Conuco is the Taino word for for (garden) plot of land usually behind someone home / property. The land can be burned and dried up for new agricultural. Agriculture that sustained their lives in all capacities. Grateful that a place I shared with my grandparents as a child I can now embody and share with you all. Long live the legacy of our ancestors. Beyond our bodies and temples they continue to live in the land.

Note to self: The universe will match your energy tenfold when you are aligned with a higher purpose. Do not forget to nourish your mind and heart just as much as you nourish your body. It’s pain awareness month: I make jokes about painter having the word “pain” in it all the time porque mejor reírse para no llorar. Listen to your kids, daughters, sisters, friends, and loved ones when they are expressing that they’re in pain. You may not be able to stop the pain from happening, but your acknowledgment and understanding of that person’s capacity makes a world of a difference. We need so much more grace in this world. A society that values killing yourself to “live” in the name of capitalism and prosperity. #painawarenessmonth #chronicpainawareness

CYANOTYPE WORKSHOP — WHAT TO BRING ☀️💙

For our cyanotype workshop with El Salón in Worcester, you’re invited to bring a few small objects to experiment with and create your own sun print.

WHAT TO BRING:
Bring objects NO LARGER THAN 4” × 4”. Flat or relatively flat objects work best.

Look for things with strong contrast, interesting shapes, and pronounced silhouettes—objects that can clearly block the sunlight from reaching the treated paper.

Some ideas:
🌿 Plants, leaves, flowers, grasses, or small branches
🪡 Lace, crochet, mesh, or other textiles with open patterns
💍 Jewelry, chains, charms, or small adornments
🪶 Feathers
🧿 Small charms or meaningful objects
✂️ Paper cutouts, stencils, or found flat objects
🪞 Small transparent or translucent objects can also create interesting effects

FILM NEGATIVES WORK TOO! 📸

You can also bring a film negative or transparency of an image you’d like to turn into a cyanotype. High-contrast images with strong areas of black and white will generally produce the clearest results. You can create a negative from a photograph, drawing, scanned image, or other artwork.

Think bold shapes, strong shadows, and clear silhouettes. Very thick, bulky, or completely opaque 3D objects may not work as well because we need the sunlight to interact with the cyanotype surface.

✨ Bring something personal, something natural, or something curious. Part of the fun is seeing how each object transforms through sunlight.
