As always, I can never post the same day anything happens 😅 But here’s to three years of learning the gentle art and competing in my first @grapplingindustries competition as a white belt 🤍💪🏾

Your girl managed to bring home a silver medal in the light feather division after 5 exhausting matches 🥈

I came into this competition with no expectations, just wanted to put myself out there and see what I was capable of, and of course have fun!

Biggest thanks to all my friends, team and coaches at @studionw2 that came to watch, support and coach me throughout the day.

The real mvp was @freddie.aj for taking good care of me in the sidelines. ❤️

Competed in my first BJJ quintet tournament as a white belt at @hertzgrappling to raise money for @saferplacesuk 🫶🏾 It was inspiring to be surrounded by strong and fierce women on the mats. I’m fired up for my next competition 🔥#bjjwhitebelt #womeninbjj #bjj

Day 1: calisthenics for BJJ
Step 1: get humbled

Been training BJJ for over two years now, and I go gym 1-3x a week, and train BJJ 2-3x a week. I know it seems a lot but sometimes, i only get 1 gym session a week and 2 BJJ sessions. Important thing for me is just showing up despite only giving 10%. And I’ve always been interested in calisthenics so I finally decided to try it this year 😆✌🏽

I was one of those people that would hop from one hobby to the next. Always on a side quest to learn a new skill but never completely mastering it. And in my journey, I knew i was lacking consistency. So i told myself I would find that one thing I would stick to. I was in between wanting to learn muay thai, tricking and calisthenics. BJJ wasn’t even in my radar. Until my boyfriend decided to bring me to my first trial class. I still wasn’t convinced but he kept encouraging me to go and paid for the next few one day classes. Guys, i got bribed to join okay 🤣 Don’t judge. He said he’d pay for my very first gi! And i accepted. In this economy? Yes, thank you 😂😂 And here we are two years later. This is one of the ways we stay playful in our relationship. Having BJJ in both our lives, it brings out both the playful and competitive sides of us. Training with freddie has made our relationship stronger in ways I didn’t expect. Honestly, I didn’t want to join him at first thinking that this was ‘his’ alone time. But he kept encouraging me to try it ☺️ And now two years later we’re constantly learning, failing and growing side by side. It’s made both of us more patient, playful and communicative.
It’s not just about technique or rolls, it’s about how we show up for each other on and off the mats. ❤️
