It’s taken me months to sort out the title of this painting.

So last night after an interview…i decided to sit before it and simply breathe.

The poem was written before the title.. when i heard the title in my heart i understood.

Grace After the Ruin

Sometimes
after the world comes apart
we learn a different way
to walk inside it

I stand in the doorway
of this ordinary day
my voice softer now
one small clear vow
to meet what comes

I lay my grief down
in the studio
where canvases wait
and lean in the light
a narrow altar
on the window sill
where the day
comes in

It is not that sorrow
has gone
it moves through me
like water through stone
slowly
making a hollow
for a quiet
stubborn strength

And still I stand
at the edge of the day
holding this
small
unbreaking light

There are moments in our lives that will live in our memories forever.

Moments so beautiful that even time cannot diminish them.

I am reminded of the words of Elizabeth Barrett Browning:

“How do I love thee? Let me count the ways.”

And oh, how many ways there are to love.

In the laughter, the tears, the tender embraces, and the faces of those we hold so dear.

Some days, life gives us a memory we know we will carry for the rest of our lives.

This was one of those days.

I am so grateful for my husband, my children and my family and my dear friends.

So grateful to have shared the beautiful wedding day of our beautiful daughter Megan with her beloved husband Brandon…

There are not enough words in the universe to express my gratitude.

Thank you from my soul.

As Promised a New Print released
For October (watermark will be removed)

Luna
16x20
Archival Paper
Limited Giclee
(Edition of 50)
249.00

LUNA

I painted her during the eclipse.

Her eyes are closed. She is deep in thought, meeting the darkness without fear.
The shadow does not take her light. It reminds her of the strength she carries, even when she cannot see the way ahead.

I think every woman knows this journey: going inward, finding herself there, and coming back stronger.

Luna is for the woman who has walked through darkness and knows she is still here.

If she speaks to you, message me today to make her yours.

Have a blessed evening

I speak through my art
when my words have been buried.

I was thinking about this painting today.

Last August, I spent two days scraping away layers of paint, trying to uncover the face I had buried beneath them. My hand was so sore. I remember wondering why I was putting myself through that much pain.

Today, between tests at the hospital, I opened my journal and began to write about how I felt reading about the Cornell case.

I couldn’t stop thinking of her, the woman in the dorm. And then I thought of this painting. I had buried her face beneath layer after layer of paint. For two days, I scraped until she emerged.

I don’t know why I covered her. I only know that when I heard about this woman, I saw the painting differently. I thought of her beneath those layers, waiting to be seen, and of how easily a woman’s story can be covered over, softened, made to disappear.

The case and the painting rattled my brain while I tried to process everything my own life is holding. As a mother who has lost her son, I know what it is to lose a piece of yourself. I wanted to hold her in my thoughts, too.

I had changed the painting’s title so many times. Today, I knew what it had been waiting for:

No More

The media soften the words for what happened. Our algorithms can make the word disappear.

But not her face.
Not what happened to her.
Not what must never happen again.

I dedicate this painting to her.

No More speaks for all women.

For the winter season, Camelot will close its doors and open instead by invitation, on Saturdays, by appointment.

I am stepping away for the next month to prepare for our daughter’s upcoming wedding, and to give my family the care this season asks of us. So less posting.

I am spending every day with my man, Joseph, as he faces cancer.
(F U C K C A N C E R)

Joseph has told me he may take up the brush beside me. Either way, he will stand at my side while I paint, in Camelot, in the hours between his battles at Marotta Family Hospital and Princess Margaret.

I love when he reads on the couch while I paint… it’s the best time ever. We pack a lunch and spend the entire day in our little sanctuary, Camelot.

We are grateful beyond words for the care he is receiving. Canada has not failed us.

This winter, I give myself fully, to prayer, to quiet days with the man I love and the family I would do anything for. And hopefully some time for creating art.

It is that simple.
And it is everything.

Please keep us in your prayers. They are working.

We are so grateful for the love and support of our dear family and friends. We appreciate every prayer and all your thoughtful messages!

We love you all.

Ok how did this happen?! SOLD

Two days of darkness.

Two days of silence,
though silence is never empty. There was so
much noise in my head

Even the silence has
small sounds
the floor settling
the light humming
My body breathing

There was screaming
There was crying
There was music
And then there was nothing
but the long
patient silence

I kept reading poetry
as if a poem might know
how to carry me
through the dark

It only made me cry harder
Perhaps that’s a good thing

There wasn’t an ounce of celebration in me

I sat in my studio for six hours.

I looked at the paintings.
They looked back.

Then I listened.

I heard the room.
I heard the brush in the jar.
I heard my familiar breathing

I finished this tiny
piece in the middle of it all
The winemaker.
I stopped questioning
I’m
Not even sure when I held the brush.

And beneath it all
small and stubborn

I heard my heart

Not joyful
Not healed

Only alive

At the end of the night
He brought me gentle laughter

I do not know where it
came from
he was sad too

We both let it stay

Frida
Esta Noche
50x40 inches
Oil on canvas
Original
Framed

In this painting I’m in conversation with Frida Kahlo.
I’m holding my own work
but I’m also holding her:
her courage
her stubborn beauty
her refusal to turn away from herself.

Her eyes became the centre of everything for me: the soul of this piece
watchful
piercing
unwilling to pretend.

When you stand in front of Frida, it can feel as if she’s following you, asking a question you can’t quite name.

For me, it’s a dialogue between past and present, muse and maker.

In painting Frida
I’m also painting myself
my passion
my wounds
my strength…

People who live with my work often tell me their home feels protected…as if the painting is quietly standing watch while life unfolds.

If you feel something in you when you look at Frida, message me and we’ll talk about how she might belong in your home.

If you’d like to see her in person and feel the energy of the work, message me for a private tour of Camelot.
