Barbadian Soca artiste Hypasounds is sounding the alarm over a growing impersonation scam involving fake social media accounts allegedly using his identity, images and content to deceive members of the public and conduct business under his name.

In a video posted to his official Instagram page, the artiste appealed directly to his fans, event promoters and corporate companies to exercise extreme caution when receiving communication from accounts claiming to represent him.

“Hey guys, Hypasounds on the check in, the last few has been crazy, I am asking you guys to please please please be careful of these fake profiles on Instagram and also on TikTok...” he began.

Hypasounds explained that the impersonators are not simply creating profiles with his name. According to the artiste, some of the accounts are using AI-generated or digitally generated images of him, alongside photographs and other content taken from his legitimate social media platforms, making the fraudulent accounts appear authentic.

The situation, he warned, has also extended beyond social media activity. Fake email addresses are reportedly being used by individuals who claim to be Hypasounds or representatives acting on his behalf, with some allegedly attempting to engage businesses and event promoters in professional and commercial matters.

That development makes the warning particularly important for promoters and corporate entities, where conversations involving bookings, appearances, sponsorships, endorsements and payments can quickly move from social media into email and other communication channels.

Hypasounds is therefore urging anyone looking to do business with him to verify that they are communicating through his legitimate channels before agreeing to any arrangements, sending money or sharing sensitive information.

The incident also highlights a growing challenge facing entertainers and public figures as artificial intelligence makes it increasingly easy to create convincing images and online profiles capable of giving fraudulent accounts an appearance of legitimacy. by @postfyi

Notting Hill Carnival is more than one of London’s biggest parties. It is one of the world’s most powerful expressions of Caribbean culture, born from community, resilience and the struggle for belonging.

In 1966, Rhaune Laslett organised a neighbourhood street festival in Notting Hill, an area scarred by racial tension and poor housing. When Trinidadian steelpan pioneer Russell Henderson and his band took their music into the streets, something much bigger began. Over six decades, Caribbean music, mas, steelpan, calypso, soca, sound systems and food transformed the event into a global celebration of Caribbean identity.

Today, more than two million people can descend on West London for Carnival, with the event contributing close to £400 million to London’s economy.

But as Notting Hill Carnival celebrates its 60th anniversary, its leadership is asking an important question: what does the city owe the Carnival that gives so much to it?

CEO Matthew Phillip has repeatedly stressed that Carnival did not begin as a spectacle. It began because a community needed a way to come together. And while businesses, brands and the city benefit from the enormous attention, tourism and economic activity Carnival generates, the people and communities who build it must also see meaningful investment returned to them.

That means supporting the mas bands, steelbands, sound systems, artists, volunteers and grassroots communities that keep Carnival alive—not simply showing up when it is time to make headlines, attach a brand to the culture or profit from the crowds.

There is already movement in that direction. In 2026, Notting Hill Carnival launched a £60,000 Community Support Fund for participating bands and sound systems, while City Hall committed an additional £4.66 million toward the event’s infrastructure and safety.

This year's theme, RESPECT 60, therefore feels bigger than an anniversary slogan.

It is a reminder that culture deserves investment. History deserves protection. The people who carry the tradition forward deserve support.

60 years behind us. 60 years ahead of us.
Notting Hill Carnival is not simply something London hosts. It is something London must respect. by @postfyi

Jamaican Dancehall superstar Spice has officially touched down in Barbados and is already expressing her excitement for the climax of Crop Over 2026.

The Queen of Dancehall arrived on the island as part of her specially curated Bestie Weekend 2026, which this year takes her fans directly into the heart of the Crop Over experience.

“Crop Over is one of a kind,” Spice said while sharing her excitement about being in Barbados. “Crop Over doesn’t only represent Barbados, it represents the Caribbean.”

Running August 1–4, Bestie Weekend Barbados is designed as a three-night luxury getaway allowing Spice's “Besties” to experience the festival alongside her.

According to the official package, the experience includes luxury hotel accommodation, all-inclusive food and beverages, a welcome dinner, airport and event transportation, entry to Crop Over events, security, a photographer and a photo opportunity with Spice. Guests who selected the costume package also receive a Grand Kadooment  costume valued at US$1,200 or more.

The Barbados edition follows Spice's 2025 Bestie Weekend in Jamaica and represents a major Caribbean expansion of the experience, combining her fan community with one of the region's biggest cultural festivals.

With Crop Over heading into its biggest weekend, Spice and her Besties are set to get a full taste of Bajan carnival culture, music, fetes and the energy that surrounds the festival's grand finale.

And judging from Spice's reaction upon arrival, she understands that Crop Over's significance stretches well beyond Barbados — it's a celebration of Caribbean culture on a much bigger stage. by @postfyi

Prime Minister Mia Mottley is urging Barbados' music and cultural industry to protect the legacy of traditional calypso and soca, cautioning that the genres which helped shape the Crop Over Festival should not be pushed aside by newer musical styles.

Speaking during the St. Philip Ideas Forum at the Princess Margaret Secondary School on Monday evening, Mottley acknowledged the creativity of younger artistes and the fresh sounds they are bringing to the industry. However, she stressed that there must always be room for the traditional Crop Over music that has defined the festival for generations.

She said: "A lot of the music that's finding itself into the mainstream Crop Over now is really mainstream music for all year round, the youngsters are doing some brilliant innovations, but those innovations do not have to lock themselves into Crop Over alone." by @postfyi
