Happy and humbled to have worked on the public program of the exhibition Rethinking Nature at the Madre museum curated by Kathryn Weir and Ilaria Conti.

The program has set out to expand the forms of critical thought that emerged from the exhibition through a variety of activities such as: visits to the botanical garden of Naples curated by Maria Thereza Alves, seminars and reading groups, walks in search of the invisibilized hydrocommons of Naples and its outskirts, webinars and workshops led by the artists and many more.

I am very excited to share some images of the freshly printed SICILIA - a new journal on the theory of landscape, art and southern epistemologies published by @istitutosicilia

The journal aims to produce new research on Sicily and the mediterranean by commissioning texts and other forms of contributions to researchers from various disciplines.

Honored to have my text in this pilot issue among those of @aifos_gotti Christian Greco, @clagulli and @renato.leotta !

A big thank you to @sanclementebeachbum and @un.po.giu for their editorial support, and the many collaborators that have made this first issue possible.

This is the last week to visit “Mondo. Museo Archeologico del Reale”, an exhibition by Renato Leotta that I co-curated together with Claudio Gulli.

This exhibition is the result of a two-year-long process of research, conversations, and various encounters held here in Sicily along the Ionian coast, a process that has now gained a life of its own and will evolve pass the purposes and time frame of the exhibition.

I am very grateful to all the people that have accompanied us on this journey, a list that would go on forever. My deepest thanks go to Renato and Claudio for all the work that they have put into this project and for their generosity in sharing ideas and knowledge.

Oggi inauguriamo 'Mondo. Museo Archeologico del Reale, una mostra di @renato.leotta a cura mia e di @clagulli

Il progetto nasce da una riflessione sul museo come dispositivo che inventa la natura attraverso il metodo tassonomico. Partendo da una ricerca sul Museo Biscari, un museo ormai 'perduto', Mondo propone una mise en scene di un nuovo 'Museo Archeologico del Reale', dove concetti di natura e cultura vengono trattati su un unico piano epistemologico.

Vi aspettiamo Palazzo Biscari (Catania) a partire dalle 18! La mostra si potrà visitare fino al 31 agosto by @pietroscm

Oggi a @oceanspaceorg dalle 15 alle 18 ascolteremo POSIDONIA, un progetto di @renato.leotta in collaborazione con i musicisti Nello e Davide Toscano. Grazie a @tba21academy , tutto il team di Ocean Space, e @barbara_casavecchia per il prezioso aiuto. Qualche riga sul progetto:

La posidonia oceanica è una pianta marina endemica del Mare Mediterraneo. Conosciuta anche come il "polmone del Mediterraneo", la posidonia prende il suo nome da Poseidone, il dio greco del mare, perché è un regolatore essenziale della vita marina.

Oltre a produrre importanti quantità di ossigeno tramite la fotosintesi, il suo fogliame e rizoma ospitano vari organismi fornendo un habitat fertile per la produzione e la rigenerazione della biomassa marina. Come tanti altri bioindicatori, la posidonia è in via di estinzione a causa del riscaldamento antropico delle acque.

Tramite un ingranditore fotografico, l'artista Renato Leotta ha impresso una stampa analogica di una foglia di posidonia usando il fogliame trasparente come una vera e propria pellicola fotografica.

L’immagine ingrandita della foglia mette in luce la sua struttura anatomica, caratterizzata da venature parallele sulle quali sono disposte cellule a tannino che appaiono come macchie bianche sulla carta fotosensibile.

Riconoscendo un’analogia tra la configurazione di queste cellule sui filamenti della foglia e la disposizione di note musicali lungo il pentagramma di uno spartito, Leotta ha chiesto ai musicisti Nello e Davide Toscano di tradurre la composizione anatomica delle foglie in una sequenza di note musicali.

La melodia ottenuta deriva dunque da processi ibridi, un esercizio musicale che tenta di ascoltare il Mediterraneo attraverso uno dei suoi più importanti endemismi in via di estinzione.

La sperimentazione di un nuovo linguaggio musicale che si propaga nella struttura monumentale della chiesa di San Lorenzo è anche un cenno a l’opera sperimentale Prometeo. Tragedia dell’ascolto di Luigi Nono, che riducendo il linguaggio a sillabe e frammenti distribuiti in partiture, portava al limite dell’inaudibile variazioni di suoni quasi alieni. by @pietroscm
