Fly fishing 101. The ol’ contactless quick release 😷 Took young buck out for a tug today. Hiked East Fork a couple miles back until someone stepped in the water, recovering some flies from the trees. We won’t talk about who’s flies they were but, we had a great day out there today. Temps were in the upper 40s by lunch. Sun was out, jackets were off and the fish were active. Nice snow melt, pools everywhere. Be cool to your catch would you. Smash your barbs down, practice #CatchAndRelease and pick up your trash 👍🏽 Dropped a couple nymphs under an indicator for this one. It was a dead drift that got em; Through a pool that sat next to a large bolder casting a shadow. My bugs were positioned slightly outside of that shadow, pretty deep. This guy must have come out from the shade to grab my fly. I could see the tips of his fins as I brought him in, they were white. “This tells us that he’s #WILD and #NATIVE bud.” 😎(I can only take credit for the first video in this series of photos/video.) Dear Buster ,

You took your final walk into the great beyond today. Things won’t be the same without you hanging around here. You brought all of us many years of joy, and for that we are eternally grateful for you bud. You were the best boy, everyone loved you, and you never hurt a fly. Though you always held a stoic face, you were sweet and silly, happy and fun. A perfect reflection of those who cared for you. Your existence was very significant to my life, and what makes it even more special for me is that you walked into our lives by chance. You found us, and we claimed you. You were here through thick and thin, when it was cold you brought warmth, and you always brought a light to my life when I was in darkness. I don’t think you realize how major your roll was in my bounce back. Trying not to cry while I write this. We chose to keep you home until you were ready, I’m glad we did. I got to take a good deep look into your soft eyes before took your eternal nap. You were glaring right back in my eyes like you often do, and I know you are telling me something that was meaningful to you. I sure wish I knew what. I’m sure it was mutual appreciation & respect. I’m not so sure I understand the concept of “love” , but I know you touched us deeply. And that light won’t ever burn out. A huge part of our lives is now missing, and the idea of adapting to life without you is uncomfortable. But we gonna keep your memory alive, legend. After all, I suppose that’s where all the meaning in this whole experience is found…This void is reserved for you boy. Rest now, we’ll keep the night light on for you. I could fish for hand sized wild browns with a 3wt, on a small stream all day. These guys may be small but they are aggressive. Thanks for all the love this weekend, was very pleased to see a bunch of familiar faces on the mountain yesterday, Conditions were ideal! I had a lot of luck on top of the water this weekend, many larger terrestrials were out. Take note ! It’s May 30th 📝 We literally stumbled into a massive hopper hatch in the meadows along the Guadalupe River. Witnessed a live grasshopper fall into the Guadalupe and float a good 2 yards downstream before getting completely SMASHED by one of these jalapeño sized native trout, hiding under some overhang. The experience was almost as good as catching. Olive body #Caddis did well, size 14 #Hoppers, and of course my favorite fly, the ol trusty #GriffithsGnat always seems to do well in these parts. I must have put in 10 miles in flip flops out here. Practice catch and release. I’ll catch YOU all back in Babylon 😎🤙🏽 #GeminiSeason #Grounded by @pmscollect
