🎀 HUFS '23 Judges Winner

POSTS STORIES REELS

I'm still reeling from this evening and being chosen as the Judges' Winner for the 2023 Her Universe Fashion Show. I have to keep pinching myself to remind myself I'm awake because it really is a dream come true. The pool of designers this year was such an incredible collection of talent and creativity and altogether amazing people. I'm honored to share this experience with them and I know there's going to be many lasting friendships. I have so much I want to show you about my Totally Minnie look, but right now I'm gonna get some sleep because I've spent pretty much every waking non-day-job-working moment on this for the past 2 months. Huge shout out to @jybelly for being the best backstage buddy I could ask for, to @andrewmaclaine for the runway coaching, to the judges who recognized my hard work, and to @ashleyeckstein and the whole @heruniverse crew for creating this amazing opportunity. ♥️

Love this photo from the @heruniverse fashion show by @mark_edwards_photographer where you can see everything -- the audience, the stage, the DJ, the lights, the joy ❤️

Happy Friday!

Happy Halloween! I celebrated with a Halloween themed afternoon tea at @sip_tea_room in San Francisco. We started off with some bubbly, purple prosecco potion (or cider if you were driving like me) and then moved on to the main service. We each picked our own tea which we enjoyed with sausage rolls, scones, delicious tiny sandwiches, and thematic desserts (the ube mochi butter cake was my favorite 🤤). I loved how they decorated the place -- it was both spooky and fun!

Naturally we all showed up in costume. I rocked a 70's look that I made ages ago (oldie but goodie). @jybelly and @lauren_bellydancer rocked the Hobbit look. @sarahseacorsetry swam in as a dark mermaid along side @smielika as a beta. And @veronicaluciasierra completed our sextet as the resident witch.

How are you celebrating tonight? Hope your evening is filled with more treats than tricks! 🎃👻

I made a broom! Actually, I made two! 🧹✨

A couple of weeks ago, I took a broom-making workshop with @studio_francine at @needlesstudio . Having taken her spoon carving workshop previously, I knew it would be a good time and got @simply_mi to join me!

We learned all about hand broom materials, tools, and traditional techniques. After crafting a practice broom to get the feel for it, we chose our broomcorn and decorative elements to design a custom piece with dried flowers. Everyone in class was so friendly, and Laura even brought delicious home-baked pumpkin bread to snack on. 🎃🍞

Do I have a new hobby? We'll see... 😏 If you're interested, @studio_francine is teaching another broom class next week—I highly recommend it as a fun, creative way to celebrate spooky season!

It may be heading into winter, but I'm trying to make summer last a little longer with these BFF Bermuda Shorts—the latest release from @patternemporium_kate . I really enjoyed testing this pattern! As with all Pattern Emporium patterns, the instructions were clear and the fit was great.

I made a size 10 (my measured size) with just a little extra scoop out of the back crotch curve. They are mid-rise and flat front in the shortest length. I added the side pockets, and I really liked the construction technique for those! Fabric is a dead stock linen rayon blend from @califabrics . Definitely planning to make the pants version for some secret work pajamas when I've got some more time.

The pattern is available now on the Pattern Emporium website if you want to make your own pair!

Got to attend a @sensesensibilityfilm slumber party with @freshfrippery and @waxsealedcostumes ! Before the show, @freshfrippery and I took some fun photos at the photobooth. While we settled in with the popcorn and soda they provided, I checked out the sweet goodie bag they gave us with a lovely makeup bag and makeup from Estée Lauder, a hair clip, and the book!

Confession: I've actually never read Sense and Sensibility 🫣 so I was very happy they included it and I'm adding it to my TBR. 📚

We finished up the evening playing with the silhouette creator and taking a few more photos.

I really enjoyed the movie -- it's a great romance with surprisingly fun, witty humor throughout -- and seeing it with friends in pajamas was a wonderful way to watch it!

I made a glowing LED ghost pin for a ghost tour that I took with @thehauntghosttours to celebrate spooky season! I modified an existing model to turn it into a pin, added some diffuser, and popped in an LED. It was great having a ghost buddy with me to light the way while we sought out other spirits in San Francisco!

Thanks @freshfrippery for inviting me along on the tour!

Norway photodump part 2. More things that piqued my interest and made me smile. Most of these are in/near Oslo or Tromsø.

I took myself on some runs while I was in Norway. It was a great way to get closer to the natural beauty. The country is amazing and I seriously felt like I was in a fantasy novel.

Norway photodump part 1. Random photos from my summer visit to Norway. Things that I found interesting, amusing, or beautiful. This set is all from in and around the Lofoten Islands.

Photodump from the royal dress exhibit at the National Museum in Oslo so you can see some of the magnificent details on the gowns. Pretty sure not all of the dresses were Queen Maud's as there were some from the second half of the 20th century (I'm seriously inspired by that pink 60s dress), but all of them were stunning.

While I was in Oslo, I *had* to go to the National Museum to see Queen Maud's wardrobe. I adore just about everything she's ever worn. I have a book about her wardrobe that I pour over for inspiration. I was not missing the chance to see some of her garments up close, in person.

The National Museum in Oslo has about 600 pieces from her wardrobe and about 20 pieces were on display. While I was a little disappointed there weren't more, I totally get that they probably rotate them to protect the delicate, antique fabrics. That being said, the pieces they had were so delicious. 🤩 So much detail. So much craftsmanship. I took pictures from just about every angle so that I could reference them when I get home. I even made my husband go back to the room again on the way out just so I could get some more time drooling over them.

Obviously I'll be back to see more as soon as I can 😍
