Following early developments in Berlin and a recent presentation in Luxembourg, choreographer Po-Nien Wang brings the next phase of his solo performance, PRELUDE TO MOUNTAIN GHOST, to Taipei to conclude his one-month residency at Shinehouse Theatre.

Rooted in ancient Chinese mythology and Buddhist philosophy, the piece is a direct exploration of queer identity, gender fluidity, and the search for belonging. Developed alongside long-term collaborator and interdisciplinary director Troels Primdahl, this work-in-progress presentation unveils the latest excerpts and physical research to emerge from their time in the studio.

Memories from Giulio Cesare in Egitto. This production marked my third collaboration with Opera director Sir David McVicar and my debut at Deutsche Oper Berlin. It was a true honour to work alongside such inspiring artists and the incredible team at the house.

Grateful for every moment, and already looking forward to returning next year! taken in Deutsche Oper Berlin by @po_nien

Excited to announce I’ll be in residency at TROIS C‑L @trois.cl from May 20–June 3, 2026 to expand my solo work 'Mountain Ghost'.

'Mountain Ghost' is a choreographic exploration of belonging, identity and fluidity, inspired by the ancient Chinese poem The Mountain Spirit — a love story between a human and a mystical being. With research support from TRAUMA Arts and Culture (formerly Trauma Bar und Kino), the piece premiered as a 20‑minute prelude at The Feuerle Collection (Berlin, 2024) and Want To Dance Festival (Taipei, 2025).

During this residency I’ll collaborate remotely with composer Nicki Wells @nickiwells to create an original soundscape and develop the work from site‑responsive performance into a theatre piece. The residency culminates in a public showing as part of TROIS C‑L’s 3duTROIS series. I look forward to meeting new audiences, connecting with fellow artists, and establishing a creative exchange between Berlin, Taipei and Luxembourg. Many thanks to Bernard Baumgarten (TROIS C‑L), Shinehouse Theatre @shinehousetw , Troels Primdahl (TRAUMA) @troels_primdahl , producer TingAn Ying @thistingdances , and everyone who has supported this project.
