Got new felt pens, they're double ended which I like so much better for drawing.

The end is near!

I like working outside - and sometimes it means I get to meet interesting characters (bugs, mostly).

Since it's #worldmentalhealthday, here's a poem I wrote a while ago when it seemed like EVERYONE I knew was dealing with something and I realized I wasn't alone and how sad and uplifting that was.

Here's another #writingtip that I'm sure everyone has heard before:

Start at the end and work backwards!

Here's some stuff that I think makes it work for me:
× I find it easier to figure out the causality. X happened *because* of Y which happened *because* of Z etc. This thread of causality keeps your plot moving and, in a way that I really like, can make it feel like the entire plot was inevitable from the first moment.
× I - personally - get wayyy more done at the start of when I sit down to work (taking breaks helps a lot though!), so I like to switch between starting at the beginning and starting at the end so it gets worked on from both directions
× It's much easier to lay down foreshadowing when it's not foreshadowing it's a callback to the thing you wrote at the top of the page.

I don't always get work done when I sit down to work, but I'm trying really hard to make something come out every time. Whether that's actually a good #productivity tip or not, I'll let you know.

So here's a #doodle from this morning.

So here's one that I'm working on these days: The Epic of Gilgamesh is (among) the oldest piece(s) of written literature discovered¹. It dates back to approximately 2100 BC.

The version I've been reading is a translation by Herbert Mason. I just absolutely love it. It's only like 80 pages but the beauty contained within truly does span the ages. It's both super easy to read in an afternoon because it's short but it's also SO HARD to read in an afternoon because it's so packed and every word is in its right place and I just get caught up in how nicely it all fits together and I can marvel at it like a finely made watch.

Anyway, it's a new fave of mine and also I'm working on adapting it for the stage in a way that captures the fun and adventure of the story that counterweights the profundity and grief.

¹There is only a little debate about this but it's usually about what is "literature" than what is oldest. I mean online anyway. I'm sure scholars have better stuff to argue about.²

²What does everyone think about footnotes? The other thing I'm reading lately is Infinite Jest by David Foster Wallace and they're all over it to great effect. by @playwrights.notes

Hey all, if you're reading this you either scrolled back to the start or you're here at the start so, welcome.

I'll be using the page to peer pressure myself into having better handwriting and taking better notes and drawing more often. So you can look forward to that - my handwriting is starting out pretty dire. But this is mostly about the notes.

If you've read the @, you can probably guess what the notes will be about: plays I'm writing, the art of playwrighting, and other theatre/film/art ideas that I wanted to write down and found out they were worth it.
