From forests to film festivals… the giants have travelled. 🦬🌍🏆

ZUBR: Here Be Giants has now won 4 festivals and premiered in 7 countries — Kenya, India, Mexico, Canada, Romania, Spain and the UK. A story about rewilding and the return of a keystone species has crossed borders, cultures and continents - connecting with audiences around the world in ways we never expected.

This moment belongs to the crew and collaborators who brought the film to life. The people behind the camera, the sound, the music, the story — and everyone who backed the project from the very beginning. It took belief, time and real determination to get this film finished.
And now, seeing it resonate on such a deep, emotional level globally… that’s something truly special. Here is the latest poster celebrating that journey.

This story is still growing.

Where in the world are you watching from — and what did the film make you feel?

An evening of giants 🦬

Join us for a special screening of ZUBR: Here Be Giants — my award-winning short documentary about the return of European bison to the UK and the people working to bring these extraordinary animals back to our landscapes.

Once roaming across Britain thousands of years ago, the European bison is now part of one of the most ambitious rewilding projects in the country. ZUBR: Here Be Giants follows Don, a dedicated bison ranger, and explores how these powerful animals are reshaping forests, restoring ecosystems, and changing the way we think about our relationship with the wild.

This is more than a film screening — it’s a chance to experience a story about hope, nature, and the future of rewilding in Britain.

📍 Wills Memorial Building – Room 3.31, Coutts Lecture Theatre
🗓 Monday 16th March
⏰ 7:00 PM

If you care about wildlife, storytelling, or the future of our landscapes, this is an event not to miss. Come along, bring a friend, and be part of the conversation about bringing giants back to the land.

Madagascar on Super 8 🎥

Thanks for tuning it to my mini series of film on film. Inspired by @supernaturefilm which is out now at the cinemas, I dug out my old archive of when I brought my camera across the world and I think we can all agree it brings a different flare of beauty to that of our digital cameras.

What country would you like to see next through the lens of my Super 8??? by @pitmanfilms

My first time shooting on super 8 📽️

Inspired to dig up the archive after watching @supernaturefilm

Watch now at your local cinema. This film is a huge revival to those that know and an introduction to those that don’t, of one of the most beautiful formats you can see a moving image.

Do you want to get started on Super 8?

📍 Indonesia and Madagascar.

Springwatch on film 🎞️

If you had asked me ten years ago if I thought I’d be on Springwatch I would have said, “I can only dream”.

I heard so many stories of what it was like to be behind the production and to live it was a memory I will carry forever. From picking up my partner in crime to be from Liverpool, then through Wales onto a ferry to Dublin before heading into the wild all within 20 hours was the first sign this would be a great adventure.

From then it was full of wonderful people, eager to share knowledge and kindness and a lot, a lot of laughing along the way.

This post is also to promote a short film I made called The Currency of Kindness, featuring Mary.

This is another small passion project after hearing about a character I saw potential in and ran with it. This was shot on the last day of Springwatch in Northern Ireland. Luckily I had a spare 6 hours between monitoring the live cameras allowing me to visit Mary and her animals.

Every year, hundreds of wild animals arrive on Mary’s doorstep injured, orphaned or close to death. For over forty years, she has dedicated her life to giving them another chance. The Currency of Kindness tells the story of a remarkable woman whose compassion, first nurtured in Zimbabwe and continued in rural Northern Ireland, reminds us that kindness is measured not by how many lives we save, but by our willingness to save the ones we can.

🐟Lion tastes good 😊

The Atlantic Bluefin Tuna aka cow of the sea, aka the ocean’s giants can swim up to 43 miles per hour and grow larger than a polar bear, weighing over half a ton.

Top marks to anyone who names the quote in the reel! #Tuna#bluefin#wildlife#sony by @pitmanfilms

If you had asked me ten years ago if I thought I’d be on Springwatch I would have said, “I can only dream”.

I heard so many stories how special this show was to work on and how so many of our best researchers and producers have gone through Springwatch.

One highlight as you can see, are the talent, Chris, Michaela and Hannah. I’ve never witnessed such skill in front of the camera. With a loose script they smash it every single time. If they stumble or make a questionable joke, they play it off and the show goes on, often making it even more charming. There is a reason it’s a national treasure.

Thanks to 1st Cam Op, Pat for kindly inviting me to the rehearsals when I wasn’t controlling the remote wildlife cams in my dark cupboard of an office on wheels!

One by one, they stepped out into the world for the very first time 🌿

After weeks hidden away inside the nest, these young great tits finally took the leap — trading the safety of home for the chaos of the garden beyond.

It’s always incredible filming moments like this. A few seconds of hesitation at the entrance… then instinct takes over.

After wrapping David Attenborough’s Secret Garden and heading off to join the team on Springwatch in Ireland, I’ve never felt more inspired to keep telling wildlife stories close to home.

Amazing what can exist in an ordinary garden.

After 7 hours of waiting, these young great tits finally took their first leap into the wild. A euphoric, emotional moment knowing from here on, survival is entirely up to them.

Safe to say… it paid off 🌿

🇮🇪 A quiet moment from a remarkable place 🌿

One week into Springwatch and I’m completely blown away by the beauty of Ireland.

This week I escaped into the hills to hike the famous Stairway to Heaven — a boardwalk winding through the wild blanket bogs of County Fermanagh, built to protect this incredible landscape from erosion.
