Brought home double the gold (literally) 🏆

Our Vertical Series Bourbon 10 Year and our 2026 Cask Strength Bourbon both took home Double Gold at the San Francisco World Spirits Competition this year. On top of that, the VB10 is also a finalist for Best in Class.

Bourbon owes a lot to the barrel. And the barrel owes a lot to American white oak.

Its unique cellular structure makes it naturally watertight, while compounds within the wood help build the vanilla, woody, toasted, caramelized and structured notes we associate with bourbon.

Then there’s the char. Bourbon must be aged in new, charred oak, and when American white oak meets heat, its chemistry transforms, creating even more for the whiskey to pull from as it moves in and out of the wood over time.

American white oak isn’t legally required for bourbon, but there’s a reason it became the go-to. It’s remarkably good at the job. by @pinhook_bourbon

11 years in the barrel does more than pass time. 🐎

Whiskey pulls its character straight from the oak: vanillin breaking down for sweetness, sugars caramelizing under the char for depth, tannins softening the whole thing out. The longer it sits, the more the wood gives up.

Vertical Series Bourbon 11 Year pulled from just 62 barrels, evaluated the way we evaluate everything: structure first. Complexity, balance, integration, texture, and finish. The notes don’t get engineered in, they get discovered once the structure holds.

This year, that structure revealed itself as burnt orange peel, molasses, white pepper, and cedar on the nose. Ripe strawberry, crème brûlée, toasted almond, and candied cinnamon on the palate. by @pinhook_bourbon

The result was an incredible 3-barrel blend from the same mature barrels used in this year's vintage of our Kentucky Straight Bourbon. Available at their East Hampton, Soho, Malibu, and Montecito locations.

A love letter to Lexington, KY 💌

We wouldn't want to spend our time hand-dipping our whiskey anywhere other than in the Horse Capital of the World.

There's no shortcut for this part. Every bottle gets its wax and from real hands, in real time, in a place that's shaped us as much as our whiskey has. by @pinhook_bourbon

The Big Horse isn't simply our biggest horse. It's our best one.

In thoroughbred racing, that's the term for your top horse, not your largest. We borrowed it for a reason.

Every year our Master Blender @theseanjosephs tastes through every barrel from our Vertical Series in our Single Barrel Program and picks one barrel of bourbon and rye that really jumps out to him as unique and compelling. That single barrel becomes the Big Horse.

Our Vertical Series Bourbon 10 Year just took double gold at the @sfwspiritscomp, and our current Big Horse Bourbon is a single barrel pick from that same lot. Felt like a good excuse to put it next to Big Horse Rye 10 Year and see how they compare, available to bundle on our website.
