April,

I’m sitting on the couch in our vacation rental, watching trashy reality tv while you are knocked the fuck out on the other side. This is one of my favorite ways to spend time with you: in our pjs, trashy tv on, empty takeout boxes on the coffee table, while we sit in comfortable silence, doing our own thing (usually on our phones). Some people might think this is lame, but to me, it’s the perfect representation of how we don’t need anything special to have a good time, just each other.
You are my best friend, my sister, my person. Every day of my life is better because you are in it. Every grocery trip, every day of body doubling while the other does housework, every concert, every road trip, I am glad to spend with you. You make me laugh, you make me smile, you make me feel appreciated, and seen, and understood. You get me in a way that very few people do.
You are one of the strongest and bravest people I know, a true girl boss in every sense of the word. You bring dedication and integrity to everything that you do, and I couldn’t be more proud of the person you’ve become, especially in the last year. You inspire me every day.
I could go on with this sappy shit for hours, telling you how much you mean to me, but I’ll just cut myself off here, and say it very simply.

A good friend knows all your stories; a best friend helps you write them. My dear, darling Sissy, I love you more than I could possibly ever say. You have been my person from the day we met. We truly had a “did we just become best friends?” moment. You’ve always been more than just a good friend. You’re my chosen sister, my partner-in-crime, my ride-or-die, my confidante, my adventure companion, and my biggest inspiration. Every single one of my favorite stories includes you and I wouldn’t have it any other way. The universe worked our entire lives to bring us together and I’m so grateful we finally found each other. I am constantly in awe of how strong, loyal, loving, supportive, warm, and intelligent you are. Your kindness and compassion know no bounds. You are endlessly selfless and have the biggest heart. To the person who makes life so much more bright and shiny.
To my best friend, my sister from another mister, my person, my rock, my confidante, and my favorite travel partner. You’re the mac to my vegan cheese. The peanut butter to my jelly. The Makoto to my Usagi. This day is the best day of the year because I get to celebrate the wonderful person you are. You are endlessly kind, caring, selfless, supportive, hilarious, and fun. Life with you is an adventure. Some parts of the journey are a little rocky (like accidentally crossing the Canadian border without our passports) but our friendship always carries us through the tough spots. We laugh, we (ok, mostly me) cry, we pick each other back up again. My happiest memories in this lifetime are with you. From traveling all over the country for concerts to getting prime Dunks, every moment with you is a gift. I can’t believe we did so much cool shit this year and I can’t wait to see what next year holds for us…fuel is pumping engines? I love you to Jupiter and back. To My Best Friend On Your Birthday:

In about two weeks it will be ten years since we met. In those 10 years, we have been through so much. Good, bad, happy, sad. We’ve laughed, we’ve cried, we’ve had fights, we’ve made up. But through all of that my love for you has never wavered.
You are more than my best friend. You are my sister. My partner in crime. My confidant. My platonic soul mate. My person. The Universe truly blessed me the day you got sent to fill in at Martin’s Pharmacy #6402.
We have been to so many amazing places together. Your sense of adventure rivals my own, and I’m a Sagittarius, that’s pretty impressive. Last year for your birthday, we went to California. It was my first time. Since then, we’ve been three more times. This year, we’ll be scratching off a few new places from our list. Buffalo for you, Ohio and Green Bay for me. Saratoga Springs for us both. I cannot wait.
Today, and honestly every single day, I want you to know how special you are. Not just to me, but to so many people whose lives you touch daily. You are a shining light in this dark world. You are smart, funny, caring, loving, and above all else, beautiful inside and out. You’re an inspiration to me every day.
