Soyeon Shin and Po-Nien Wang investigate the psychological dynamics underlying the feminization of technology, through choreography and movement. The artists question the ways which bodies are represented, controlled, and fetishized in digital culture today. The idea came from Soyeon’s earlier project “The Dark Cloud”, which explored the hidden materiality of the internet: cables, data centers, and its unseen infrastructures. During an early research, the artists quickly became aware of the overwhelming female-coded images and voices in the virtual world. From AI influencers to animated idols, these digital women serve as a continuation of male gaze, merged with the capitalist logic of consumption. Soyeon and Po-Nien think this phenomenon reveals not only gendered power, but also a deep emotional need – the desire for control and comfort behind the digital life. In “The Digital Skin” is a reflection on the power dynamic within the internet world, and an exploration of the potential for resistance in the digital age.

.
Honoured that Andrew George and Sir David McVicar placed their trust in me to revive this incredible production at DOB. With such an incredible cast it was going to be a massive success and I couldn’t have been prouder of every single person on stage. Big shout out goes to Mark Ruddick for keeping me smiling the whole time.

Following early developments in Berlin and a recent presentation in Luxembourg, choreographer Po-Nien Wang brings the next phase of his solo performance, PRELUDE TO MOUNTAIN GHOST, to Taipei to conclude his one-month residency at Shinehouse Theatre.

Rooted in ancient Chinese mythology and Buddhist philosophy, the piece is a direct exploration of queer identity, gender fluidity, and the search for belonging. Developed alongside long-term collaborator and interdisciplinary director Troels Primdahl, this work-in-progress presentation unveils the latest excerpts and physical research to emerge from their time in the studio.
