After a well-received June run at The Gym at @judsonchurchnyc, The Table is returning for a full remount from January 17 to 31, 2027, this time as part of @utrfest!

The Table follows a woman chasing finish lines that keep pulling out of reach, discarding the ordinary tools of living as she goes. Built and dismantled across the space of 50 minutes, the show lives inside the question: what is enough?

The Table is co-created by @teo.meiann and @erkachong, with choreography by Erika. Our returning performers are @ramimargron @chingvaldes @shihuiy @mauranguyendonohue @hsiangru.yu. The creative team includes set and costume design by @peiyiamelia, lighting design by Tuçe Yasak, projection design by @haobai523, sound design by @justinhicksmusic, and dramaturgy by @tomi.tsunoda.

In its first run, reviewers called The Table “an experiment in testing the limits of endurance and desire” (@thinkingdance) and “fearless, vulnerable, [grounded] in humanity” (@culturebot).

The 2027 edition of Under the Radar runs more than 25 productions across New York City in January. Tickets are on sale now, with early bird pricing $10 off through November 9 (code: EARLYBIRD27). Don’t miss this chance to return to The Table.

This week marks one year since Ping Chong and Company became Pink Fang.

The past year has held two world premieres, 500+ students reached across 23 classrooms in 9 NYC public schools, and new partnerships taking shape for the year ahead.

🍃 Memory Generation (@sarazed_nyc + Sherrine Azab) sold out all 8 performances at @lamamaetc—a memory cafe-style work on caregiving and memory loss built from community interviews.

🍚 The Table (@teo.meiann + @erkachong) closed a 10-show run at @judsonchurchnyc. Playwright @chayyew called it "gorgeous, haunting and profound."

We also presented the Ping Chong Archival Symposium at @huntercollege, and continued to grow our Creative Aging programs in Queens and Secret Histories education program in multiple languages, including English, Spanish, and Mandarin.

None of this happens without your support. As we close out our first fiscal year, help us keep this work going. Link in bio to donate: pinkfang.org/support

As a thank you, everyone who donates $50 or more by June 30 will receive our newest merch, a hot Pink Fang bandana!

Introducing #MeetPinkFang, a new series spotlighting the people behind Pink Fang’s work. First up is @teo.meiann!

Mei Ann is our Artistic Director, New Work, now in their fourth year with Pink Fang. What they love most about the job is making art with the team and multihyphenate artists, plus enjoying staff potlucks and dim sum with Ping Chong!

Two projects have stayed with them over the years. Undesirable Elements: Ukraine (2023) opened up new understanding of the war through the life experiences of Pink Fang’s East Village neighbors, and returning to Lazarus 1972-2022 as a foundational text while co-creating The Table pushed them to take more risks and find new possibilities for image as story.

Right now, Mei Ann is looking ahead to The Table’s remount at @utrfest in January, with development work underway alongside @boids.gif and @sugarvendil.

Outside of Pink Fang, they are also directing Josep Maria Miró’s The Nicest Body Ever Seen Around These Parts at @playcompany with Rachel Crowl, opening this week. They love international adventures and thrillseeking activities.

Stay tuned for more #MeetPinkFang features to come as we introduce you to the rest of the Pink Fang team!

Today is Ping Chong’s 80th birthday.

Ping was born in Toronto, Canada in 1946, moving to New York City with his family a few months later. Raised in Chinatown, he made his first independent theater production, Lazarus, in 1972 at the age of 26. He formed Fiji Theater Company, later known as Ping Chong and Company, in 1975.

During the next five decades, Ping created more than 100 multidisciplinary productions, exploring the collisions and connections of history, culture, art, and technology in our increasingly globalised world. His productions have traversed stories and histories from New York to Alaska, from Japan to the Democratic Republic of the Congo, and even to outer space. In 2014, President @barackobama presented him with the National Medal of Arts.

Today Pink Fang celebrates Ping’s ethos of boundary breaking and artistic innovation, stewards his legacy, and continues his directive, adapted from E. M. Forster, to “only connect.” Every artistic and educational project we take on, we’re asking the same questions he began asking in the 1970s: who gets to tell their story, who gets heard, and how.

Please join us in wishing Ping a very happy 80th!

Applications are open for Radical Scenic and Media Design, a one-day workshop with Pink Fang’s Founder and Artistic Director Emeritus Ping Chong, presented with @huntercollege’s Department of Theatre!

Designer-directors—makers, devisers, and directors who center design in their work—are warmly invited to spend a day with Ping discussing his methodologies, exploring the possibilities of scenic and projection design, building a concept presentation, and responding to each other’s ideas and perspectives. This opportunity is open to designer-directors at all career stages, and we look forward to hosting a diverse cohort of 15 artists at this session.

The workshop will take place on November 7, 2026 from 1 to 5 PM at Hunter College. Applications are open until October 14. Link in bio to learn more!

Pink Fang is partnering with @mandalatheatre and the Civil Peace Service Nepal this fall on a new documentary theatre workshop in Bardiya, Nepal. Led by Pink Fang Education Manager @kimchaesong, twenty participants, including theatre artists from Kathmandu and community members and activists from across Nepal, will spend two weeks building a site-responsive performance from @kumbharadda Displaced People’s Memorial Park’s archive of memory objects.

Chaesong will work with participants using Pink Fang’s #UndesirableElements documentary theatre practices and other methods in week one, then collaborate with participants to generate a final performance rooted in their lived experiences in week two. This project connects the three pillars of our mission—community-based processes, education, and new work creation—to ask, “How can theater help us encounter histories of enforced disappearances?”

The final performance is on October 8 at Kumbhar Adda Memorial Park. Link in bio to learn more about our first international partnership as Pink Fang!

In a new interview with @beingpatientvoices, co-creators @sarazed_nyc and @sherrinea sit down with Mark Niu for a conversation about making #PinkFang’s production, Memory Generation.

Sara and Sherrine talk about staging Memory Generation inside a memory cafe, and why they wanted the audience seated at cafe tables with the action moving around them. They discuss working with performers who have their own caregiving histories, and why that mattered more to them than performance experience alone. They also get into the questions of consent that shaped whose stories made it into the script, including Sara’s decision to include recorded conversations with her father. Finally, don’t miss a preview of what’s next for Memory Generation, including plans to remount the piece in Detroit in 2027 with new interviews woven in!

Watch the full interview at the link in bio. Thank you for hosting us, Being Patient!

Passages Alaska is a 9-week, 9th grade social studies unit rooted in our production ALAXSXA | ALASKA, created with the Lower Kuskokwim School District and now available nationwide.

Hidden Voices Cultural Connections: AAPI Experience & Documentary Theater is a 9-lesson unit for middle school theater teachers, developed for @nycschools, exploring AAPI history and identity.

Generation Y-O-U Educator Toolkit, with @newvictorytheater, is a full curriculum for 6th-12th grade educators, with activities for live and virtual classrooms.

Undesirable Elements: Generation NYZ Resource Site, also with the New Victory Theater, extends our 2018 production Generation NYZ for educators and students.

Generation Rise School Tool, created by the New Victory Theater for Pink Fang’s Generation Rise virtual theater work, is a resource guide highlighting social events in 2020 like Black Lives Matter and the global pandemic, centering Black and POC teens.

This school year, students across NYC public schools worked with Pink Fang Teaching Artists on creating original performance projects from their personal stories, based in our Undesirable Elements documentary theater framework. PS102Q in Queens, M565 Urban Academy in Manhattan, and PS84 in Manhattan were among the 11 schools that built their own pieces from the ground up, developing the material through 10 weeks of collaborative work in the classroom. Swipe to hear directly from students about what the process meant to them!

If you’re an educator or administrator interested in bringing #PinkFang into your school, visit the link in bio to learn more about our #ArtsInEducation programming.

We’re excited to begin community interviews this week for Stories of Orange, a new production in the Undesirable Elements series, in collaboration with @luna.stage! Building on four Community Story Circles held last spring, these interviews will form the basis of a script that will reflect community members’ perspectives of what it means to live, work, study, play, and call Orange, New Jersey home.

Performers will be invited into the ensemble from this interview process to tell their stories in the production, which will premiere in community spaces around Orange this fall. Stay tuned for more information as the piece develops!

#TBT to the Ping Chong Archival Symposium, a full-day gathering held on December 6, 2025 at @huntercollege’s Ida K. Lang Recital Hall. The symposium brought together artists, scholars, students, and the public for panels, conversation, and artistic activations centered on the archive and work of #PingChong, Pink Fang’s Artistic Director Emeritus.

The event was part of a semester-long partnership between Pink Fang and the Hunter College Theatre Department, which included a co-taught course, class visits, an Artist Lunch with Ping Chong, a theater workshop, and public screenings of Chong’s archival works with talk-backs. Here’s a look back at how it went.
