Happy international dance day ✨Slide 1 : Dancing to embrace my African culture .( clip of @afj_cardiff ‘s ITV feature In 2022 ).My African culture, including traditions, music and dance, is central to who I am as a person and through my upbringing, I’ve remained connected to my heritage. Something I always emphasise with any type of African dance is that, behind every move/step, there’s a story, there’s history and so expresses identity…What made me fall in love with teaching Afro, was not the “hype”. It was the educational side of it and urge to reveal the beauty of the African culture, while encouraging unity and creating a space for growth.Looking at the origins of the moves , what they’re supposed to say, give, represent, demonstrate and the impact they’ve made on the African community. The evolution of some moves , how they got popularised globally and the impact they’ve made. The different Afro dance styles , including specific parts of the body certain African countries focus on/emphasise.There’s so much beauty in all African dance styles, when you dig deeper and look to develop a solid foundation. It’s more than just a “trend”. Today so much of the culture is dismissed.I’m definitely still learning and there will ALWAYS be more to learn..ALWAYS ❤️ Slide 2 : ( a throwback) Dancing to embrace my faith.( clip from NoW event in 2018).This is something also very special to me and something that has transformed me as an individual while impacting those around me. It humbled me and changed my perspective of dance ( which used to be very self-centred and competitive ). It taught me the power of the art of movement and how it can express what cannot be expressed through simple words. I believe that God can definitely use a gift/gifts that He had given you ,to speak to others and touch those going through the toughest challenges of life. I’ve definitely witnessed it in the most beautiful way through this✨ #internationaldanceday by @plamedi_sa

After years and years of being married to my books. We take a break! The Build-up to my graduation was a tough one due to a challenging season that impacted my outlook on things, almost stealing the joy out of celebrating and discussing it. During the early stages of my post-grad, after informing my supervisor that I was transferring universities for post-grad, due to a change in area of focus. I was overwhelmed and wrote a card to myself. In this Card, I wrote everything as if I was reading it on my graduation day. I was speaking many things into existence and some things may have been viewed as unrealistic to some but I was expectant. I opened this card at my graduation ceremony and it all hit me. Reading It made me tear up, reflecting on all that came to pass( the majority being big testimonies). This made me realize how much we can sometimes miss opportunities to be thankful and celebrate every win, big or small. Taking every opportunity to give God the Glory for all that He has done, because we are so focused on what else/more He can do for us. To anyone reading this: No goal or dream is too big/ too unrealistic, with God. Regardless of your situation or circumstance (You are not defined by your situation/circumstance). Work hard/ do your best and let God do the rest ( faith without work is dead). You will encounter times when you feel stagnant, things are not moving and you’re not seeing the results that you’ve been expecting. Keep going, keep pushing and have faith in God. You will encounter times when you feel like all the odds are against you, things are not happening in your favour, it’s just one thing after another. Keep going, keep pushing and have faith in God. You will encounter times when you may have to journey alone for a certain period. Trust the process. Lastly and most importantly, never underestimate the power of pray. Have I achieved every goal set for myself?…of course not. However, patience bears the fruits of perseverance and strength. On the other hand, Comparison is the enemy of self-progression and the thief of joy. So keep running your race, stay hopeful & trust God ❤️1st class MSC med&pharm. This one is for my Papa Koko🕊️❤️ by @plamedi_sa

Something I never make time to do is celebrate myself and my achievements.I find myself so obsessed with how I can do more , achieve more , do better. As a result I end up constantly on the go and never take the time to pause and take things in.. Or to even just relax…Growing up in an environment where you’re constantly expected to achieve the best, is encouraging but can sometimes make you obsessed with “success”.I’ve always been overly hard on myself and always felt that there was always more that I can do, no time to be mediocre and that nothing was “high” enough .” It has to be perfect”..Of course the reality is that there’s no such thing as perfect and of course working towards my ideal self takes time and patience which I tend to forget sometimes.I’m learning that working towards my ideal self takes time and patience which I tend to forget sometimes. It’s about acknowledging what you had to go through to get to where you are now. Being grateful and appreciating how far God has gotten you. Most importantly the fact that it’s not by your own might nor power nor strength. It’s all God’s grace, favour and Mercy upon you ✨Today i’ll take it all in and actually take time to celebrate myself …here’s to the woman that achieved all that she put her mind and effort to through Christ and is still in the process of achieving more and even greater things..regardless many challenges & difficulties faced (personal, health, family wise)❤️ A woman that took on the challenge to continue pursuing her passion for dance and her culture alongside her studies (@afj_cardiff cardiff ) and won 1st place for a @cardiffuni enterprise award . A woman that made it to the top 10 UK students out of 400 for the @targetjobs @skytv “Black heritage undergrad of the year award”. A woman that is now being invited to schools to lead talks and workshops focused on the African culture and Afro -dance. One that feared change but is now trusting God & going for it.This is only the beginning and I’m excited for the new path God is now directing me into in terms of my academic career. Never fear change and always trust God✨grateful for my biggest supporters my family ❤️ by @plamedi_sa

Through Afro Dance, we celebrate our heritage, showing that no matter where we go or what challenges we face, our culture, art, and history remain deeply rooted within us, unshakable and ever-present. This performance explores how music can inspire unique interpretations through dance, shaped by the perspective and experience of each listener.#afjcardiff#afrodanceinwale#explorepage#afrodanceincardiff#danceclassesincardiff by @plamedi_sa
