Visually, we explored a subject’s senses with sedated marches of the camera intercut with bursts of erratic and explosive movements. Our perspective is dictated by the subject’s emotions and a reaction to their movements. We wanted to momentarily pull the audience to traverse the subject’s mind. EOHO - a brief odyssey into senses. White Lotus season 3 ep. 3 : my favorite episode so far for personal reasons.

1. Had a rare opportunity to jump into Ben’s huge shoes and DP the main unit for a couple of days. What a thrill it was. Glad to have been studying under the maestro for 6 months by then and having @liamsinnott @thorxlavega and @powerhead_overline by my side got me through it. @itsparkerposey in bed waking up after her dreams. Technocrane on the stage here.
2. Looking at @therealjasonisaacs shooting out the door. In the stages, had to fake rain with night INT/EXT, lights out with studio backings on my first day. Barely survived this setup😮‍💨
3. Bobby our AD with another cameo- the resort basically shot itself with so much beautiful sceneries. His swim trunks was the MVP.
4. Favorite animal shot of the show so far. Found this window that geckos congregate every sunset to eat all the bugs. Anyone who’s been to Thailand know these creatures and we got them (in 3s, just like the Ratliff kids) fighting (or harassing?). Originally this shot racks to the sunset on the hill but John Valerio found a blend transition to the Tim shower sequence.
5. A bit cliché to film monks to Thailand but we found a unique angle to get them. Grips set 2 runways for them with parallels so we can shoot up at the sun.
6. Iguana was a star. Always looking for broken up front light & this was the perfect situation.
7. Believe it or not this was no CG. @aimeelouwood was safe but some poor fake legs got snek’d.
8. Beach fire boys. They had a routine going and we shot some in step printing and slow mo. This was the perfect shot and was in the trailer too.
9-10 first shots as 2nd unit DP when I was just running around with the camera. We had a tiny piece of light left because we had to haul a bunch of equipment ourselves but it went a long way and turned out way better than what I imagined.

It was a childhood dream of mine to shoot a movie in Hollywood and with Panavision glass. To be able to have done one finally along side this fine grip electric and camera crew has been a blessing throughout the process. Much love and respect to @type418lighting @dansethgreen and @connorlambert.ac who supported and collaborated with me these past months. Wrap wrap wrap. Ready for the next one! by @pithai_dp

Link in Bio. This is still one of my favorite projects I’ve ever worked on. @petetaifa exercising his directing chops early on with this truly personal short film. The story is intimate and poignant, with the director’s real family members as the cast.

1. Grandpa collecting old photos from the attic. We waited at the right time of day to shoot this because we had no money to light and the house itself is already so cinematic. There was no need for coverage, he was very good with acting through his body language; we just let him walk through our set.
2. Shot this in one take as the family had never acted before. We set the scene behind our camera and let them react to that. It felt very real and no amount of camera work could have brought this moment out. I do enjoy fitting as many people into a frame as possible. The reverse shot we never cut to until the finale of the film.
3. I remember this setup very well. Love hard light broken up through all the windows and the air. We also just let the scene play out. I remember wanting to make it feel likea hot morning and there was something uncomfortable being unsaid.
4. Pete was good at setting up foreground background blocking and I remember we enjoyed how this one played out. The maid in the front was ironing. There was another maid off screen yelling asking questions and the scene was simple but complicated. The location was as real as the family was.
5. Another chance for some hard light. Might have been a 4k or some mirrors outside. We loved the green blinds in the back.
6. Also a big scene and letting the action played out. Wish I was able to crush down the candles with more light to the faces but we didn’t want to start lighting huge with a scene so intimate.
7. Sa-Ad Peamponsanta was an esteemed actor and one that much of Thailand treasured. He unfortunately passed away but before had bothered enough to come act in possibly his last role with some kids shooting a short film. I hope he liked what we did.

White Lotus season 3 ep. 8- realized that I’m so late to post these last episodes. But wanna make sure this was up somewhere. Incredibly proud of this work and forever grateful for the people who trusted me to get a shot at being a part of this show. Can’t wait to work with them all again.

1. John Valerio wanted this POV of the monks looking at the surface of the water. We could have built a huge plexi to shoot through but ended up with the grip’s 4x4 mirror and a few artful bottles of water.
2. A view of the resort mosquito smokers that was inspired by the resort’s actual way of smoking out these mosquitos. Looked really ominous and a joy to scout and shoot.
3. Almost a post card of monks doing their morning walks but I was actually a monk for a few weeks (Thai men’s Rite of Passage) and we did exactly this. No shoes!
4. This now famous monkey was a wild monkey on a hill we scouted. As aggressive as it looked he was definitely just yawning and probably bored at me and @armandoavallone SOC staring at him for an hour waiting for something to happen.
5. Biggest lighting setup for this show’s 2nd unit. The sun never came out during this last day on location. We put an M90 on a tall stand and put it behind a branch and hopefully no one sees it’s a light. Some maxi brutes helped the background on those trees.
6. Got the honor to shoot the very last shot of the season. We scouted forever and found this angle for Belinda’s glorious exit at the last light. @natasharothwell
7. Got to shoot one scene with @waltongogginsbonafide . What an intense morning we had and I hope we helped him bring out the Rick inside him.

White Lotus season 3 ep. 7

1. @jongries on a pick up shot. We like to find practical lights to help motivate lighting. In this case these lanterns were perfect to complement our astera tube.
2. @lalalalisa_m at blue hour. We lit in the afternoon knowing we’d have very little time to shoot and it turned out well! Tubes hiding making greenish fluorescent and warm light inside Mook’s house. The bonus chicken 🐓.
3. On the reverse of @taymettt we were on a crunch timeline but couldn’t use the real background so we set up two sets of track so that we can move to each ones quickly within the 10 minute window during our blue hour.
4. Prelit this for main unit. Hiding tubes in many places and little Nyx bulbs in small spaces that we learned how to do on the Creator. There’s also a condor up high left of frame doing a little bit of blue push into the ground and some scraping the tree line.
5. @carriecoon running away from a funny situation. Ben guided me through lighting this alleyway doing a bit of hopscotching with main unit to make the day.
6. The weird green of this squid boat is ugly but iconic for Thai seascapes. Worked well against this orange sunset skies.
7. Found this frame as cam op for main unit. We had two good wide shots already but found this angle in the cast’s green room. The train in the back came out during the take and that “sun” was the maxibrute we set across the street.
8. Found this view of Bangkok on one of our GV days. Best wide shot I’ve ever found in Bangkok that showcases how chaotically beautiful this city is.

White Lotus season 3 ep. 6: thanks for reading so far. 6 episodes down 2 to go!

1. Shot this scene for main unit. Gaffer @thorxlavega KG @powerhead_overline and 1st AC @liamsinnott cushioned me into the main unit nicely. Very proud of the work we did on these few scenes. Stage work trying to make sure @benkutchins look is protected and keeping a good pace. Still think about this day a lot!
2. Puffer fish washed up ashore and a few crew members spotted it. I saw some folks taking photos and Deo brought the camera over for a quick insert. Not a typical white lotus insert from season 1-2 but really want to shoot some dark subjects for this season. Death came knocking!
3. Another main unit shot this time night interior on the same stage as #1 @hougs changed it up quick on the DMX and I got to sweat less about doing a lights out night look.
4. Tuktuk with a special naughty message.
5. Shooting the temple concurrently with main unit. We hid in the bush while main shot the wide on this. The monk extras were sent up the steps in the wide and we caught them here. Glad they picked this focus for the show.
6. Insert of a flower on stage. Lit this on the next set from main and I really like making DAY INT sun kinda messy especially when we can control it.
7. The giant buddha statue we shot from a boat. This wasn’t a particularly grand angle for the statue but I did love imposing old Bangkok textures all in the same frame.
8. @christianfreidel doing his thing. I saw Zone of Interest while working on this not knowing that I’ve been working with him for a few weeks. Amazing actor.
9. Victoria’s night look with @itsparkerposey . I saw and love Party Girl and was stoked to have one chance to film her in a few scenes.

White Lotus season 3 ep. 5 : been on a fun memory lane to remember the shoot with these posts. Hope you enjoy them! The season is heating up now so hurry up if you’re slacking behind.

1. While main unit shot Rick and Frank saying good night, 2nd unit spent the evening at Bangkok’s Chinatown. We did some follow shots of Rick’s taxi as he entered Bangkok. We wanted the lights of Bangkok to surround Rick in contrast to the jungle that surrounded him earlier. Traffic was crazy here if you’ve been there and it took us a couple of tries to not get cut off by a Tuktuk.
2. Another moment walking around with @deaw12 getting these shots. We didn’t want to cause a disturbance on the street so we traveled light and all the gear were in backpacks. Down the street some wedding photographers basically walked onto the intersection and had many assistants holding a bunch of strobes. We got upstaged. Plane plates shot separately.
3. One of Ben’s visuals was he wanted the resort to continually be swallowed by nature. We were always aware of this mission and the drone captured this perfectly.
4. We shot some tennis court stuff during the day time as very basic B roll. On my way home I thought there was a hill that might overlook this and we found one shot here. Brought the team back the next night to shoot it. It also fits the nature swallowing the hotel theme.
5. The yacht as they go towards the full moon party. Hopefully the theme is seen throughout as we kept the yacht tiny and let the rest of the landscape do the work.
6. Set up a small portion of the beach to get more inserts for the full moon party. Not that many extras and on the day we found SFX didn’t have a way to reset the flames. So we just did a take that lasted 10 minutes and we encouraged sober BGs to party as hard as they could.
7. One of my cam op shots. Got sent into the ocean to wait and capture this. The water was so rough I had a hard time just staying afloat with the splash bag. Got a cramp but kept as still as I could. Couldn’t really see the monitor by then and with a stroke of luck managed to keep Lochlan in frame.

White Lotus season 3 ep. 4
1. Spent days with or drone crew chasing around the @yachtspacecat while main unit shoots the yacht scenes. @tenztudio pilots our drone on top of our drone boat with a little landing spot on the roof. We spent most of our time up in the air in terrible light and it paid off because we knew so well the landscapes and when light dips into this magic for a few minutes we were always right there.
2. Another one where we go for a more telephoto look and chasing foreground/ background limestones and beautiful islands.
3. Wide shot of Songkran. Perfect example of working with @benkutchins and him always pushing us to find the absolute best shot with what we are working with. I climbed stairs of 6-7 buildings until we are able to find this great spot that gave us the scale and unique textures of the festival.
4. Sanctuary slider shot. We often would out a slider down and rig the camera directly onto wedges to get as low as we could without doing a lambda setup.
5. Spent a day just with bunches of monkey statues from art department. After main unit is done with a location we always swoop in for a day with some inserts that would play well in the scenes.
6. Someone’s gotta shoot these CCTV cameras stuff. We kept these up and shot many different mundane locations of the hotels. I think we ended up with upwards of 100 angles. Shot 3 at a time with Fujixt5 and Sony a7s and fx6.
7. Morning splinter unit with Ben and Mike. Jason Isaac getting his shower before the main shoot.
8. Sending the drones up early morning for sunrises and other shots we owed. Always in awe how these look.
9. The yacht docking into the lagoon. Particular scary since we didn’t have many takes of this. Main unit was coming back from their shoot and we had to do it just right so we dry rehearsed a lot before ending up here.
10. I just love the gold textures here. This was underneath some random shelf and I’m glad it made the show.

White Lotus season 3 ep. 2 - 2nd unit stills and little bts.

1. These monkey statues the art department put in were lit by the SFX dept torches. We ran small so it made more sense to do that than to bring our own lights.
2. One of my favorite breakfast scenes cutaways. Set up for something else but the reflection just came in nicely.
3. We set up small little scenes like this hammock setup all the time. Because we stayed at the hotel the crew always gives us suggestions of what to shoot.
4. Another breakfast shot that did through glasses. Lots of motif we did of out of focus foreground being the hotel and sharp background being nature.
5. This little guy almost didn’t make it in the film. We were packing up and spotted him on a branch, thankfully my 1st AC was quick @deaw12
6. We shot tons of these wellness scene setups.
7. Almost crazy that we were able to capture live cicadas. Anything that was nature was always on our list.
8. Sequence of staff sweeping the beach in the morning.
9. Monkey statue lit with a plastic bag that I’ve shared previously.
10. Couldn’t get enough of the sunrise and sunset during our shoot. Missing those days.

White Lotus season 3 ep.1 - some of the 2nd unit shots from the show.
1. View of the resort shot from one of the highest villas. We keep revisiting this during the shoot to get different time. John Valerio (2nd unit director) wanted this statue of the monkey to be overlooking the resort, much like the other animals always looking into this human jungle.
2. Spent a day in the pond capturing the lotus and water beads.
3. The drone @tenztudio and his team would spend lots of time indulging us by flying around to find some cool patterns from the air that could be cut into the show.
4. Monkey man who just flies up coconut trees to make them safe around the resort.
5. Monkey shots that have been in the show were done in a couple of days. Got @armandoavallone on the steadi to help capture these creatures. I take all credit for being the monkey interpreter.
6. Another shot of the pond getting lucky with a dragonfly.
7. Day on the boat- Mike White said he wanted these droplets of water from the boat engine like little souls that go up and down reincarnating like the Buddhist teachings.
8. Most of 2nd unit we went without a big crew - left of this frame was 10 crew from main unit that was spending time lighting a huge hill for main unit shot. They had 18k and maxis everywhere. We got a little spill that made sense for the shot.
9. Previous seasons had many hotel corridor creeps and we made our own ways of creeping into doors and on pathways.
