Next year, we will present a solo exhibition at TOTO GALLERY·MA in Tokyo.

Over the past four decades, the gallery has organised a limited number of exhibitions each year, inviting contemporary practices to take over its space and share their ideas.

We are very grateful to the committee for the invitation.

Opening 10 September 2027 and running until the end of November.

This series of particle boards develops our earlier studies, exploring how discarded timber can be reconfigured while retaining the character of the source material.

Lignin, a natural polymer that binds the fibres in wood and a by-product of paper production, serves as the binding agent, with variations in particle size, density and colour remaining present in each board.

The boards derive their properties and appearance from both the material’s former configurations and the process through which it is recomposed. by @pihlmann

For the past few years, we have been discussing with @pihlmann architects about their architectural approach and philosophy.

This October, those conversations become a book.

A monograph exploring adaptive transformation, permanence, and the architecture of what already exists.

The book is divided into three parts: two conversations, held five years apart, and a selection of projects.

Pre-orders are now open via the link in our bio or on our website qndmc.com

‘Making Matter What Too Often Does Not Matter’ was published on the occasion of ‘Build of Site’, our contribution to the 2025 @labiennale.

Authored by poet Adam Dickinson and architect Søren Pihlmann, the book takes the project as its point of departure to examine a site-derived architecture shaped by the materials, conditions and processes already present.

Designed by @linegry, edited by @markrogh and @chrissiemuhr, with images by @hampusberndtson and cover texts by @office_for_soft_architecture, @nikolaj.schultz and @aaronbetsky.

Printed in Venice by @grafiche_veneziane and published by @buchhandlungwaltherfranzkoenig and @danisharchitecturalpress.

With support from @statenskunstfond, @realdaniadk, @danisharchitecturecenter and @dreyersfond.

Thoravej 29 has received first prize in the Renovation category at the @detailmagazine Construction Award 2026.

"Thoravej in Copenhagen demonstrates how an everyday, almost unremarkable building can be transformed into something extraordinary. The effort involved in experiments, tests and verifications, which must have posed a major challenge given the regulations, should not be underestimated. Structurally, the reuse of the prestressed TT slabs as a staircase is impressive. The solution is compelling in its clarity and consistency. We need more projects like this."

The renovation of the Danish Pavilion in Venice addresses recurring flooding.

In the functionalist extension from 1960, the floors are being raised to protect the building against water ingress. As part of this work, the substructure is strengthened to allow for heavier artworks and installations.

Existing sandstone tiles have been carefully lifted and will be relaid in the main exhibition space. Tiles broken during removal are crushed and reused as aggregate in a new terrazzo floor for the entrance and corridor areas.

The existing windows are restored and adapted to the slightly reduced height of the openings. One fixed window in the entrance area has been transformed into a pivot door by adding a new frame and hinge around the existing wooden frame. During several recent exhibitions, this window had been removed to improve circulation.

The plan drawings show the pavilion before the renovation, during our 2025 exhibition, and after the works to be completed before the 2027 exhibition.

We have been nominated for the Schelling Architecture Prize 2026.

“Søren Pihlmann is nominated for the Schelling Architecture Award 2026 for his rigorous and forward-thinking approach to architecture as transformation. His work demonstrates how existing structures can become the foundation for new spatial, material, and cultural value. By advancing reuse as both an ecological imperative and an architectural language, Pihlmann redefines the potential of building with what already exists.”

Together with @agwa_architecture and @abruptarhitectura, we are nominated under this year’s theme, ‘Building on the Built’, focusing on architecture that works from the existing built environment as a starting point for resource conservation, continuity and new spatial, sensory and social qualities.

The Schelling Architecture Prize has been awarded every two years since 1992.

Previous winners include Zaha Hadid, Peter Zumthor, Kazuyo Sejima, Raumlabor, Lacaton & Vassal, Jensen Skodvin, Wang Shu, Diébédo Francis Kéré, De Vylder Vinck Taillieu, Rotor, Lina Ghotmeh and Sophie Delhay.

The award ceremony takes place in Karlsruhe on 18 November 2026.

Thank you to the Schelling Architecture Foundation and the Board of Trustees.

Congratulations to artist Maja Malou Lyse @habitual_body_monitoring2, whose exhibition ‘Things to Come’ has opened in the Danish Pavilion at @labiennale.

Looking at the installation images, we fully understand that this might not be the centre of attention for anyone but us...

Anyway, here is a brief update on the renovation we set in motion as part of our exhibition ‘Build of Site’, which opened exactly one year ago.

As the images show, the pivot door, made by adding a new frame and hinge to the fixed window, is complete, while the rework of the floor remains temporarily on hold beneath the blue surface.

Once Lyse’s exhibition closes, the final phase will be carried out, before @dominiqueserena exhibits in 2027.
