William Blake was an English poet, painter, and printmaker. Born into a working class family, Blake became a professional engraver and studied at the Royal Academy. Blake lived in London during a time of great social and political upheaval; he participated in the Gordon riots and maintained a friendship with American political firebrand Thomas Paine.

Blake's art and poetry was heavily influenced by his deeply idiosyncratic approach to religion and philosophy. He developed a mythology that rejected religious orthodoxy and emphasized a personal relationship between humans and the universe around them. He often claimed to have seen visions.

Blake's contemporaries thought he was a madman and his work attracted little notice during his lifetime. After his death, Blake's reputation steadily grew until he became one of the most acclaimed artists and writers in the history of English literature. This was largely due to the Romantic movement, which Blake is considered an important progenitor of.

I'm a big process nerd: Often, one of my favorite parts of the graphic novel is where the artist shares conceptual drawings alongside commentary. I love it when my favorite artists post their partially-completed work on social media. I like seeing how the creative sausage gets made.

So, I thought that I'd showcase a few such images. These pics document how I crafted the most recent page for @wretchedlydia. I'll make similar posts if you all react well to this one. by @poetry_comix

Sorry to blind you, but I decided to do my poetry reading right in the middle of putting on makeup for some gay shit I was doing later. It seemed like a natural thing to do at the time.

I wanted to appreciate the autumnal foliage before the rains came in, so I took a brief sojourn to the Mill Pond in Danvers. This is by the Peabody Institute Library, which was my childhood library. My Mom used to take me and my siblings here when I was a toddler; we would roll down the hills, feed the ducks, and take out videos that would invariably end up being either The Last Unicorn, It's the Easter Beagle, Charlie Brown, The Wizard of Oz, or Halloween is Grinch Night.

I'm sure that you're unsurprised to learn that I was a weird little kid who went through an intense Greek mythology phase. This is where that happened.

It's Wretched Wednesday yet again, so I have a new @wretchedreels comic starring @wretchedlydia.

If you possess any of the same nerd energy as me, you know that the splash image is "inspired" by the Taarna segment of the 1981 Heavy Metal film. Taarna herself is derived from Arzach, an acclaimed fantasy comic by Heavy Metal co-founder Jean "Moebius" Giraud.

Lydia is extremely fond of Heavy Metal, so this was meant to be a little treat for them.

Arthur Peterson was an American poet and editor. In addition to supervising The Saturday Evening Post for a time, Peterson composed works like Sigurd: A Poem (1910) and Andvari's Ring (1916).

This is an ever-mutating poem by @lesbianboygirlfriend. It's inspired by conversations they have with the patients at their job. I find this poem very moving and I was thrilled when Noah let me turn it into a comic. The work includes several things I drew while I was sectioned, so there is some legit "psych ward art" in this post.

I've recited the piece at a few live events, occasionally with the artwork projected behind me as I read. Reception has been positive so far, so making a short internet video seemed like the next logical step.

Thanks again to Noah for letting me collab.

I am such a hopeless dork for fresh fruit that I went apple picking for a second time this Fall. This time I went to @boston.hill.farm in Andover. They had McIntosh and Jonagold.

I already baked a crisp with some of them. I'm thinking muffins with one or two more.

The third and final page of @wretchedlydia's review of Chopping Mall. Since I began with an EC homage, I decided to conclude with one as well. The final panel is a swipe of the cover to Tales From the Crypt no. 39. I doubt it will surprise you to hear that Jack Davis is my favorite of the EC artists.

I'll be starting a brand new @wretchedreels comic this time next Wretched Wednesday.

A diary comic about my failed attempts to mitigate my spiral.

I skipped over posting three diary comics between this one and the last one. They're all a little too personal to post on here. I haven't even been able to ink and color one of them; looking back at the words I wrote back then still feel me with guilt and shame.

So yeah, I don't know how many of these pages I'll be willing to post.

Matsuo Bashō is almost synonymous with haiku (called hokku during his era). He supported himself as a teacher and made his name in Tokyo's literary circles, but he ultimately rejected urban life in order to wander through the country. His firsthand experiences with the Japanese wilderness had a profound effect on his work.

Many of Matsuo Bashō's haiku have become famous, but he was most proud of his efforts in renku (linked verse poetry). His poems are noted for their ability to capture the essence of their subject in a few simple lines.

The watercolor paintings in this piece are derived from an exhibition of Florida's Highwaymen painters that I saw at the @addisongalleryofamericanart
