Comment ‘connect’ for more info 🌱🍄🎶 The Pocket Scíon is back in stock! Our first run sold out almost immediately, this next batch is here just in time for the holidays. Pocket-sized and affordable, this instrument converts small changes in electrical activity into sound. Plug into your favorite plants and mushrooms and play music using the 4 onboard instruments or connect via MIDI / USB to your computer, modular, or other synthesizers for endless possibilities.

The Pocket Scíon is an active project - you’ll find new beta firmware on our discord and an active community of users exploring art and science.

We can’t wait to see what you create!

A collaboration between Scottish Instruō Specialist Synthesizers and Canadian musician and biologist Modern Biology

Toronto: extended until Sept 7!!!! Mushroom Music is at @arcadiaearth 🍄🎶

Immerse yourself in surging hyphal networks, giant amanitas, and a mandala of the 5 divisions of fungi - while creating the soundtrack yourself! Touching the two touchpads connects your bioelectricity to that of our resident mushrooms, triggering notes and rhythms unique to your experience ✨

And when i say ‘my’ new installation I mean ‘our’. Wow! So many amazing people came together to make this magic happen. And it really is magical. The look on people’s faces as they experienced fungal communion for the first time was SO SWEET

Big, big thank you to Craig and the whole Arcadia team for being our partners on this!

Fabricator: Dian @iheartmachinist
Artwork by the incomparable @caro.arevalo
Timelapse videography by the magical @myco_motion
Cutting edge hyphal networks visualized by @spununderground (thank you Toby and Tom!!!)
Mushrooms by @auralisbotanical
Video mapping and animations by @laine_butler
Tech consultation: @ucodia
Creative direction: @viq.design
Endless advice @instruomodular
Team: @jessanderson._ @wenermgmt @midnightagencyinc
This whole installation runs on our little machine, the @pocketscion, heavily modded to run the lighting as well 🎛️

Wowowowowowowowowowowowow come see it before it’s gone.

What would an orchestra of plants sound like? 🪴🌱

Thanks to @instruomodular @pocketscion @modernbiology101 - we’ve been answering this question with a series of workshops at @fringebythesea festival in Scotland.

Musical Fun for all ages 💚 two more days to go! Book you slot in advance before they sell out

This one’s a bop!!! The mysterious and magical ghostpipe 👻 These amazing plants are mycoheterotrophs - like the pinesap plant i plugged into the other day - and FEED by stealing their carbon from fungi. Thus their deathly white colour - they don’t need that green chlorophyl to photosynthesize.

Here i’m using the @pocketscion to transform small electrical changes in the plant into music - and using the @korgofficial iwavestation app on my phone as the sound source.

What are you plugging into these days?

For your free Easter Lily ringtone or alarm, comment LILY. For hours of Lily for sleep, meditation, focus, play… click the link in my bio :)

Let me explain how this technology works:
Using specialized sensors, I can detect changes in those electrical signals and translate them into musical notes. The plant isn’t creating sound in the way we do—rather, the technology transforms the plant’s bioelectrical activity into music we can hear, offering a unique way to experience the living world around us. For this plant sound, I used the pocket Scion by the incredible @modernbiology101 and worked with @fairyduststudio__ for the magical sound design you hear.

What do you hear in the song of the Easter lily? ✨

Omg the smell the smell! Absolutely intoxicating!! I loveeee Easter lily so much!

This video was shot in the dead of winter in Canada so yes… these are indoor lilies. Outdoor wild lilies coming soon!!!

May we honor all living beings, big and small.

Lilacs in Berlin 💜🎶 I’m just home from our European tour and still recovering from the outrageous garden that Berlin is in the spring - lilacs, horse chestnut trees, rhodos and wisteria EVERYWHERE!

Here using the @pocketscion onboard sounds combined with the @moogsynthesizers animoog - all recorded in a @zoomsoundlab - super fun and portable biosonification setup ✨
