A PSA for today.

Don’t accept any friend requests from “me”, because it’s not me. I’m not on the socials much at the moment and I’m not sending friend requests out.

If you get a friend request from someone you know, especially if you are already friends on social media, it’s safe to assume it’s a spoof page trying to get you to friend it so they can send you a message that often has a link, and that like probably has malware. So accept friend requests with caution and look at the page sending you the request.

And Mahalo to Anne’s cousin for bringing this to our attention. The page on top is me, the other Tom Pohaku Stone is a fake and I’ll be reporting it soon. by @pohatu

My wood pile is alive and in motion again. Retuning my mind, body, and spirit. It’s a process that takes time to heal. But I’m still here and loving it. Getting myself back to 🌊. 🤙🏾 by @pohatu

Tom “Pohaku” Stone says surfing is an extension of Native Hawaiians’ deep cultural relationship with the ocean and the Hawaiʻi’s environment.

Storms that form in the Central North Pacific between 140West longitude and the 180th meridian are assigned culturally significant Hawaiian names, and did you know Lala is a surfing term? She certainly lived up to her name by diagonally sliding past all the islands and affecting the entire state. We spent 37 hours without power, but thankfully that was the worst of it for us. Many families on Hawai’i Island are facing much more difficult circumstances, and hurricane season is far from over so continue to be makaʻala and look out for our communities. The last bit is just Kawika filling his time making a kukuʻi from actual kuku’i, a fun little project for him that actually gave off really good light. by @pohatu

Received a beautiful island style gift yesterday, 7 lbs of Kauaʻi paʻakai. It was perfect timing because I was almost out. Want to give a big shoutout to @kainamakua and the ladies of @Kilohanahoewaa, they came by the house yesterday to pick up the papahōlua I made for them as part of a fundraiser to help them get to the World Sprints that are happening in Singapore this year. These young ladies are hammas, winning their division at states and competing in the Dad Center Race today going from Kailua to Waikīkī. Good luck everyone in the race and mahalo again for the pa’akai! #papaholua #holua #hoewaa #ImuaKilohana by @pohatu

Publishing August 4th. Pre-order now! Every chapter in this book was an adventure. And this was one of my favorites– meeting one of the best, and most influential board-makers in the world, Pohakua Stone. His work goes much deeper than simply being about a board and a wave. It is about his connection to his kupuna and the past. I felt privileged to include his work and his words, in our new book on the history of Hawaiian Surf Culture, NALU. 🤙 #surfing #clarksonpotter #surfboard #nalu #Hawaii by @pohatu

Yep, I pretty much disappeared from media platforms. It’s been a wild journey for me through the year. After surgery and trying not to over extend myself physically, while dealing with a crazy rainy spring and early summer I decided I needed to move these two boards down to the wood pile. Of course, our place is muddy with a slope. One misstep while shoulder carrying one of those 120 lbs. board and twist ever slightly everything goes to shit just to save the board. Well, MRI on Monday and I’ll know if I tore or fractured something. Been on crutches for over a month, fluid extraction from my hip and hoping it’s just a muscle strain. Anyway, gearing up for summer weather. Resetting the wood pile and catching up on projects shortly. Let’s hope I’m back surfing soon. But, I’m sure 👍🏾 it will be worth all this BS. 😎🤙🏾🌊 by @pohatu

I haven’t been on social media for a while by choice. It’s been nice to take a break from things. The weather has also forced me to take some down time from work, thankfully, while it’s been very wet at our place, we didn’t have flooding that other parts of the islands have had to deal with. These down times allow room to think creatively. While cleaning up the workspace after all the rain, I came up with an idea for a new project using a bunch of left over pieces of wood. I hate getting rid of scraps, I always say I can make something with it. Looks like I’m finally following through on that. In the end why waste material, we work with what we have to create a ride to enjoy. I’ve got a few things that are near to completion, so I’m using this excitement of trying something different to help push me through what’s turned into a bit a work slump. Wish me luck! by @pohatu
