Another double barline to top off my most productive year yet. I’m so grateful to @alexchoral for commissioning this work. I was originally hesitant to write a choral piece in Arabic but after speaking to some of the other members and seeing just how rare this language is in the choral world, I decided to use this commission as a chance to share one of my favorite quotes from the Sheikh Al-Akhbar Ibn Arabi: ادين بدين الحب انى توجهت ركائبه فالحب ديني و اماني If you're in NoVa or DC be sure to check out the premiere of this piece October 24 at the Masonic Memorial Temple by @postarabesque

So grateful and honored to have been part of the PluComp composer residency at @duvertalinfini. It was an amazing week learning about Persian and Turkish musical traditions while writing for such an amazing group of performers. Thanks so much to @shahab_paranj for organizing everything and hosting us. Also to @erberk.eryilmaz and Dr. Reza Vali for teaching us. And to the amazing performers maestro Khosro @sophie_c41 @monpuo @gkbrkerylmz @kimiajamshid @melikamasoudi_ . Last Saturday, I presented my very first piano recital and I couldn't be happier with how it turned out! Thank you so much to everyone that showed up as we explored music that teaches us about love, attachment, loss and managing grief in a world that won't stop moving. The dress code was funeral-chic and everyone came PREPARED. Thanks so much to my sister @nadinemaysaud for doing the sacrificial ritual, to my mom for preparing the incredible food and staging, and to all of my patrons on Patreon for helping me make this happen! If you got FOMO reading this, well just wait until you see the last pic 😉

Hi all, I made a series of stories yesterday off the cuff but I think the message is important to share. Long story short, I’ve been really disappointed in the music field’s willingness to simply pick and choose which minorities deserve a spotlight and turn a blind eye towards others. If you ever thought of commissioning me, now’s the time to do it. I have something to say, and people need to hear it. by @postarabesque

I set myself up for some very ambitious goals this year, include to compose way more - enough that it's gonna demand much less screen time and more daily commitment. This means I'm even busier but I have no regrets, nothing ever beats sitting at the desk with a pen and nothing but your own thoughts. And this isn't just any dainty music this year either, started with a samai mahur in 3 simultaneous voices, and now I'm working on a fugue in Rast, and scribbling piano ideas as they come. #maqam #composer #writer #art #screendetox by @postarabesque

Last week I had the extraordinary pleasure to workshop and hear my piece "Lot's Kiss" for Saxophone and electronics with the amazing @nickmaysax in Kansas City! It's a really heavy piece that asked a lot of both me and Nick, but the effect was really beautiful and stunning. I also got the chance to play a bit of piano in random places. Definitely an heartbreaking beautiful piece, that fuses microtonality, Arabic maqam scales, and jazz (wait for the microtonal blues lick ™).
