There are less than 5 hours left to cast your ballot in this year’s Democratic Primary Election. Now is the time to make history.

I’m doing this because I love Queens. New York is my forever home. I love it here and I will always be eternally grateful for the love it gives me in return.

Being your Assemblywoman would be an extension of all the work I have already been doing here in Queens.

Art has always been political.

At MoMA PS1, estebancabezadebaca Esteban Cabeza de Baca’s plaza mural reminds us that struggles for justice are interconnected - workers’ rights, immigrant rights, environmental protection, and community power.

Drawing from the United Farm Workers movement, Liberation Theology, Indigenous traditions, and the history of public art, the mural transforms public space into a vision of resistance, survival, and collective liberation.

I, Pia Rahman, candidate for New York State Assembly in District 37, stand with Indivisible Western Queens and the De-ICE Citizens Bank coalition in condemning Citizens Bank for profiting from ICE’s cruel immigration agenda. I’m aware that Citizens Bank is a financier for The GEO Group and CoreCivic, private prison corporations that currently hold more than half of ICE detainees in abusive camps. Because of this, I have confirmed my campaign has no funds with Citizens Bank and will not use Citizens Bank until they end their relationship with The GEO Group and CoreCivic. I call on my colleagues in government to do the same.

Our immigrant neighbors who are being held in ICE camps, the overwhelming majority of whom have no criminal record, have been subjected to physical abuse, spoiled food, and inadequate medical care. They are denied due process while The GEO Group and CoreCivic profit off of their imprisonment. Since the beginning of the Trump administration, 51 of our neighbors have died in ICE detention, marking the highest death rate in over two decades.

Citizens Bank’s decision to continue financing this violence has inflicted an immense cost on our communities. I call on Citizens Bank to end their relationships with The GEO Group and CoreCivic. taken in Queens, New York by @piarahman37
