DJ TAKEOVER: POOR RIDLEY 🍐

Local pop punk/rock outfit Poor Ridley is the project of Ridley Tankersley. His latest album, “Songs I Wrote,” is a collection of songs he wrote over a period of eight years.

While Tankersley has been the backbone of this project since its inception, Collin Papenfuss and Brian Hospital have completed the current iteration of the band, bringing the music to live audiences at local venues near you.

Tankersley’s songwriting is clever, absurd and incredibly wise. His lyrics are met with songs full of tonal shifts, high tempos, complete conviction and a type of composition that reaches inside you and flips a switch.

🎈What’s up world! Proud and pleased today to present to you with the amazing lyric video for ‘Singing Never,’ made by the very talented @poor_ridley 🎈

The attention and care he put into this has completely blown me away (no balloon pun intended), and the execution of this wonderful concept is 🎯. When I first saw it I went like this 🥹🥹🥹 and I hope you will, too!

‘Singing Never’ (out now) is the second single from forthcoming record ‘PARTNER’ which will be out everywhere on Oct 28 via @crutchofmemory. This video now lives on their YouTube channel (link in bio) along with some other great Crutch content… check it out!

The song was performed by myself, @josh_evert_ and @ell.ejackson. Mixed & mastered at @silvercitystudios. The video is all Ridley!

DJ TAKEOVER: Poor Ridley on Wed., Aug. 5 from 4-5 p.m.

Poor Ridley is a musical ensemble fronted by Ridley Tankersley, an artist and musician from Phoenix, AZ. After living ten years in Appleton, Wisconsin, during which he joined the band Dusk on bass guitar, he relocated to Milwaukee in 2024.

The band will be performing at MKE Ultra on Sun., Aug. 9 with Pebbles Inc and Winefred RT.

Tune in for the DJ Takeover tomorrow on 88.9FM, at RadioMilwaukee.org and in the Radio Milwaukee app.

“Songs I Wrote” is two years old today, but really it’s like 10 or 11 years old. The oldest song on the record is “Simpler Simon”, which I wrote circa 2014 on a ukulele in my childhood bedroom lol. But, like most of the other songs, it really took shape over the next decade as I recorded and overdubbed and trashed it all and rerecorded, etc.

Throughout the album, there are bits of guitar tracks that I recorded years before the drum tracks that ended up alongside them, and vice versa. Kind of like in “Eraserhead”, where some scenes that appear back-to-back were actually shot months to years apart. Sewn together from scraps and brought to life, this record is my beautiful monster.

So many people have supported me while those songs were forming in my mind, then on the instruments and eventually on the computer. If you knew me 2013-2024, chances are there’s a piece of you on the record, as indirectly sourced as it may be. I probably don’t even realize it and I can’t possibly name everyone for that reason, but I’ll name some that I owe a great deal of my artistic sensibilities and philosophy to, semi-chronologically.

Mom, Dad and Ian; Noah, Will, Fez and the other wild firth boys; Gil, Gabriel, Willa, Gus, Miles, Spencer, Sam P. and Stacey (Sk8 City); Johnie S. and Elizabeth C.; Ryley, Julia, Amos, Tyler, Bill and everyone in the COM/Dusk multi-verse; Luke, Jake, Paul, Antone, Collin, Caley, Graham, Chloe; and of course my always-supporter and sweetheart Chelsea.

Thank you to Collin, Sahan, Steve and Brian for devoting so much time to playing in my band. Thank you anyone who has listened and attended a show, purchased a CD or shirt, donated to the gas fund, hosted me on tour, all that stuff. Thanks!!!!
