✨ INTERN SPOTLIGHT ✨

Closing out our intern introductions, meet Tim!

Originally from Shenzhen, China, Tim later lived in Toronto and St. Louis before heading to the Bay Area for college. At UC Berkeley, his curiosity couldn’t be contained by just one field. He graduated with both a BS in Bioengineering and a BA in Music, concentrating in classical piano performance. 🎹

He then completed medical school at Cornell University, where he discovered his passion for plastic surgery- a specialty whose innovative and transformative nature deeply resonated with him. 🩺

When asked why he chose UW, Tim shared: “for its unparalleled cases, its diverse patient population across the WWAMI region, and its strong culture of collaboration and support.” While Tim is humble about his talents, his meticulous attention to detail and strong work ethic make a lasting impact on both his colleagues and patients. 💜💛

Outside of the OR, Tim loves traveling, trying new restaurants, playing piano, and hitting the tennis court. 🎾 by @plasty.patrol

🔆 INTERN SPOTLIGHT TIME 🔆

Join us in celebrating Dr. Isra Abdulwadood, one of the great members of our intern class, @plasty.patrol! 🎉

Isra grew up in Dallas, TX and went to UT Dallas for undergrad, where she majored in Neuroscience and minored in Art History and Political Science. She also spent a few months in DC as an Archer Fellow working on tracking health economic policies and engaging with hard-to-count communities for the 2020 Census. She earned her MD at Mayo Clinic Alix School of Medicine with a distinction in bioethics 🎓

As a medical student, she started out thinking sh’ed go into palliative care. But the first time she shadowed in the OR, she saw how plastic surgery was similarly focused on prioritizing quality-of-life care and got hooked. She decided she wanted to focus her career on improving the quality of life for her patients and keep their goals of care at the forefront of her practice 🥼

When asked why she chose UW, she proudly shares: “As the first in my family to pursue medicine, I didn’t really know what to look for in a residency program. I just wanted to train where my mentors trained. Once I got to UW, I was drawn to the high clinical volume and truly felt like I was accepted as part of the team as a sub-intern. Another big plus was the café scene in Seattle! Big fan of coffee!” ☕️

Her current career interest is in microsurgical reconstruction, but she is open to learning about all that plastic surgery has to offer! She is also interested in bioethics and hopes to serve on an ethics board one day. Outside the OR you can find her café hopping, reading, hiking, and traveling throughout the PNW (mostly to eat!) 🌄 by @plasty.patrol

Coming back to you with another 🔦 INTERN SPOTLIGHT 🔦

Meet Mia! A Seattle local and University of Washington (x3) icon! 💜💛

When she isn’t single handling a plastic surgery service you can find Mia hiking, running, snowboarding, cooking, trying out all the best matcha spots in Seattle 🍵

She chose plastic surgery because of the breadth of the field, emphasis on creativity, and unique skill set it provides which allows a surgeon to address a variety of surgical problems from head to toe 🩺

✨When ask why she chose UW Mia said: “ I chose to stay at the University of Washington because we offer an extremely diverse, unparalleled clinical experience, in addition to a very collegiate and supportive working environment among residents and faculty. As someone born and raised in Washington state, I also wanted to serve the WWAMI region and give back to the communities I grew up in. “✨

We are thrilled to see all you accomplish over the next six years ! GO DAWGS ! by @plasty.patrol

It’s time to meet one of your new favorite @plasty.patrol faces, @adrianmarkewych ! Adrian grew up in Washington State. He studied Neuroscience at the University of Washington and earned his MD at Rush Medical College. His path to Plastic Surgery was shaped by years serving as a ski patroller and Seattle EMT—experiences that cemented his passion for restoring form, function, and identity for patients after injury.

Why UW? Adrian was drawn to our high clinical volume and multi-state catchment, the close-knit culture he felt while shadowing Dr. Friedrich, and the opportunity to serve the communities that raised him, making UW feel like home.

On the academic side, Adrian brings first-author work on amputation-related pain and complex limb reconstruction, and his research has been presented nationally, graduating in the top of his class and earning a Certificate of Distinction in the Scholar role.

Outside the OR, you’ll find him on a mountain or a river, searching for the next best Thai restaurant, or spending quality time with friends on a neighborhood patio.

We’re thrilled to share the next six years with Adrian—welcome home! by @plasty.patrol
