POSTS STORIES REELS

the end of this video melts me 🥹 may not be a hugger, but hugs (four-12 to be precise) are very good for you and getting a big ol’ room full of people to hug (after getting them to let rip and scream in poem one too) is really quite special…

a silly little poem i wrote and performed after getting @spitnights and @calmzone together for a very special night 💙

thank you to the wonderful @tyronelewiscreative for capturing such joy and @dannymash_ for sharing a hug at the end too 💫

"My mums birthday wish was to D1e" - Poppy's View From A Bridge @poppyelizab
.
Poppy’s VFAB was recorded in March when a small number of opponents were obstructing the assisted dying bill’s progress in the UK's House of Lords. It ran out of time to become law in Spring, but as of last month it’s back before MPs and has another chance at passing into law... What do you think the outcome should / will be ?

Please watch this incredible video from @poppyelizab

Poppy’s mum died in August earlier this year after three years of fighting pancreatic cancer - despite being told she’d have a year ‘if lucky’.

Those three years gave them precious time they never expected but Poppy’s mum’s final days were harrowing.

If Poppy’s mum could’ve chosen, she wouldn’t have died the way she did.

Poppy is now fighting for change in her mum’s memory: “There’s no dignity in dying a death so shrouded in pain.”

the ‘oooo’ set of my internal panic alarm…

walked into a poetry night and decided to… diss a group of poets?

i joke. this was not my intention. at all. i wrote this poem earlier that same day on the bus. it’s a questioning of social media, trends, and why we post online - why we share poetry online specifically, how to navigate that why, and not letting social media dictate our use poetry, but utilising social media to empower our poetry

thoughts..?

Still buzzing from hosting my second (sold out?!!) Raw Talk event!!

I had the BEST time chatting to the brilliant @poppyelizab about how generation “hopeless” can become generation hopeful.

We talked about why being young can feel so overwhelming right now, from the 24/7 news cycle and social media comparison machine to the feeling that the traditional life plan of a job, a house and a bit of security is increasingly out of reach. We got into hitting rock bottom, the shame that can come with struggling when you look perfectly fine on the outside, and why it can still feel so difficult to tell the people closest to us that we’re not okay.

But, most importantly, we talked about hope. Not the glossy, 5am-rise-and-optimise-your-life kind, but the real sort. Finding joy in the small things, being brave enough to tell people how we’re feeling, doing things that make us feel more alive, and remembering that we don’t have to have everything figured out.

I loved loved loved the second half of the night which was an anonymous Q&A. There’s something rather wonderful about a room full of people willing to be honest about the bits of life we usually try to hide, asking the questions we might otherwise keep to ourselves and making one another feel a little less alone. A reminder that we’re all in this wild west of a world together.

A huge thank you to everyone who came, to Poppy for being so open and brilliant, and to @thehaggerston for having us. I honestly couldn’t have asked for a better evening ❤️‍🔥

And if you’d like to get involved in Raw Talk, I’d LOVE to hear from you. Whether there’s a topic you think we should be talking about, a story you’d like to share, someone brilliant you think I should speak to, or you simply fancy coming along to the next event, drop me a DM.

Raw Talk is all about me (and my guest) going first in the hope that someone else feels able to talk about that tabbo-ey thing to someone else after. The more we talk, the less alone we feel. Here’s to more of that! by @poppyelizab

wrote a poem, performed the poem, and now the poem is in print in a BOOK?!!! eek!

very surreal. feel very lucky.

within ‘A Pocketful of Silence, Trace, Shadow, and Longing’ and in Volume II on page 149 is one of my poems!?

titled ‘Where Do They Go?’ I wrote this poem shortly after losing my mum last year. it explores my questioning of where someone goes when they die and how I find comfort knowing she’s still with me.

a huge thank you to The Hope Collective, National Poetry Centre and the NHS South West Yorkshire Partnership Teaching for selecting my poem out of a whopping nearly 650!

here’s to maybe writing a whole book one day 🫶🏼

latest piece for the amazing @stylistmagazine 🫶🏼

(here’s a brief overview in pics and sentences. fyi, these are not words copied from the real piece, so go pay for it and support journalists and outlets’ work - times are tough, we need it! link in bio!)

it’s been a huge goal of mine to write something for stylist since going freelance in january, so i am super chuffed.

a huge thank you to the wonderful @amy.beecham for commissioning and the incredible @alipantony for taking such time and care, and showing such kindness, during the editing process 💫

We’re back, baby!

Off the back of the success of my inaugural Raw Talk live event at the start of the summer, we’re going to be back on the sofa at @thehaggerston on Thursday 15th October.

And this time, freelance writer, performer and mental health campaigner @poppyelizab will be joining me.

I was completely blown away by the response to my essay Everybody’s Vaping, But I’m Still Smoking back in February, which explored my experience of depression and what it feels like to be the odd one out (Turns out, quite a few of us are secretly odd ones out). So, I wanted to take the conversation offline and host a live talk where we can discuss what it’s like to feel different, disconnected or like you’re somehow getting life very wrong. By sharing our experiences and opening the room up to anonymous questions, we hope to make you feel a little less alone.

Whether you’re some who is a cup half empty, have a friend or loved one who is, or you’re simply interested in the slightly messy business of being human, please do come along!

Link in bio for more tickets and info.

Can’t wait to see you there xx by @poppyelizab

Assisted dying is once again being debated in parliament. In today's episode of the AVFAB Podcast (available on all podcast networks) Poppy shares her own personal experiences around what the bill means to her, and what it might have meant to her mum ❤️☎️ by @poppyelizab

“She would have wanted to go if she had had the choice.”

Despite receiving the best hospice-care, Poppy watched her mum die a painful, drawn-out death from pancreatic cancer. She is now fighting for change in her mum’s memory.

MPs must listen to stories like Poppy’s, and back the assisted dying bill. by @poppyelizab

There’s something really special about being around people who just get it 🤍

People you don’t have to explain your grief to, who understand the good days and the difficult ones, who know that moving forward doesn’t mean leaving someone behind.

This poem from @poppyelizab captures so beautifully what we’ve seen through the power of community in grief.

And with National Grief Awareness Day tomorrow, maybe that’s part of what grief awareness can be.

Making a little more space for grief to exist openly, for people to talk about the person they miss if they want to, and for more people to feel understood in whatever their grief looks like.

Because sometimes we don’t need someone to have the right words.

We just need to know we’re not alone. 🤍🪽
