POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

21 years ago, Hilary Duff released “Wake Up”.
(July 12, 2005)

Released as the lead single for her first greatest hits album “Most Wanted” by Hollywood Records, the song was a departure from Hilary’s signature teen pop-rock sound. Despite receiving mixed reviews from critics, “Wake Up” achieved commercial success. At just 17 years old, the song reached the top 20 in Australia, Europe, Ireland, Italy, Norway, Scotland, Spain and the UK. In the United States, the song debuted at number 29 on the Billboard Hot 100, becoming the week’s highest debut, due to high digital download sales. The music video, directed by Marc Webb, peaked at number one on MTV’s Total Request Live (TRL). by @piecesof2000s

23 years ago, Britney Spears & Madonna released “Me Against The Music” as the lead single for “In The Zone”.

Released October 14, 2003, “Me Against The Music” became the first single to credit Madonna as a featured artist in her 20-year career. Produced by Tricky Stewart and Penelope Magnet, during the rehearsals for the MTV VMAs 2003, Spears played the song to Madonna and asked her to collaborate. Lyrically, the song talks about battling the music and the pleasures of letting go on the Dancefloor.

The song received generally mixed reviews from music critics, some calling it a strong song while others saying it felt lackluster. Commercially, “Me Against The Music” peaked at number 35 on the Billboard Hot 100. Globally, however, the song peaked in the top 10 in Australia, Austria, Belgium, Canada, Croatia, Czech Republic, Denmark, Europe, Finland, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Netherlands, Norway, Romania, Scotland, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland and the UK. The song won “Hot Dance Single of the Year” at the Billboard Music Awards 2004.
