May 4, 2021 Yellow-rumped Warbler (Setophaga coronate). I was walking in Courtcliffe Park today, where I photographed this Yellow-rumped Warbler. In the East they used to be called Myrtle Warblers and in the West they were called Audubon Warblers. This is a Myrtle Warbler because it has a white throat. The Audubon Warbler has a yellow throat. When it was discovered that the Myrtle and Audubon Warblers were the same species, they were renamed Yellow-rumped Warblers because they indeed have yellow rumps.
Scripture for the day: He was in the world, and the world was made through Him, and the world did not know Him. He came to His own, and His own did not receive Him, but as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name (John 1:10-12). by @pinebrook917

Ring-billed Gull (Larus delawarensis). Some people may have recollections of Ring-billed Gulls in the parking lot of a Kentucky Fried Chicken franchise. How surprised they might be to realize that indeed Gulls still eat fish and dalso clean up dead meat that otherwise would start to smell. They are scavengers. Here is a picture I took earlier this month of a Ring-billed Gull at the mouth of Grindstone Creek near the border of Hamilton and Burlington, Ontario.
Scripture for the day: Jesus answered and said to them: “Those who are well have no need of a physician, but those who are sick. I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance” (Luke 5:31-32). #ontario #gull #ringbilledgull #scavanger #burlington by @pinebrook917

Killdeer (Charadrius vociferous). I photographed this Killdeer earlier this month on the mudflat of Grindstone Creek, just before the creek enters Hamilton Harbour. The Killdeer had just finished washing and bathing itself in the creek. You can see some of the orange or rusty tail feathers which are usually hidden unless the bird is flying or performing an injured wing display to lure predators away from its nest. In German this bird is called the Keilschwanzregenpfeifer which means the wedge-tail-rain-peeper. In English it is called a Killdeer because its call, often heard when it is flying is “kill-deah.”
Scripture for the day: It is written: “You shall worship the LORD your God, and Him only you shall serve” (Luke 4:8 ). #killdeer #killdeerbird #ontario #nature # #burlington #nature #birds #blackandorange by @pinebrook917

Mute Swans (Cygnus olor). I took this picture last week in Hamilton, Ontario. There were over 30 Swans in Hamilton Harbour near the Valley Inn Bridge where the Grindstone Creek flows into the Harbour. Most of the Swans were Mute Swans. I only noticed two Trumpeter Swans. I drove over to LaSalle Park a short time later and at LaSalle Park there were also two Mute Swans.
Scripture for the day: The voice of one crying in the wilderniess: “Prepare the way of the LORD; make His paths straight. Every valley shall be filled and every mountain and hill brought low; the crooked places shall be made straight and the rough ways smooth” (Luke 3:4-5).

October 4, 2020. Great Spangled Fritillary Butterfly (Speyeria cybele). Yesterday Cornelia and I were hiking near the Ox Narrows by Highway 35 beside Kushog Lake where I photographed this Great Spangled Fritillary. Sadly, adults only live for about a month or a month and a half. Caterpillars eat only at night and sleep during the day.
Scripture for the day: Behold, this Child is destined for the fall and rising of many in Israel, and for a sign which will be spoken against (yes, a sword will pierce your own soul also), that the thoughts of many hearts may be revealed (Luke 2:34-35). #butterfly #fritterly #ontario #kushoglake🇨🇦 #nature by @pinebrook917

Eastern Bluebird (Sialia sialis). Last week there were a few Eastern Bluebirds in Courtcliffe Park near Carlisle, Ontario. Here is a picture of one sitting on a sign. Although migratory, we had a number stay around last winter. In the middle of December, despite the cold and snow a group of Bluebirds frequented a cemetery in Burlington.
Scripture for the day: There was in the days of Herod, the king of Judea, a certain priest named Zacharias, of the division of Abijah. His wife was of the daughters of Aaron, and her name was Elizabeth. And they were both righteous before God, walking in all the commandments and ordinances of the Lord blameless (Luke 1:5-6). by @pinebrook917

Great Horned Owl (Bubo virginianus). Yesterday I photographed these baby Horned Owls in Stoney Creek. I was made aware of the nest by Greg Schachtschneider. He is an excellent wildlife photographer. In some localities, Horned Owls will already start nesting in February when the snow is still lying deep in the woods. By the time the leaves of spring are on the trees, the young ones are already out of the nest.
Scripture for the day: Whoever finds their life will lose it, and whoever loses their life for my sake will find it. Anyone who welcomes you welcomes me, and anyone who welcomes me welcomes the one who sent me (Matthew 10:39-40 NIV).

February 24, 2020. Roadrunner (Geococyx californianus). Earlier this month I was in Cathedral City, California, USA, where I was able to photograph this Roadrunner. There were two of them in close proximity on the lawn near a Golf Club Restaurant.
Scripture for the day: Which of you by worrying can add one cubit to his stature? So why do you worry about clothing? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow: they neither toil nor spin; and yet I say to you that even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these (Matthew 6:27–29). #roadrunner #ornithologyphotography #birds #california #cathedralcity #range by @pinebrook917

Bobcat (Lynx rufus) Last month, walking along the Marsh Trail in the Big Morongo Preserve, north of Palm Springs in California, USA, I spied this Bobcat in a tree, as you can see, looking down at me, and it was free, just to be, up in that tree, away from me. It was the first time I saw a Bobcat in the wild. A highlight!
Scripture for the day: Judge not, that you be not judged. For with what judgment you judge, you will be judged; and with the measure you use, it will be measured back to you (Matthew 7:1–2). #california #bobcat #bigmorongocanyonpreserve #nature by @pinebrook917
