The Plan II Honors Program presents the annual Liz Carpenter Lecture at LBJ Auditorium, featuring Eddie S. Glaude, author of America, U.S.A.

The Fall 2026 Liz Carpenter Lecture features best-selling author, distinguished scholar, and public intellectual Eddie S. Glaude. He will discuss his most recent book, America, U.S.A.: How Race Shadows the Nation's Anniversaries, which analyzes the historical contexts of myriad milestone American anniversary celebrations to frame and illuminate our current historical moment at 250. A conversation with distinguished UT professor and founding director of the LBJ School's Center for the Study of Race and Democracy, Peniel Joseph, will follow the lecture.

The event will begin promptly at 6PM in the LBJ Auditorium on 2313 Red River Street. Doors will open 15-20 minutes beforehand.

Consistently ranked among the top three public university honors programs in the nation, the Plan II Honors major is for students who combine curiosity and a passion for ideas with energy and engagement in the social as well as the intellectual realm. It is for students who demonstrate creativity and commitment both in the classroom and in the world and are looking for a program that will both nurture and challenge them on every plane.

Plan II students are as diverse as our course offerings and include pre-med students who love anthropology,
engineers with a passion for poetry, business majors who are committed to education reform, as well as
accomplished artists, historians, physicists, and mathematicians. Our community of just under 800 includes students from across the state of Texas, across the nation, and across the world, from every background and every walk of life. What unites them all is an interest in an interdisciplinary education that goes beyond the traditional boundaries of knowledge and prepares them for careers in the twenty-first century.

Plan II Fall 2026 Student Support Scholarship applications are open!
Applications are open NOW and will close on October 11th at 11:59pm.

The application is for Plan II students only.

**UPDATE: Students should apply through the LASSO Scholarship System. Please check the Plan II Newsletter and Canvas messages for the link to apply!

Fall 2026 Student Support is for study abroad or thesis research/travel over Thanksgiving and/or Winter Break 2026. Requests for thesis support over $500 require a letter of support from your supervisor or second reader.

The above quotes were taken from the final remarks to the Plan II Honors class of 2026 by our very own pulitzer-prize winning New York Times Journalist Jennifer Valentino-DeVries and our spectacular student-speaker (and Mx. Plan II!) Tisha Chaudhuri. These words also mark the launch of Plan II’s next round of innovative thinkers, ethical reimaginers, and absolute game-changers. We could not be more excited about the impact that these students will continue to have on the world around them as they “plan II” change the world for the better!

✨ Plan II Student Author Spotlight ✨

We are proud to celebrate Saniyah Qazi (Plan II Honors ’24, Qalam Institute Alum, and current Medical Humanities master’s student) on the publication of her debut children’s novel:

Abdullah’s Curious Chronicles: Mission-Umrah
Published by Safwah Publishers, Pakistan
Illustrated by Zonaisha Arshad

This inspiring story follows a nine-year-old boy in a devoutly Muslim family, exploring themes of faith, entrepreneurship, and personal responsibility.

Fun fact: In keeping with Islamic tradition, the cartoon characters are illustrated without faces! 🎨

About the Author:
Saniyah is passionate about teaching Islamic studies to children, writing, and working with youth. She aspires to pursue a career in medicine as a pediatrician.
