@playground.expressive is a 2.5 hours Chair & Heels Dance workshop that takes place each Saunday 13.00 - 15.30 or 17.00 - 19.30, each Wednesday 19.00 - 22.00 at the @bodyexpressiveleuven studio, and some Saturdays in Brussels.

Playground is an inspiring, open and safe space in which you can explore your senses, desires, connect with yourself and have a time of your life.

Here, prejudice, judgement and pressure has no place.

Complete beginners and already experienced dance passionates join our formats.
Since we lead sessions using special Body Expressive Method of teaching, we guide our group giving "levels" of movement and explain emotionality of moves. This way each person can pick their variation and enjoy a choreography in atunment with themselves.

You can be shy, outgoing or in between. Everyone will feel home.

We welcome students from entire Belgium, you can join us via Zoom as well.

At the end of the session we are having professional recordings and solo-recordings but you are never forced to take part in it.
However you can try and not be worried to forget or black out. We love bloopers ☺️

There are variations in our PLAYGROUND EXPRESSIVE workshops ☺️

🟣 Class Types

1️⃣ On the first Sunday of every month you can enjoy Heels choreographies, from our @heels_expressive format.

The choreographies are tailored for heels, with a focus on emotion and story telling. However, you can dance with no heels. No problem 😉!

2️⃣ On all the remaining Sundays, you can enjoy Chair Dance choreographies, from our @chair_dance_express format.

These choreographies are performed on chairs, and sometimes on heels. We include lots of floor work and other elements that make our dance performances simply delicious! 😋

Occasionally, you can enjoy other formats as well.

🟣 Styles

You can expect choreographies inspired by all styles and tastes. We take them all on board! From exotic, and sexy songs to urban and swaggy moods, to alternative vibes (maybe some heavy metal too). To this, we add classical moves, floor work tricks and moves of ALL flavours.

Our team of instructors are educated and certified to teach the @bodyexpressivemethod. They are meeting in one place, however, their backgrounds vary - from Ballet to modern dance, to street dance. They mix it all together, with child-like curiosity ❤️

We believe in diversity and versitility.

🟣 Formats

Most of our workshops are 2.5 hours long, and are dedicated to one choreography. We take our time to get into a move, emotions, to tell the story of a song.

Sometimes, we do a SIBLING FRAME, when two instructors teach 1 choreography each, or DUO FRAME, when one choreography is performed by 2 people. But anything else can happen too 🤗!

The Body Expressive Method of teaching is how we experience dance/fitness. Our main goal is to have our dance students live a full-out, emotional routine.

▪️Working with and through emotions is as important as learning steps and techniques.

▪️We introduce and explore the 4 Flows of Energy theory, where students can learn how to navigate and understand their own energy. We argue that this is all that matters in connection through dance, but it is often barely mentioned in dance classes.

▪️We dance more than we talk about it, to make sure that we have time to open up on a body level. We communicate through body intuition.

▪️Each student can adapt the choreography to their own comfort and is guided on how to do it.

We often see people putting together very nice choreographies but who struggle to let go and give in to the drive, emotions and energy.

People often think about how they look when they dance, and small body restrictions (due to self-consciousness) don't allow them to fully experience the routine.

The “pressure to be sexy" is a big problem. With us, you will act according to your feeling, not expectations. You will find out that it is all about being free, sensual and open than your appearance.

Our methodology is focused on removing all the mental and possible bodily obstacles while students have fun, without focusing on the act. It is a special method that we are exposed to during child play. Thus, we are reducing societal pressure that is one of the biggest reasons why people can’t let go completely.

The Body Expressive Method was created 15 years ago by @k_e_morton. Since then, it crystallised into team of various creative units and specialists. 3 Belgian Universities and different dance and fitness studios host classes based on the Body Expressive Method. We also train instructors to be able to spread it further.

The first choreo of the 2027 Show ☄️ "Medea" , a greek mythological Femme Fatale character that although has been somewhat tragic, in a deeper look symbolized omnipotent radicalism: in power, in intelligence, and if necessary - violence. Although our 2027 show won't portray her direct story, but will withdraw from the radicalism and force she represents.

Dirty Daiana to MJ of course is like the number one choreography of mine that is the essence of it. I will remix Pure, Alien Superstar and Thick from Beyoncé Renaissance as another example of what it will be like. Medea is a radical character that is going to go on, as she wants it and whether or whether not this will be approved, validated, wanted. A female that isn't organizing herself around these at the first place.

We are days away from the Unholy & Alpha Shows but I could not hold it but get MEDEA out of my head. I feel like it is an answer to all the emotional experience of Dimensions, Unholy: a sequel. This year I also had so many epiphanies (that were more intense recently). I felt that after creative investigations that for me always go along what I learn in layers about the world, universe society and myself. ... I got to the bottom of it. And Medea will be that energy.

Also, a small personal insert. I met once a Belgian poet who would be having coffee in same place as me. He told me once about Medea (he thought I had something of it), I didn't do much of it then. But he would be telling me about her, so finally I looked it up and it stick to me. As many years later, observing the world and watching how the power dynamics I just internally arrived to the conclusion that she wasn't a tragic character. But the world was tragic. So it is important to embrace "her side to us" especially in us women. (Thank you Aldo).

Next year, I would also want to prioritize visuals over the performance (we will still perform) but I would want us to make a conceptual video (book with chapters) . Also for students to train a bit more one piece per direct outcome.

I promised myself to never force shows. To only do it if and until something "internally calling" comes with it. Here we are. More soon 🙂 by @playground.expressive

"APEILI" tiny energy of hope, but a little dark too, with soft radiating red,an ambience of being lost and found. The music took us to swim through it effortlessly. Today's workshop of PLAYGROUND EXPRESSIVE with the girls was a deep sensual dril and a bit of work out too :)

I’ve known this song by heart ever since I was a child and I feel it on so many levels. The lyrics got a whole new meaning for me when my dad past away when I was only 13 years old. It will always remind me of him. So this choreo is a bit more emotional and personal to me..

Using dance as a way to express whatever you may feel can be a liberating feeling but it can also help you deal with those emotions that you can’t always put into words. 🤍 taken in Body Expressive Leuven by @playground.expressive

Drama, freedom, letting it all out. A beautiful choreography of @daiachde to "Unknown" JJ brought our students to their most open expression.A combination of choreographed piece and a personal improvisation was an intense experience for bodies, minds and hearts. by @playground.expressive
