🔧 **GARAGE LESSON #16 — MORE PRESSURE ISN'T ALWAYS BETTER**

Ever tightened a bolt just a little too much?

One more turn. A little more muscle.

Then... **SNAP.** 💥

Now you've got a bigger problem than the one you started with.

Funny thing is, we sometimes do the same thing with our kids.

We push them to be stronger. Tougher. Smarter. Better than we were.

And there's nothing wrong with wanting more for them.

But somewhere between teaching them to be strong and expecting them to be strong, we forget something...

**They're still learning. They're still growing. They're still kids.**

I want my boys to know I'll always push them to be their best.

But I never want them to feel like their best isn't good enough.

Because the goal isn't to raise boys who are afraid to disappoint Dad.

**It's to raise men who aren't afraid to try, fail, and get back up.**

The garage taught me something fatherhood keeps reminding me...

**RAISE THE STANDARD. NOT THE PRESSURE.** 🔧

👇 **Dads, what's one thing you've had to learn to ease up on since becoming a father?**

Every garage has a project that was supposed to take “a couple hours.” 😂🔧

Then the wrong part shows up.

A bolt snaps.

You realize you need a tool you don’t own.

Saturday turns into Sunday… and suddenly walking away sounds pretty good.

That’s usually when the real lesson starts.

Because our kids don't need to grow up believing Dad never gets frustrated or never wants to quit.

They need to see what happens **after** that.

Come back tomorrow.
Figure out the problem.
Clean up the mistake.
Turn the last bolt.

Anybody can be excited at the beginning.

Learning to finish when the excitement is gone—that’s different.

And someday it won't be Dad's project car.

It'll be school.
A job.
A goal.
Something they promised somebody they'd do.

Hopefully they'll remember all those Saturdays when Dad could've left the car sitting on jack stands…

…but went back into the garage anyway.

**Motivation starts the job. Discipline finishes it.** 🏁

🔧 **GARAGE DADS, YOUR TURN:**

What's the longest a “weekend project” has ever had your car stuck in the garage? 😂

A day? A week? Six months?

Tell the truth below. 👇🏽

Sometimes it would be a whole lot faster to say, “Just give me the wrench.” 😂
But faster isn’t the point.
Let them ask the hundred questions. Let them turn the wrench. Let them struggle with it a little. And when they ask why, take the time to explain it.
Because I’m not trying to raise boys who only know how to follow Dad’s instructions.
I’m trying to raise men who can think, make decisions, solve problems and do the right thing when Dad isn’t standing beside them anymore.
One day I won’t be holding the wrench.
They will. 🔧

What’s something your dad—or another man who helped raise you—taught you that you’re determined to pass down to your kids? 👇🏽

Every garage dad eventually learns this one the hard way.
Rush the job and you strip the bolt.
Skip a step and you do it twice.
Get frustrated and suddenly the 30-minute repair has taken the entire Saturday. 😂🔧
Some things just need time.
That's a lesson our kids are going to need long after they stop hanging around Dad's garage.
You won't master everything on the first try.
You won't always get what you want immediately.
And sometimes the smartest thing you can do is slow down, let the process work, and try again when you're ready.
The garage has taught me plenty about cars.
But some of its best lessons have nothing to do with them.
Patience builds better results.
Same lesson in the garage.
Same lesson in life. 🏁

Garage dads, be honest: what repair taught YOU to stop rushing? Drop the story below. 👇🏽 Bonus points if it involved a broken bolt or missing 10mm. 😂

Most expensive problems don’t start expensive. They start small—and get ignored. 🔧
The garage teaches my boys to pay attention before something breaks. But someday I hope they understand I wasn’t only talking about cars.
Take care of your home. Your relationships. Your responsibilities. Your money. The people who depend on you.
Don’t wait until something is falling apart before deciding it matters.

What’s one thing in LIFE you’ve learned is easier to maintain than repair? 👇🏽

Not every trip to the garage needs a project. 🍂
Sometimes the tools stay in the box.
Garage door up. Football on. Something warm to drink. Kids hanging around Dad with absolutely nowhere we need to be.
And somehow, those are the moments when they start talking.
About school. Their friends. Something they're excited about. Something that's bothering them. Or complete nonsense that somehow turns into a 20-minute conversation. 😂
We spend so much time trying to do things for our kids that it's easy to overlook how much they need us to simply sit with them.
No lesson planned.
No project to finish.
No phone in your hand.
Just Dad being there.
The garage doesn't always have to build cars.
Sometimes it builds the relationship. 🔧🍂

Finish this sentence in the comments: “The best conversation I ever had with my dad was about ______.”

🎃 Weekend Garage Roll Call is back.
And since October is here, we’re starting with a question every garage dad can answer:
What’s haunting your garage? 👻
That repair you keep putting off.
The parts still sitting in boxes.
That mystery noise you keep pretending isn’t there.
Or the project that was supposed to be “cheap.” 😂
Real life gets busy. Work, kids, family, everything else. Sometimes the garage project waits.
But eventually… the ghost comes back. 🔧
👇 ROLL CALL: What’s haunting your garage right now?

Drop yours in the comments, then tag another garage dad whose project has been sitting way too long. 😂

Eventually, you’re going to be the reason something went wrong. 🔧 Wrong part. Broken bolt. Bad decision. It happens.
What matters is what comes next.
I want my boys to understand that being a man doesn’t mean pretending you never mess up. It means having enough character to say, “That was me. I messed up. Now let me make it right.”
The garage might teach that lesson with a broken bolt.
Life will eventually test it with something much bigger.

Dads—what’s a mistake you made that ended up teaching you something you still carry today? 👇🏽

There’s something about that first cool Saturday in the garage. 🍂🔧
Door up. Hoodie on. Football playing somewhere in the background. Kids running in and out while you're finally knocking out everything you've been putting off.
Check the tires.
Top off the fluids.
Test the battery.
Replace the worn-out wipers.
Clean up the garage before winter.
None of it is exciting.
But that's kind of the point.
A lot of being Dad is taking care of things before everybody else realizes they need taking care of.
And while the kids might think Dad is just messing with the car again, they're watching how you operate.
Don't ignore the little problem until it becomes a big one.
Don't wait until you're stranded to prepare.
Don't wait until something matters to start taking care of it.
That lesson works on a lot more than cars.
Preparation is part of providing. 🏁

Garage dads: what's the ONE thing you always check when the weather starts cooling down? 🔧🍂
Drop yours below—somebody reading the comments might remember something they forgot.

Not the drain plug... Ft: @polowbear

I can teach my boys a lot. But maybe one of the most important things I can teach them is that Dad doesn’t know everything.

There will always be somebody who knows something you don’t. Ask the question. Grab the manual. Call the friend who’s done it before. Listen and learn.

Being a capable man isn’t pretending you have every answer. It’s being willing to find one.

Who’s the person YOU call when you need another set of hands or some advice? Tag them. 👇🏽

One day, he won’t need to borrow Dad’s tools.

He’ll have his own box.

His own 10mm sockets to lose. 😂

His own projects that run three hours longer than expected.

Maybe even his own garage with little hands reaching into his toolbox asking:

“Dad, can I help?”

And that's when it comes full circle.

Because before he knew what a ratchet was… before he could tell a Phillips from a flathead… before he could even reach the workbench…

he had you.

So give him a wrench.

Let him get his hands dirty.

Let that first tool mean something.

Because we're not just passing down tools.

We're passing down what Dad taught us to do with them. 🔧🏁

Tools wear out. Lessons don't.

What was the first tool your dad gave you—or what tool will you give your kid first? Tell me below. 👇🏽 And send this to the dad who taught you how to use one.
