Please welcome the latest baby of the series “Trusting Memories”🥳 this trio is complete ☺️ This piece (in the middle) started with a sketch drawn last yr in Columbus Ohio and research about the Bantu migration from present day Cameroon and Nigeria. I was thinking about the vast legacies of trans and queer Bantus lost through colonial assimilation. Then I remembered it’s not just fraught with pain and erasure, it’s full of pride, courage, protection and bravery.

Here is “we inherited courage and protection too”, from my grieving hopeful heart to yours 🌻
The series “Trusting Memories” is a meditation on queer African histories, the legacy of colonization, personal and collective memory, grief, shame and love.

Trans and queer Africans have always been here and we will always be here, regardless of how y’all feel about it.
