Lamentation over the Dead Christ

It is located in the main chapel of the Church of Santa Maria della Vita, Bologna.

This climatic portrayal of raw grief and death was commissioned by the brotherhood of the Battuti Bianchi around 1463 and consists of a group of life-sized figures – the Madonna and the Three Marys, St John the Apostle and Joseph of Arimathea – weeping over the dead body of Christ, which is laid out between them ready for deposition in the tomb.

The material used to create these figures is terracotta; many Madonna are serene, yet this Madonna is screaming at the world in torment at human beings' inhumanity to one another.

Hind Rajab was a 6-year-old Palestinian girl who was trapped in the car bedside of her family, who were killed instantly in an assault by tanks in Tel al-Hawa. Hind waited to be saved by the Red Crescent ambulance drivers, who, along with Hind Rajab, were killed.

Hersh Goldberg-Polin, an Israeli American, was kidnapped on the 7th of October. Hersh's arm was blown off during the kidnapping, and his family still do not know his state of health.

Hate is easy; if you look at who you pertain to hate and those you dehumanise, look in the mirror; you are looking at your enemy.

Palestine children need a future without war, safety, statehood, and their history and heritage celebrated.

Israeli children need a future without perpetual wars, safety, and their journey understood.

The Ballad of the Heck Horse

Inspired by the unique and now extinct wild horse, the Tarpan, the Heck brothers tried to replicate this pure breed in their Heck horses. Tragically, the Heck horse met its untimely demise at the end of World War II, when most were shipped from their native Bialowieza Forest in Poland to Berlin, where they were killed for food by starving Russian forces. The ballad ends with Russia invading Hungary in 1956.

Heck

Strong, small and gentle by nature, the Heck horse was created by zoologists and Third Reich members Lutz and Heinz Heck for Hitler’s hunting lodges in World War II.

Yinka Shonibare's work at the Seraphine Gallery makes your heart sing and cry. He discusses how he addresses the spaces in which refugees and migrants are excluded. His narrative must be heard loud and clear. It is beautiful, heartbreaking, and unique.

Smocked

I visited @the.merl yesterday, The Museum of English Rural Life at the University of Reading, this week for my residency at The Jelly Studio in the Broad Street Mall, Reading.

A stunning museum and understated, it doesn't just focus on rural life in and around Reading but across the countryside and weaving crafts from my local area to Hope Farm in Kent.

The clothing drew my attention because of their beauty; people smocked and embroidered their work clothes carefully. They needed them to last; it is quite poignant when we think of the world of fast fashion, and these smocked clothes seem to defy the nature of fast fashion. These workers had pride in who they were and what they did.
