Eventually, you’re going to be the reason something went wrong. 🔧 Wrong part. Broken bolt. Bad decision. It happens.
What matters is what comes next.
I want my boys to understand that being a man doesn’t mean pretending you never mess up. It means having enough character to say, “That was me. I messed up. Now let me make it right.”
The garage might teach that lesson with a broken bolt.
Life will eventually test it with something much bigger.

There’s something about that first cool Saturday in the garage. 🍂🔧
Door up. Hoodie on. Football playing somewhere in the background. Kids running in and out while you're finally knocking out everything you've been putting off.
Check the tires.
Top off the fluids.
Test the battery.
Replace the worn-out wipers.
Clean up the garage before winter.
None of it is exciting.
But that's kind of the point.
A lot of being Dad is taking care of things before everybody else realizes they need taking care of.
And while the kids might think Dad is just messing with the car again, they're watching how you operate.
Don't ignore the little problem until it becomes a big one.
Don't wait until you're stranded to prepare.
Don't wait until something matters to start taking care of it.
That lesson works on a lot more than cars.
Preparation is part of providing. 🏁

I can teach my boys a lot. But maybe one of the most important things I can teach them is that Dad doesn’t know everything.

There will always be somebody who knows something you don’t. Ask the question. Grab the manual. Call the friend who’s done it before. Listen and learn.

Being a capable man isn’t pretending you have every answer. It’s being willing to find one.

One day, he won’t need to borrow Dad’s tools.

He’ll have his own box.

His own 10mm sockets to lose. 😂

His own projects that run three hours longer than expected.

Maybe even his own garage with little hands reaching into his toolbox asking:

“Dad, can I help?”

And that's when it comes full circle.

Because before he knew what a ratchet was… before he could tell a Phillips from a flathead… before he could even reach the workbench…

he had you.

So give him a wrench.

Let him get his hands dirty.

Let that first tool mean something.

Because we're not just passing down tools.

We're passing down what Dad taught us to do with them. 🔧🏁

Tools wear out. Lessons don't.
