We normalize things that should concern us.
Heavy bleeding.
Debilitating pain.
Exhaustion every month.
And then call it “just being a woman.”
No.

Up to 80% of women will have fibroids—
and too many of us are suffering in silence.
That ends here.

Inspired by Lupita Nyong’o and the Make Fibroids Count movement, I’m speaking up.
Because silence doesn’t protect us.
It delays healing.

I had a dilemma. A REAL one. 😂🌮🌱
Hungry vegan. Downtown San Diego. Hadn’t eaten all day.

On one side: The Taco Stand—packed with people and making fresh corn tortillas right in front of me. 👀

Literally next door: Gentle Grill—an entire plant-based menu and food that looked way too good to walk past.
So naturally, I did what any reasonable, indecisive foodie would do…
I ate at BOTH. 😂
Zero regrets.

But here’s the bigger takeaway: if we want great vegan restaurants in our communities, we have to show up and support them. 🌱💛

So if you’re in downtown San Diego, start at Gentle Grill…
And if you still have room?
Get the taco. 😂🌮

📍 Gentle Grill641 B Street, San Diego

📍 The Taco Stand645 B Street, San Diego

Have you tried either one? Which would you hit first—Gentle Grill or The Taco Stand? 👇🏾

Summer in the City: Toronto 🇨🇦🌱

I come from a family of foodies.
We cook.
We eat.
We’re adventurous.
There’s just one little difference…
I’m the only vegan. 😂

So I took my meat-eating niece to Fresh Kitchen + Juice Bar to see whether Toronto’s plant-based food could win her over.

The scorecard:

🥔 Green poutine: Good—but we agreed the greens could stay off our fries. 😂
(To be fair, the waitress suggested we order the plain one, but we decided to go out on our own 😎)

🧅 Quinoa onion rings: Unexpectedly delicious.

🥬 Miso Brussels sprouts: We can live without them.

🔥 Buffalo + BBQ cauliflower: BANGERS.

🍫🥜 Chocolate peanut butter cheesecake: Absolutely worth the splurge.

And the most important question:

Would she go to another vegan restaurant with me?

Most definitely. 😏🌱

Maybe that’s the beauty of sharing food with people you love. Nobody has to eat exactly like you do.
Sometimes you just sit down, order a few things, keep an open mind…and discover something delicious together.

Good food doesn’t need labels. It just needs to taste good.

Follow along for more Summer in the City: Toronto as I eat my way through one of my favorite cities. 🇨🇦✨

I KEPT MY PROMISE. 😂🎤🍕

My first visit to Afro Pizza was all about one thing: **Was the viral hype real?**

After one bite of the Marley?
Keith Lee was NOT lying. 🔥

But I still had questions:
What do **Afros** have to do with pizza—and could their vegan crust deliver too? 🌱👀

So I came back and got the story.

The name was inspired by *Afro Samurai*, but the bigger idea is the **blending of cultures**—with pizzas designed to reflect multicultural Toronto.

Then Chef told me:
“There’s no wrong decision.”

Challenge accepted. 😂

They veganized **The Whispers** for me: wild mushrooms, caramelized onions, truffle aioli, vegan cheese and garlicky panko crunch.

And yes…another winner. 🍕🔥

That’s what I love about Toronto. Diversity isn’t just different cultures living side by side—it’s what happens when they **meet, mix and create something new.** ❤️

SAVE this for your next Toronto trip and tell me: **The Marley or The Whispers?** 👇🏾

Keith Lee made Afro Pizza go viral… but when I saw the Marley Vegetarian toppings, I was skeptical. 👀🍕

Then I took one bite.

Yeah…they got me. 😂🔥

It was unexpected, bold, and somehow worked perfectly—which honestly feels very Toronto: different cultures, flavors, and influences coming together to create something completely new.

But I still had one question:

**What do Afros have to do with pizza?**

I was ready to ask the chef…and realized I forgot my mic. 🤦🏾‍♀️

So I promised I’d come back.

**Follow @plantpowereddocta for Episode 2—because I returned with my microphones, tested their vegan crust, and finally got the story behind Afro Pizza. 🌱🍕🎤**

Would YOU have tried the Marley? Tell me below. 👇🏾

Okay, friend… how long are we going to keep calling it “being patient” when we know good and well we’re just scared to make the change? 👀😂

Yes, change can be uncomfortable.

But so is staying in the same situation, having the same frustration, and giving yourself the same pep talk every Monday.

At some point, you have to decide:

**Do I want familiar…or do I want better?**

You don’t have to have the whole plan figured out. You just have to be willing to take the next brave step.

Because sometimes the life you’re praying for is waiting on the other side of the thing you keep avoiding.

**Change may be scary, but so is staying the same.**

So this week, sis… make the move. 🌱✨
**Progress over pressure. Always.** 💛

Summer in the City: Toronto 🇨🇦☀️ | Episode 1

Say “Canada” and most people picture snow, hockey and enough winter coats to survive the Arctic. 😂

But the Toronto I love looks a little different.

It looks like sunshine and long summer evenings.
It sounds like music spilling into the streets.
And sometimes, it tastes like warm dhalpuri wrapped around curry. ❤️

One of my first stops when I get back to Toronto is usually for Caribbean roti.
And no—I’m not Trinidadian. 😂 I grew up in a Jamaican household. But curry is one of those flavors that our islands share.

That’s one of the things I love about Caribbean food. A single dish can tell a much bigger story—of migration, survival, adaptation and cultures meeting one another across generations.

It reminds me that honoring where we came from doesn’t mean our stories have to stay frozen in the past.

Sometimes we take what our ancestors carried with them, bring it to a new place, meet new people…and create something beautiful together.
And honestly?
That feels a lot like Toronto. ❤️

So if your picture of Canada begins and ends with snow, allow me to introduce you to another side.

☀️🌆 Welcome to Summer in the City: Toronto Edition.

Come along with me. We’re just getting started.

📸: Shoutout to @wayne_orlando for the Caribana pics

Summer in the City: Chicago | Episode 4 🌆🌱
I went to Chicago with an ambitious itinerary…maybe too ambitious. 😂

Instead of spending half the day crossing the city for restaurants on my list, I stayed flexible—and HappyCow + Pinterest led me to BIBIBOP Asian Grill for a colorful vegan bowl loaded with purple rice, veggies, tofu, pineapple, avocado, kimchi, and plenty of sauce. 😋

Was it the quintessential Chicago meal? Nope.
But I still explored the city, saw the sights, and found a delicious meal I hadn’t planned on.

Travel keeps teaching me this: the itinerary is only the starting point. Sometimes the best experiences happen when you leave room for the unexpected. ✨
Next stop: Toronto 🇨🇦

Summer in the City: Chicago | Episode 4 🌆🌱

I went to Chicago with an itinerary.
A very ambitious itinerary. 😂

There were museums to visit, neighborhoods to explore, photos to take, and approximately 847 things I somehow thought I could squeeze into a few days.

So eventually I had to make a choice:
Spend half my day crossing the city to get to restaurants on my list…or stay flexible.

Enter HappyCow + Pinterest.
That little pivot led me to BIBIBOP Asian Grill, where I built a bowl loaded with purple rice, veggies, kimchi, organic tofu, fresh pineapple, avocado—and, because you know who you're dealing with, SAUCE. Lots of sauce. 😄

Was it the quintessential Chicago meal?
Absolutely not.
But maybe that was the point.
I didn't eat the deep-dish pizza.
I didn't try the Polish sausage.
But I explored the aquarium, wandered through Millennium Park, discovered an African fashion exhibit, visited the Art Institute—and found a delicious meal I hadn't planned on.

Travel keeps reminding me that the itinerary is only the starting point.
Sometimes the best experiences happen when you leave a little room for the unexpected. ✨

They say you can't have it all. Maybe not. But stay open, and you just might get more than you expected.

🌱 Follow along for the next episode of Summer in the City…Toronto 🇨🇦
