Oversharing is kind of my thing, but I’ll still give this a go, inspired by the vulnerability I’ve seen from others. Social media is fake. Here are some real things about me that I rarely share: ✨ Being a fat forty-plus-year-old influencer is kinda like finally sitting at the cool kid’s table in high school but knowing you’ll never fully belong. ✨ Years of imposter syndrome held me back, but my course on size-inclusivity in maternity care is live. Now, I’m grappling with the fear that people won’t see the value in what I’ve created. ✨ I thought I’d be a better mom. I’m a good mom, but I’ve let my work take priority over him more times than I’d like to admit. ✨ Sometimes, it’s hard to exist as the “before” photo in everyone’s before and after posts. #socialmediaisfake #plussizemom #plusmommy by @plusmommy
🔴 My TEDx Talk is officially live, and I’m feeling so proud and emotional right now. I poured months into this talk because everyBODY deserves respectful and evidence-based care. If you have ever felt dismissed or unheard in healthcare, this talk is for you. If you are a provider working toward size-inclusive care with compassion, thank you. You matter more than you know. ♥️ 🎥 Watch on YouTube or link in bio: EveryBODY Deserves to be Treated with Dignity @tedxabq 📷 @tamfarmphoto #tedtalk #tedxabq #plussizebirth by @plusmommy
✈️ Dear Southwest, I remember the first time I used your Customer of Size (COS) Policy. I was embarrassed walking up to the counter…but I was met with kindness. For over a decade, I’ve flown @southwestair exclusively because this policy gave me something priceless: the dignity to travel. It meant I wouldn’t be the next viral video of someone upset about sitting next to the “fat passenger.” Newsflash: I don’t want to snuggle strangers either! That empty middle seat wasn’t just for me, it gave my fellow passengers comfort too. Airline seats have shrunk over the years, making flying tough for many, not just those in larger bodies. COS wasn’t special treatment; it was accessibility. Because of this policy, I felt empowered to travel and share my story. One video went viral with 3M+ plays, which led to my invitation to your first creator’s event in 2023. Behind the viral video were cruel comments, echoing the stares I get when flying. COS helped ease what too often feels humiliating. That’s why the recent changes are heartbreaking. Starting in January 2026, refunds for a second seat are no longer guaranteed if the flight is full. This isn’t just about comfort. It’s about financial barriers. Many will face the impossible choice of paying for two seats…or not traveling at all. That means missed weddings, funerals, graduations, and long-dreamed-of adventures. Your heart logo is more than branding; it should represent accessibility and inclusion. Those values must remain at the heart of travel. 💔 Please listen to your customers and restore what made this policy so meaningful. With respect and hope for change, Jen McLellan ❤️ 💛 💙 Have you relied on the COS policy to travel with dignity, or have an opinion to share? Add your voice! I hope Southwest takes the time to listen. by @plusmommy
NO SPOILERS! I’d never do that to you. 🍿 I’m a huge documentary fan. Dear Zachary is my all-time favorite, even though it broke me in half. So, when I started hearing whispers of spoilers for You Can See Everything, I knew I needed to get to the theater ASAP. And for the first time ever, I went to the movies by myself! Why have I never done that before?! I loved the entire experience. But can we talk about this movie?! Three hours that somehow didn’t feel like three hours. Part documentary, part thriller, part mystery, and unlike anything I’ve ever watched. I think this film will change how documentaries are made. It completely blew my mind! If you love documentaries, GO SEE IT before someone spoils it for you. If you’ve already seen it, tell me what you thought (no spoilers, of course). by @plusmommy
Not my favorite appointment, but one I never skip. After Mohs surgery and more biopsies than I can count, I take skin checks seriously. Here’s your loving nudge to get checked, too. 💗 by @plusmommy
Being interviewed by all my dream media outlets and having People Magazine call me a “popular blogger and podcaster” would’ve been a dream come true. But the reason behind my viral moment was more of a nightmare. Seven years ago today, my husband and son were in a bad car accident when a distracted teen driver in an SUV ran a red light. I’ll never forget the call. Or running up to the scene and freezing when I saw my son covered in something red and sticky. A paramedic immediately called out, “It’s a drink.” The boys had stopped for Slurpees on their way to a friend’s house. Braeden, wearing white shorts, was covered in it, his face contorted in a way I’d never seen. Sheer terror. Then I saw Chris. I could tell he was holding it together for the kiddo, as we parents do, with adrenaline helping. Then I saw the car, and my stomach dropped. I’ll also never forget the paramedics telling me that the booster seat we still insisted our nine-year-old use helped prevent far worse injuries. His pediatrician echoed that later. So, me being me, I wanted to raise awareness about booster seat safety. When life gets turned upside down, I try to find some good in it. Education through storytelling has always been my jam. The story went viral with millions of views. Then the media started calling. Suddenly, Braeden’s message about booster seat safety was everywhere, including his reminder that “cool kids are safe kids.” Meanwhile, Chris, who spent weeks recovering on the couch because sleeping in our bed was too painful, was simply referred to by outlet after outlet as “the father who was driving.” Seven years later, that’s still a running joke whenever he feels left out. But all jokes aside, that day changed our family. And sometimes it still shows up in unexpected ways, especially now that the kid in that booster seat is 16 and learning to drive. It’s odd to mark the anniversary of one of the hardest experiences our family has been through. But if sharing it reaches even one parent of a booster-age child who needs to understand booster seat safety (see the final image from @thecarseatlady), then it’s worth sharing again. “Cool kids are safe kids.” 🩷 by @plusmommy
I’ve seen firsthand what free universal childcare can make possible. 🩷 #sponsoredpartner A close friend of mine was able to go back to school and start working toward her teaching license because she had access to free childcare here in New Mexico. And she’s already teaching. Looking back at photos like this one of me holding her baby just about two years ago, I can’t help but think about the ripple effect. Free childcare helped my friend continue her education and build the career she wanted. And now she spends her days supporting even more New Mexico kids. Her story was on my mind as I listened to Episode 4 of Pass the Sopapillas, Universal Free Childcare: How We All Win. When you know someone whose life has been directly impacted, conversations like this hit a little differently. And that’s one of the things I’m enjoying about Pass the Sopapillas. It’s giving us a chance to hear more about what’s happening across New Mexico from the people who live here and are doing the work. Hosted by New Mexico State Poet Laureate Manuel González, the conversations are curious, honest, sometimes funny, and very New Mexican. And there are many more stories to come. So if you haven’t started listening yet, this is a pretty great place to jump in. 🎧 Listen to Episode 4, Universal Free Childcare: How We All Win, at the link in my bio. #passthesopapillas by @plusmommy

I love so many things about calling New Mexico home. 🌵🩷 And universal free childcare is absolutely one of them! #sponsoredpartner I knew New Mexico was doing something pretty incredible for families, but I didn’t know the story of how we got there. So, I appreciated getting the backstory while listening to Episode 4 of Pass the Sopapillas, Universal Free Childcare: How We All Win. This didn’t just happen. For years, New Mexico parents, childcare providers, advocates, community organizations, and lawmakers kept working toward something better for kids and families. And now we’re seeing what that work can mean in real life. Parents can stay in school or keep building their careers (and I’ve seen this directly impact my friends). Families have more money for groceries and other necessities. Some parents no longer need a second job or side hustle just to make everything work. The more I learned about how New Mexico got here and the people who helped make it happen, the prouder I feel to call this enchanted place home. So, I’m passing the sopapillas (and not just because I have a gluten allergy 😂) and encouraging you to listen to Pass the Sopapillas. 🎧 Start with Episode 4, Universal Free Childcare: How We All Win, at the link in my bio. #passthesopapillas by @plusmommy
📚 What a fun way to celebrate indie publishing in Albuquerque! Eat the Rich is an anthology of stories about the rich being devoured in many ways. The featured writers are just as diverse in their backgrounds and publishing experience. From award-winning published authors to writers seeing their work in print for the very first time, this anthology holds to Eirik Gumeny and Monica Rodriguez’s vision for @atomiccarnivalbooks. Making space for stories and storytellers that deserve to be seen! I had the thrill of leading today’s Q&A at @booksonthebosque, celebrating this project and honoring Eirik, who passed away in July 2024. I love supporting indie publishing, and it’s even better when it’s local with friends. Congratulations, @monicarodgum, T.L. Bodine, and everyone who helped bring Eat the Rich into the world. I highly recommend you give it a stab..🔪❤️📚 by @plusmommy
Local friends, join me! 📚 Albuquerque writer, editor, and publisher Eirik Gumeny and his wife, my close friend Monica Rodriguez, started @atomiccarnivalbooks Monica and I agree that it’s a real missed opportunity that Eirik and I never got the chance to know each other before he passed in July of 2024. But I’ve actually gotten to know the man through the people who love him fiercely. And what a gift that has been! This Sunday, I’ll have the honor of joining @monicarodgum and author T.L. Bodine to celebrate the launch of Eat the Rich, an anthology Eirik began working on before his death. We’ll talk about Eirik and the story behind the book, hear from T.L., and I’ll lead the Q&A. I’d love to see you at @booksonthebosque this weekend! 📚 by @plusmommy
One year you’re standing on the red circle. The next, you’re helping someone else step onto it. 🔴 2025 Speaker ❤️ 2026 Volunteer Throughout my day volunteering with @tedxabq for the 2026 event, I couldn’t help but flash back to my own experience nearly a year ago. The nerves. The excitement. The incredible people cheering me on behind the scenes. And, of course, that surreal moment of finally stepping onto the red circle. This little video can’t possibly capture either experience or all of the amazing people behind and in front of the stage who made them happen. Many I now call friends. I’m incredibly proud to be part of the TEDxABQ family, with a special shout-out to the one and only @aandrego, who pours her everything into making TEDxABQ happen. Turns out, the red circle is pretty special from both sides. 🔴❤️ by @plusmommy
