, and Anatomy laboratories, as well as our Standardized Patient facilities. They also had the opportunity to learn more about our academic programs and the diverse career paths available in the health sciences.

Formerly a Platoon Leader with the 162nd Quartermaster Company, 2LT Reyes is taking a giant leap forward in his military and medical career. Currently a second-year medical student at Ponce Health Sciences University (PHSU), he has been reappointed as a Medical Student (00E) under the highly competitive Medical & Dental Student Stipend Program (MDSSP).

He is bringing his passion for medicine and leadership to the Joint Force Headquarters-Puerto Rico (JFHQ-PR) State Surgeon Office, where he will work alongside our state’s top military medical professionals and fellow students.
