Nothing 05 (Load Er)
video (no sound), 22 min, UHD, portrait
2025

Nothing 05 (Load Et) is an arrangement of sharded stories and memories. Timelines are disrupted and explanations are withheld. Gestures, objects, and images resist immediate interpretation. The video is muted to evade simplification into a digestible storyline for consumption. A silence that might be refusal or mourning. A repeated movement that could be ritual or disorientation. Patience is needed for a non-linear delivery, humility in the face of discomfort, and an acknowledgment of what is withheld. We do not need to decode everything. Nuance, silence, and opacity are part of the message. by @pobklomami

Nothing 03 (Sænd)

Interactive video installation (2 x UHD, 4-channel sound installation)
Video (UHD, 5.1 sound)
22'29"

2024-2026
Filmed in Blonduös, Iceland, during a residency at the Icelandic Textile Center (@textilmidstod).

Nothing 03 (Sænd) is an observational docufiction that retraces the outcome of aksanti 33 (part 3), a failed attempt to escape the torments of the West through the spatiotemporal portal ISHARA. This new promising technology provides safe travel through the center of the Earth instead of operating via the disintegration and reintegration of the travellers’ constitution – a method that has unfortunately led to unsatisfactory and regrettable outcomes. Another remarkable feature of this new technology is the dematerialization of baggage into sound waves carried by the traveller, which is made available in this video in remembrance of the departure of Subject1. ISHARA is an ambitious project in its testing phase. The volunteers run the risk of deviations in the engineer’s calculations, but their contribution is invaluable for the future of humanity in the damaged Northern hemisphere. This video is based on the latest information received from Subject1. by @pobklomami

Nothing 01 (Small Talk) and Nothing 02 (_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _)

multimedia installation, sensors, real-time data processing, real-time multi-channel audio/video composition
~11 years

Nothing 01 and 02 are part of an ongoing series that broaches the ongoing genocide of millions of people in the Democratic Republic of Congo and the stealing of sovereignty generation after generation from underlying questions such as: How to humanly compute atrocities of that scale?

There is no precise day-to-day report of the number and name of people who were murdered, raped, tortured, trafficked, displaced, or disappeared in this genocide. There are no precise numbers for the quantity of extracted minerals, economic gain, or enslavement from the illegal mines that cover 60%-80% of the world’s supply of cobalt and coltan. There are rounding, underestimation, forecast, extrapolation, incomplete census, difficult reports and studies, and countless individual stories and testimonies. One of the regular and rigorous data from anywhere is the weather. It is also one of the primary topics for the everyday small talk in the West. If we can’t talk about the genocide, maybe we can discuss the weather under which it is happening. Nothing 01 is a real-time audiovisual composition animated by the weather data from the past, the present, and the future. It also revives the lost and incomplete final speech of Patrice Lumumba, the first prime minister of DR Congo at the independence, before his murder. It explores the disembodiment and re-embodiment of data and the spectral presence of its sources through noise. The piece carries the coexistence of calm and agitation, numbness and exacerbation. Nothing 02 is a desperate but controlled attempt to count and name all the victims (data) with no specific order (noise). The intention is to humanize by spelling numbers as names and to acknowledge each person by taking the time to compute, pronounce, and breathe. This counting would take more than 11 years if it was done non-stop, making this piece super-durational. It is an act of being with and through that needs to be witnessed to occur. Witnesses trigger the whole room. by @pobklomami

𝘌𝘯𝘥𝘭𝘪𝘯𝘨 08 (𝘈̀ 𝘭𝘢 𝘥𝘦́𝘳𝘪𝘷𝘦) responds to the sensations of suffocation, drift, and abandonment that accumulated during a short period in which the artist lost several family matriarchs in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. It is part of a series documenting a cycle of performances titled 𝘢𝘬𝘴𝘢𝘯𝘵𝘪 33, in which the figure Batamu emerges from a deep sleep into an unknown state, unearthing memories and grief that span from childhood to the present.

Day 13 : From Palestine to Sudan, from the Democratic Republic of the Congo to Montreal.
This global context—still marked by repression, forced displacement, looting, and genocide—makes dialogue and education for the younger generations all the more necessary.
This year, we were fortunate to welcome three exceptional panelists and activists: @duhaelmardi1 @pobklomami and @nellybassily , who joined our campers to discuss current events and solidarity movements for Sudan, Palestine, and the Congo in small groups. Each group then presented to the rest of the Freedom School what they had learned and, most importantly, why it was important to pay attention to these current events.
Although it can be intimidating to discuss such serious topics with our youngest students, providing them with the space to ask questions, make connections to their own realities, and—above all—understand the workings of the world they inhabit is essential for developing their critical thinking and fostering their agency. It also serves as a reminder that no revolutionary movement can succeed without a transgenerational approach. We won’t change the world without considering its future—and they are our future.

Freedom School is made possible thanks to financial support from the @centrevillemontreal and the Black Communities Foundation, with partial support from the Government of Canada @fdnblkcomm and the Government of Canada @patrimoine.cdn And also SHIFTConcordia

Nothing 07 (How much time do you want?)

"How long will this take? A forever delay without horizon or end. Western time presents itself as solution—more time, always more time—while the present remains saturated with harm. Extractive capitalism renders communities expendable, positioning people as endangered within their own lands. A racist logic of extinction is embedded in global supply chains. Violence operates infrastructurally: through the distribution of exposure to death and precarity, the partitioning of populations into zones of value and sacrifice where some lives are deemed structurally ungrievable. Grief is delayed, contained, edited, polished, put away."

Screensavers
Solo exhibition, OPTICA - Centre d'art contemporain
November 1 - December 13, 2025
@centre_optica

"Lomami’s Screensavers unfolds at the threshold between visibility and opacity, presence and disappearance, offering a slower, more attentive encounter with the histories of genocide and colonial resource extraction in the Democratic Republic of Congo. These works create affective and embodied encounters in which viewers are invited to engage with these histories through forms that resist representation and transparency. In an era obsessed with data consumption and quantification, Lomami’s politics of opacity becomes an act of epistemic disobedience—a way of knowing otherwise that unsettles the very regimes of visibility through which catastrophe becomes legible."

The term Genocost exposes the paradox that what is celebrated as progress is inseparable from violence in the Democratic Republic of Congo. It reveals the underside of modernity: that g*noc*de and ecoc*de are not failures of progress but its hidden conditions. To speak of Genocost, then, is to demand that the future be reimagined as no longer at the expense of Congolese lives and lands, but through solidarities that refuse to normalize this criminal sacrifice that subsidizes progress.
