Grandfather left me his old Swiss army knife with black ebony handles. It initiated my passion for folding knives. © plicatilis, all rights reserved.

Making-of by Élouan Coudé, 2025-2026.

Always a pleasure for every collector to see how the knife is created and Élouan did a great job documenting the process as you can see.

All pictures were provided by Élouan and are hereby published under his copyright and with his kind agreement. by @plicatilis

Hand-made knife by the young French knifemaker Élouan Coudé, who forges his own damascus - and, aside from being such a talented and passionate knifemaker, he holds a lawyer‘s degree.

Thank you so much Élouan, I am absolutely delighted you made this wonderful linerlock for me.

And thanks to Gabriel Berthelemy (@la.forge.agab) for the tip. by @plicatilis

With every knife you collect you have a different connection depending on it’s characteristics, the person who made it, the moment you discovered it and the adventures, emotions and memories you may connect with it.

Here are five masterpieces that I literally can’t stop looking at:

Miniature folding knife (found in Switzerland) shown compared to my grandfather’s original Swiss military knife (Wester & Co, Solingen):

The dimensions of the mini-folder are:
total length: 4.7 cm (1.85 in)
blade length: 1.8 cm (0.7 in)
weight: 2g (0.07 oz)

…and believe it or not: half-stop opening mechanism !

During the 19th and 20th centuries, Europe—particularly in renowned blade‑making centers such as Solingen in Germany and Sheffield in England—experienced a remarkable boom in the production of miniature knives, many measuring only 2 to 5 cm in length. Within the knife‑making tradition, crafting exceptionally small folding knives was regarded as the ultimate test of mastery. The smaller the knife and the greater the number of fully functional blades or tools it contained, the more highly the maker’s skill was esteemed. Apprentices and journeymen often created such pieces to demonstrate their technical proficiency and artistic precision.

Stealth Geometry

French bladesmith Gabriel Berthelemy (La Forge Agab; @la.forge.agab) brings his architectural background and unmistakably creative design language to Böker with the new Kazy (Böker Plus series; @boker_knives).

Berthelemy has become one of the finest and most creative French knifemakers today by combining geometric forms and unexpected angles in his work that often feel close to architectural design - and some lines even echo the stealth aesthetics of modern aircrafts. Gabriel has deliberately changed his design over time to evolve his models in small steps and at the same time he successfully conserved his very unique design language. That’s something I really admire.

Of coures, the new model fits nicely in the hand and the mechanism is working perfectly. Thank you very much Gabriel, I am delighted with this piece!

Kazy by Gabriel Berthelemy in collaboration with Böker:
• 67 mm Nitro‑V stainless steel blade
• Liner lock mechanism
• G10 handle
• One‑hand opening
• Pocket clip

Based in Ukraine, Aleksandr Vetrov (@_vetrovaleksandr_) crafts exquisite custm-knives. They are recognized worldwide and both, their mechanism and his level of attention to every detail is absolutely stunning.

This is his „Lunaris“ model prototype, lock-back version, that I am so proud to own. It simply is a masterpiece.

Aleksandr recently told me that his books are currently open, so if you are interested I would definitely recommend reaching out to him. by @plicatilis

Recently got this elegant lightweight Salem Trapper by Grayson Jennings (@jennings_customknives) with nicely layered brown, black and emerald Westy. Also, the lines along the blade and details overall are absolutely stunning.

Could not be happier with the result. Thank you so much Grayson, including sharing with me some of the steps along the way during the production time. by @plicatilis

Premium Gun stock Jack with sheep foot blade, handmade by Ryuchi Kawamura.

What fascinates me about this knife is how Ryuchi sets apart the satin hand-rubbed tip from the rest of the blade. It’s his smallest model he first presented back in 2023.

I am absolutely delighted he agreed to make this piece for me. by @plicatilis

Neo Franco-Canadian Cyril Doche (@cyrildocheknives) is coming back to Coutellia (@coutellia), so I thought it’s time to post this gorgeous piece that I got a while ago.

No visible screws, no tolerances visible - and some museum quality mango scales provided by Kiran Abrams (@kiranskoa). Almost too good to be true…

Happy holiday my friends and my special greetings to Cyril & Stephane! by @plicatilis

My three @torpen29 (by Jérôme Hovaere aka Torpen). Powerful design language with a technical touch, a beautiful logo (Tiger beetle!), and some cool variations to each and every piece.

Really one of the most innovative makers in my opinion… and I am very much looking forward to the new models Jérôme must be preparing these days. Because we are moving towards the Tiger beetle‘s season!

Did you hear that Jérôme….?!

❤️🏆 Take care!! by @plicatilis
