A truly incredible show last night: Riot Grrrl's Not Dead DC!, headlined by the amazing Buko Buko but also featuring dynamite sets by Ammonite, Sheila and Bitter Tits (Cat Crash, sadly, couldn't play)... benefiting Survivors.org at Songbyrd. Please check out this video w/ part of a truly incredible version of Bikini Kill's "Rebel Girl" with Buko Buko's Becc handing mic to Augusta from Petrichor (as well as other members of the audience)... this performance gave us chills, no joke. 💓 AND made us even more determined to fight the powers that be! 🔥@bukobukoband @sheilatheband @ammoniteband @bitter_tits @songbyrddc @survivorsdotorg @thiscouldgoboom @riotdcfest @mac.n.toss @petrichordc @theebikinikill @mskathleenhanna @kathiwilcox by @positiveforcedc

Today we are entering the fourth year in a row under the weight of war, shelling and continuous starvation on Gaza. Three full years have passed, and extermination and obscene high-proofs continue to pursue every detail in our daily lives.

I share this video with you to see the reality as it is; I still live with my family and thousands of families inside these tents that do not keep free or cold. Living here is an unbearable daily suffering; in winter we drown in mud and water, and in summer we suffocate inside fabrics that burn with the flames of the sun.

I wanted the world to know that we are still living these woes, and that the story is not over yet.

Don’t make the scene get used to forgetting our pain. Keep us in your thoughts and present in your hearts, and do not forget us. by @positiveforcedc

Over the weekend, DC punks returned to the National Mall for a benefit show supporting DC Ward 1 Mutual Aid @dcw1mutualaid, the first show of its kind since Fugazi last played the Sylvan Theater in 1995. DC punk band Glitterer headlined, with special guests Posición Unida and Somebody's Daughter.

Co-organizer Caroline Liaupsin took to the stage before the bands to give her remarks, noting that this is not the beginning or the end of punk taking over the Mall. It's as good of a time as ever to reclaim this space and demonstrate the power of community.

Thank you to Mark Andersen of @positiveforcedc for giving a speech before Glitterer took the stage, providing context for our current moment, and that Fugazi show thirty some years ago.

Thanks to @diynotshow/@sourcaroline_l for having me photograph and @thievesden.diy for organizing, thanks to everyone who volunteers to make these events happen, and thanks to the real ones for being there in the rain.

On a personal note, after photographing America 250 extensively this past July, it was really great to be in a space on the National Mall that represented the good of DC that brings us as people together who love music, hardcore, and DIY. taken in Washington, DC by @positiveforcedc

39 years ago... Fugazi played its first show, a PF benefit for the State of the Union compilation, then in process. There are no photos from that night that we are aware of, but this photo by Bert Quieroz captures Ian still with shoulder length hair. This was their second show, w/ Guy as roadie, not yet in the band. The beginning of something immense and incredibly resonant... ❤️🔥 w/ love to Ian, Guy, Joe, and Brendan. by @positiveforcedc

Volunteering with @wearefamilydc
We Are Family mobilizes a committed corps of volunteers to reach out to isolated inner-city seniors with free services, advocacy, and companionship, building a network of caring eyes and ears that enables at-risk seniors to age in place.

You can volunteer to deliver groceries any Saturday. It’s just a few hours & it makes a huge difference to seniors in our community.
