Finally figured out this set-up. Houseplant attached to sensors of the Pocket Scion which picks up electrical impulses from the plant leaf via sensors and is fed into Haze guitar pedal from Glitch Cloud Audio. Kind of has a certain gamelan quality. Me likey. I could listen to this all day. #peperomia @glitchcloudaudio @pocketscion

Boom Box Brownie update!

I’ve made an updated version of my sound camera experiment using an @instruomodular @pocketscion and a Kodak Box Brownie from 1926. The sound on the video was recorded straight from the Pocket Scion reading the light levels inside the camera.

Waypost 427
Mixed media, biodata sonification, live plants, light.

Waypost 427 is an interactive installation that converts the small electrical signals of living plants into ambient music and light. Based on the @pocketscion system, sensors interface with the plants at the base and three small processors convert this data into music in real time.

Designed to resemble a forgotten and weathered utility pole, the piece is topped by a street lamp displaying the ancient Ogham letter Úr, the Old Irish word for earth and soil. In Neo-spiritual practices this symbol stands for cycles of change, partnership, and the in-between spaces.

The installation asks the audience to slow down, listen, and notice how environmental changes affect the plants and the music.

Special thanks to @mrrfskrrt and @osmosis__world for hosting the first iteration of this work.

I love teaching! Check out some of these videos from a kindergarten presentation I recently gave.

🍄 We learned what mushrooms are, that they vary in shape, they breath air, have a skin, and not to pick mushrooms in the forest.

👂 We even got to listen to the mushrooms through this new device I bought called @pocketscion

Thank you for having me Loomis Grammar School!
