🍃 POSTPARTUM NOURISHMENT 🍃

One of the biggest myths about motherhood is that exhaustion, depletion and running on empty are simply part of the job.

I don't believe they should be.

After growing, birthing and feeding a baby, your body has incredible nutritional needs. Yet so many mothers enter postpartum with little preparation, little support, and no real plan for nourishing themselves.

I've been that mother.

The one surviving on whatever food was easiest to grab.

The one putting everyone else's needs first, while breastfeeding exclusively.

The one wondering why I felt so exhausted - not just because of the interrupted sleep.

What I've learned through five babies, years of study, and supporting mothers is this:

A nourished mother has more energy to enjoy her baby, recovers well, supported hormones, and navigates the challenges of motherhood with more ease.

That's why I'm passionate about helping women prepare before baby arrives.

Because motherhood isn't just about caring for your baby.

You matter too. 🦋

If you're pregnant, it's vital to be more prepared for after birth, and know how to nourish yourself. Start with my free guide via the link in my bio. 🍃

Hi Mama 🦋

I'm Tara.

A mum of five, with children ranging from 13 yo to 35 years old (as at 2026).

I've experienced motherhood as a 19-year-old first-time mum, and again as a 41-year-old mum welcoming my fifth baby.

And 2 unassisted miscarriages.

And despite the age difference, one thing remained true:

My body needed nourishment.
My body needed care.
And I needed the support to breastfeed my baby confidently and enjoy motherhood instead of simply surviving it.

For years, I believed exhaustion, breastfeeding pain and pushing myself because I was a busy mum was how motherhood was.

Now I know differently.

That's why I created Postpartum Nurturing.

Because I've seen far too many mothers enter postpartum with little preparation, little support, and the belief that feeling overwhelmed and running on empty is just something they have to accept.

I don't believe it should be that way.

I'm passionate about helping women prepare for a nourished postpartum, that supports their digestive system for optimal recovery, and a more confident breastfeeding journey. Our motherhood journey needs to feel supported because we give so much . 🍃

Around here you'll find practical guidance, nourishment, breastfeeding support, and plenty of conversations about caring for mothers - not just babies.

Because mothers matter too. In fact the health of a mother affects the family. 🦋

I'd love to know where you're joining me from and whether you're pregnant, postpartum, or supporting a mother on her journey.

And jump up to my bio now to grab your free copy of “A Joyful Postpartum “🍃

🦋 CONFIDENT, GENTLE BREASTFEEDING 🦋

If you're pregnant with your next baby and your first breastfeeding experience didn't go the way you'd hoped...

You simply want to breastfeed your baby without pain, feel confident in your choices, and enjoy the precious early months instead of spending them stressed, exhausted and searching for answers.

Many mothers tell me they entered breastfeeding the first time believing it would happen naturally.

Then came the conflicting, confusing advice.

The pain.

The cracked nipples.

Being told you don’t have enough milk.

Which lead to constantly pumping and “topping up” your baby.

The feeling that everyone had an opinion, but nobody seemed able to help. And your maternal instincts disregarded.

This time you know you want to experience a confident, painfree journey.

I'd like you to know, you have the opportunity to prepare differently.

As a Thompson Method Breastfeeding Educator, I help pregnant women understand how breastfeeding works before their baby arrives.

You'll learn:
🍃 How to reduce the risk of nipple pain and damage
🍃 How to gently guide your baby to the breast
🍃 How your breastmilk supply works
🍃 How to feel more confident and prepared with your choices in labour
🍃 How to approach breastfeeding with empowerment rather than fear

Because breastfeeding support shouldn't begin when you're exhausted and overwhelmed.

It should begin before your baby is born.

If you'd love a more confident and comfortable breastfeeding journey this time around, send me a DM with the word "BREASTFEED". 🦋🍃

Have you ever been vegetarian or vegan, and craved meat during your pregnancy or during the early weeks/months postpartum?

I remember when I was pregnant with my 5th baby, and vegan, and I was craving fish. However, I was so afraid of being judged by my vegan community that I denied if for months. Until one day we were visiting a beachside town, and I HAD to order it!

Now, knowing what I know about how much nutrients our body needs - before, during and after having a baby - I wish I’d honoured my body’s needs (and overcame my fears of judgement).

2 mama’s who worked with me after birth were also vegan and were craving meat. Once they understood that their body needed quality protein and fats to support hormones, repair tissue and help with postpartum recovery, they felt more at ease eating meat.

However, I don’t suggest that a vegan/vegetarian launches into eating heavy meat. There needs to be a gentle transition for the digestive system.

If you’d like to know more about the healing foods (even if you’re a meat eater) that support postpartum recovery, pop the emoji 🍗 in the comments. by @postpartum_nurturing

We spend so much time preparing for the birth:
• Birth plan
• Tiny clothes and nappies
• Baby carriers, prams and cuddly toys

And yes those things matter - but what will happen when you come home, or your doula has gone home?

You’ll be recovering from a huge experience. Your body is birthing a tiny human. And you will be slowly increasing your breast milk supply ready to feed what feels like non-stop!

But who will be looking after you?
Who is going to making you the deeply nourishing foods to support your recovery?
Who is going to be supporting you if breastfeeding is painful or harder than you expected?

This is why I believe postpartum preparation needs to start during pregnancy, because when you prepare ahead of time you don’t have to figure everything out while you’re exhausted and holding a newborn.

If you’re pregnant or just had your baby and want to feel more prepared for those first months and confidently breastfeed your baby, DM me “PREP” and I’ll share something with you.

We spend months preparing for birth but who is preparing you for what comes after?

Because birth is only the beginning.

Your body needs to recover.

You have to replenish your body and energy.

You may be learning to breastfeed.

You’re suddenly responsible for a tiny human 24/7.

And you still need to eat, sleep, heal and function.

Women shouldn’t be expected to figure all of that out once the baby arrives.

Postpartum preparation needs to be part of pregnancy care before your baby arrives.

Know what you’re going to eat that supports your body.

Have in place a few people who are going to help you.

Understand how breastfeeding works and what can cause nipple trauma and breastfeeding challenges.

Don’t just prepare for the birth.
Prepare for the mother you’re about to become.

If you’re pregnant and want to feel prepared, supported and confident when your baby arrives, go ahead and DM me “PREP”. by @postpartum_nurturing

You know when you discover something that makes life that little bit easier and you think “why did I not know this years ago!?” 😆

Get some paper tape and a marker - it takes 2 seconds to write the contents and the date. No more guessing when it was made 🤔

And no more forgetting what’s inside the container.

If you have meals being made for you while in the early weeks postpartum, have your cooks do this so you aren’t having to guess and risking eating old food!

Share this if you find it helpful!

According to Dr Robyn Thompson’s research, the increase in cutting of babies frenula has gone through the roof!

And no one is asking why!

866% increase in the USA.
490% increase in Australia.
Possibly even more.

It’s a brutal procedure using no anesthetic. Often done more than once 😭

What if you were informed about what really happens in your baby’s mouth?

If you’re pregnant and want to truly be informed about frenotomies, let me know asap. Comment “Baby” below. by @postpartum_nurturing

Some people believe that eating whole foods and a big variety is the way to nourish yourself postpartum…

But from the knowledge, training and personal experience I’ve gained around how the postpartum body functions, I now understand that digestion is compromised after birth.

And there’s a reason many cultures, for centuries, have fed new mothers warm soups, broths and simple stews.

They’re nourishing.

They’re comforting.

And they’re easier for the body to digest, utilising the nutrients.

Beef lasagne is not on the list.

Have you ever eaten a heavy meal and felt like it was just sitting in your gut?

It’s not a great feeling. And it often makes you feel so tired.

And when your digestive system is lacking the enzymes, your body isn’t making the most of all those nutrients .

After growing a baby for nine months, giving birth, healing and then producing breastmilk, your body has a LOT of work to do. It’s focus is healing, producing hormones, and looking after your baby.

This is why postpartum nourishment needs to be about more than simply eating “healthy” food.

It’s about giving your body food that supports healing, replenishment and digestion.

A simple and nutritious meal your family or friends can make you while you focus on resting, healing and nurturing your baby.

When you have a newborn in your arms you don’t need to be also thinking about what to have for lunch.

And if you do happen to find yourself with no help? A meal like this takes 6-10 minutes to put together and 25-30 minutes to bake.

Keep it simple, warm and easy to digest - and gluten free is best too!

I share simple, delicious and nutritious meals inside the Replenished Mother, Thriving Baby method, so you can prepare before your baby arrives and have your village ready to nourish you too.

I seem to be good at putting pressure on myself to find a ritual or routine and stick to it…. 🤦🏻‍♀️

And on reflection I believe this comes from watching my Italian great grandmother have her daily routine day in and day out, and never changing it. As I observed that growing up I believed that to live a long life (she lived until she was about 96), you must do the same thing every day. And I can see the benefits…

Yet I keep dropping off or changing it, and I realised today that’s okay!

So, today the sun is shining. It’s Sunday and I have a day home and I started the morning quietly in bed with my Kriya practice (thanks to @the_reconnected ) and then a Nutritious Movement class that I do online with the wonderful Katy Bowman @nutritiousmovement and then I skin brushed before my shower.

I oiled my scalp and massaged the top of my head (so many sore spots!).

I ate my 2 spoonfuls of black sesame seed and date paste 🤤and made myself a decaf coffee with cardamom (I don’t drink coffee much).

Sat out in the sunshine with the kitten, setting my intention for today and my week ahead.

This feels so peaceful and good and I realised I don’t have to do this every single day. I can to do it on a Sunday or days I have a slow morning.

If you’re a busy mama, there are a little steps you can take for self care too and I highly recommend getting out into the morning sunshine for at least five 5, 10 or 15 minutes - it’s a great start to your day!

What is one thing you will fo today? Share in the comments 😘 by @postpartum_nurturing

If you’ve discovered the deliciousness of millet make sure you soak the grain before cooking.

Why?

Soaking grains, nuts and seeds helps reduce phytates which are compounds that bind to mine and make them less available for absorption.

And when we’re talking about nourishing your postpartum body you want to get as much nutrition as possible from the food you’re eating. When your food is easier to digest, you benefit more from the nutrients - which is exactly what your body needs.

I’ve been having this millet porridge for breakfast for the last few mornings and I’m loving it!

Want the recipe? Comment “PORRIDGE”and I’ll send it to you!
