Together with more than 100 contributors, we’re proud to have developed the UK’s first ever Democratic Education Framework. The Framework is now being piloted before its official launch in Spring 2027, and we’re inviting teachers in England and Northern Ireland to help test out the new Framework.

By taking part in the pilot, you will:

What does a day in the life of a TPP Youth Steering Group member look like, through their own lens? 🎥

Niamh took over the camera when the whole YSG came together in person at the start of summer, capturing what a day of workshops, discussion and getting stuck in together actually looks like.

Big thanks to @advocacyacademy for hosting us and letting the YSG take over your space for the day 🙌

‘What would you prioritise as Prime Minister?’ 🤔

As @andy.burnham takes over as the UK’s new prime minister, we’re throwing it back to one of our #DigitalDialogues he joined as Mayor of Greater Manchester in 2018.

He sat down with students from @mellandhighschool, @ladybridgehighschool and @aggschool, taking on all their toughest questions, including what he’d prioritise if he were PM.

His answer? Young people, and making sure they’re supported.

Want your students asking the questions that matter to real decision-makers? Sign up for a #DigitalDialogue via the link in our bio 🔗

A year ago today, as the government announced it would lower the voting age to 16, we launched the Roadmap to Votes at 16.

📘 Supported by 40 organisations across the @Democracyclassroom Network, the Roadmap set out recommendations to make lowering the voting age meaningful:

1️⃣ Establish a minimum entitlement to democratic education
2️⃣ Support educators and youth practitioners to deliver excellent democratic education
3️⃣ Modernise the curriculum
4️⃣ Expand opportunities for young people to engage, lead and influence
5️⃣ Support campaigns to encourage youth engagement

A year on, here’s what’s happened since:
The bill lowering the voting age was introduced to parliament in FebruaryThe Curriculum and Assessment Review committed to strengthening media literacy and making Citizenship education statutory in primary schoolsThe Department for Education’s new Enrichment Framework named Civic Engagement as one of the five key areas to support schools and colleges inThe Government’s Youth Strategy promised to ensure young people have the support they need to engage in democracyA new inquiry from the APPG for Schools, Learning and Assessment drew on our recommendationsThe Roadmap has been downloaded over 3000 timesA speaker in the Canadian Senate gave a shout-out to the Roadmap
🔗 Click the link in our bio to read the full Roadmap!

The Roadmap to Votes at 16 was funded by the UK Democracy Fund and coordinated by The Politics Project.

Youth Steering Group 25/6 🤩

Last week, we held our last YSG meeting of the academic year. We covered a range of important topics, including the social media ban: how our YSG felt about it, the pros, the cons, and what they would do differently 🤔

And of course, no meeting is complete without a few rounds of games - Imposter and the Councillor Game were our highlights 🎲

Thanks to all of you for an incredible year!

2025/26 YSG HIGHLIGHTS 😮‍💨💥

We had an incredible day with our Youth Steering Group, reflecting on everything they’ve achieved over the last year!

Just some of our highlights:
👉 You shared your experiences of PSHE in schools and where democratic education should sit in the curriculum — which fed into our written evidence for the Youth Select Committee’s PSHE inquiry. We were quoted in it!
👉 You told us what works (and what doesn’t) when engaging with politicians, shaping our newest practitioner training, Conversations with Politicians
👉 YSG members took the lead facilitating events, including a roundtable with Democracy Minister Samantha Dixon MP and the @democracyclassroom Strategy Day

Swipe for what everyone picked out as their highlight ➡️

Thank you all for your incredible work this year, we can’t wait for the next! 🙏
