What a beautiful day to celebrate the first Save Station @savestation.ca placed in Pittsburgh! For those of you that don't know, a Save Station is an outdoor climate controlled AED box that is accessible to the public. That means we all have 24/7 access to the AED in case of a cardiac arrest nearby!!

Located at Frankie Pace Park, the Save Station and Zoll AED @zollmedical were donated to honor the legacy of Pittsburgh's Freedom House Ambulance Service. You can see it's exact location on the @pulsepointapp NEARS app or stop by and see it in person!

During SCA Awareness Month, we’re helping more people recognize cardiac arrest, call 911, start CPR, and use an AED.

Because when someone’s heart stops, you don’t have to be a healthcare professional to help save a life.

You just have to BE READY to step in. ⚡️

If someone collapsed in front of you, would you know what to do? In our study out yesterday we looked at out-of-hospital cardiac arrest (OHCA) and Hands-Only CPR on scripted TV.

A positive: Hands-Only CPR was shown more often on TV than real life (58% vs 48%). This could inspire people to act!

A not-so-positive: Only 30% of depictions followed the correct steps with many showing outdated practices such as checking for a pulse or performing breaths. TV also misrepresented where OHCA often occurs (in real life 80% happen at home) and showed younger, whiter, and more male characters.

This research highlights an opportunity for public health and the entertainment industry to work together to save lives! Link in stories to the article and a piece I wrote for @theconversationdotcom about the research!

Proud mentor moment! I am beyond thrilled to share @orefawole’s first, first author manuscript! Ore began working with me in March 2023 as a freshman @pittofficial, quickly showing a remarkable aptitude for research and superb leadership and organizational skills. Her dual degrees in natural sciences and film give her a unique insight into this type of research. She will be starting at @pittmedicine in the Fall, and I’m so excited to see all that she will do!

A big THANK YOU to our volunteers and community members who supported us during the @suddencardiacarrestfoundation 's 1st annual training week! We could not have done an event this big or successful without you all 🫶

We trained a total of 60 community members and gave out 20 AHA CPR Anytime kits (gifts from @ahapennsylvania )

Keep up the good work spreading knowledge of bystander CPR everyone!
