Thrive Proactive Health has hosted a number of PRI courses over the years. Its founder, @juliea2zblandin understands the power of the asymmetrical diaphragm and the negative effects on movement that occur when this diaphragm gets patterned and restricted. It’s therefore important to her to provide her staff exposure to all that PRI has to offer for their patients/clients. I was very fortunate to have both @jason.robey and @kasiagalica in the house. Throughout the weekend, they shared their professional experiences from years of applying PRI course work, with Jason further demonstrating nuances of testing and manual techniques. Thank you both!

Our lengthy lab sessions were devoted to assessment of overactive chains of muscles, the anterior interior and brachial chains. Attendees then learned how to help a left diaphragm acquire its zone of apposition, inhibit these overactive chains, and guide air flow in and out of their “patients” chest wall into formerly restricted areas, for efficient upright, alternating activity. Simply put, PRI techniques reorient our sense of selves when upright.

Thank you Erika Casarez, Meghan Chockley, James Cox, Kelli Funkhouser, Dani Kanter, Megan Lewellen, Laura Marioneaux, Sofia Nelson, Fabi Perlingeiro, Heidi Sheth, Molly Sullivan, Amanda Tungett, Molly Weber, and Alex Zapisek for helping me demonstrate tests and techniques. Thank you Barry LaPlante for your tech assistance. And thank you Thrive clinicians – Erica, Barry, Megan, Chantel Owen, Andrea Tomkins, and Amanda for providing a wonderful learning environment. Impingement and Instability is coming your way on March 6-7. Be sure to sign up – this course will take your PRI understanding to the next level!

What a wonderful time I had last weekend in Casper, Wyoming.

Wonder was the word of the weekend. Wyoming fills me with wonder and I always have a wonderful time when I travel through the state.

Nicole Cadwell took me on a tour to see 5 of the 7 Wonders of Casper. They were wonderful! And so was Nicole. She is the official PRI Influencer of Wyoming and for the OT community. Nicole and most of the wonderful staff of Hand and PT of Wyoming were present learning about wonderful patterns of airflow of the thorax. Occupational therapists made up about 50% of the class attendees! Wonderful!

Wind City Physical Therapy were wonderful hosts and very accommodating for the nearly 40 wonderful participants. I had a wonderful time interacting with them and discussing the power of patterned airflow in the thorax.

It was wonderful having PRC legends Lisa Kelly and Greer Mackie in attendance, we were fortunate to have their advice and guidance for all the new PRI learners. Karine and Doreen were my fellow wonderful Coloradoans that made the trek north to Wyoming to complete their primary course trifecta. Always a wonderful time being with them and seeing their bright, smiling faces in the front row :)

Teaching Postural Respiration is always a good reminder of the wonder that is the thorax and how powerful ribcage patterns and positions can influence human locomotion and performance.

Thanks to all of those in attendance for such a wonderful weekend in Wyoming!

Seeing clearly does not mean you’re sensing correctly.

Integration of systems requires the involvement of the insular cortex. Linking how someone feels, to how they see, is what cements it……

Valencia ☀️

PRI. Pelvis. Posture. Patterns. Parasympathetics. Planes. Pressure.

All concepts presented this past weekend in Valencia, California, by the final *P — oulin! *

This course brought together clinicians who were both new to the science and those with years of experience. I flew coast to coast, but my travel distance was certainly trumped by Shuhan Zhang, PT, who traveled all the way from China to attend her very first PRI course! 🌎

A huge thank you to TJ, John, and their entire team @henrymayohosp for making us feel so welcomed. I fielded so many thoughtful questions throughout the weekend, and the enthusiasm and curiosity of this group was contagious.

“I thought it was great to have all the case studies of various types and ages of people. It will be helpful in my practice as I was able to see how implementing different strategies can help overall improvement even with older patients.

I do not work in a pediatric clinic, although occasionally we do see peds, however, we do see a lot of geriatric patients that some of these skills would be helpful for, such as the push/pull strategies. It also helps me gain a larger perspective on the role of early developmental milestones and how those play a role in how someone functions throughout their entire life.”

CIRCULARITY! An apt word for the past two days in Salem, OR at First Call Home Health. The word circularity can reference shape, keeping things moving in a continuous loop or cycle, and a model that focuses on sharing, reusing, and recycling existing materials.

Myokinematic Restoration discusses how a circular ring of bones, the pelvis, drives position of a circular socket, the acetabulum, which dictates movement capacity around the circular ball of a femur.

The weekend was also a “full circle” moment for me as the last time I was at First Call I was a student at an Impingement and Instability course about 12 years ago. Returning as the instructor provided an opportunity to reflect on the path that lead to being in front of the class. As always, it was an honor to serve in that role.

A big thank you to the attendees and our hosts who create a great environment for both learning and teaching!

Chapel Hill, NC is well-known for some big name universities, but it was easy to see why it is also a hub for premiere PRI care. We had the honor of being hosted by the team at Advance Physical Therapy to present Occlusal Cervical Restoration to a group that included dentists, physical therapists, body workers and chiropractors, all of whom had the same questions: “How can we work better together to deliver superior outcomes to our patients?”

In the course, Ron laid out how we use our mouths for orientation and sense of space, but also how occlusal patterns seen in the mouth are indicative of deeper neurosensory patterning, which reflects that person’s management (or mismanagement) of force throughout their body. The participants were provided guidance on how to identify when someone requires collaborative work from a dentist-therapist team in order to optimize outcomes and also how to integrate that care. The use of orthotics in the role of helping re-orient our position and sense of space to optimize upright function in the course of a program was explained and demonstrated.

This course largely centered around how our oral occlusion is a reflection of the body patterns underneath it as our bodies use the floor under our feet and the floor in our mouth in a directly correlated relationship, to generate and utilize force. The engagement and questions of the highly experienced PRI clinicians and the open-minded dentists in the room clearly show that these dentist-therapist teams are going to be a force in the world of multidisciplinary collaborative care and I am excited for the patients that will benefit from their care. It was truly an honor to be among this group.

Thank you to Jean Masse, Joe Belding, Heather McLaughlin and Debra Albrecht for being such welcoming hosts and thank you to each of the participants who were willing to step into a world that included “cross-talk” with other disciplines. We are looking forward to the next running of this course in less than 2 months!

On the weekend of September 11, 2026, I flew to New York City to teach this fundamental yet highly integrated primary course, Myokinematics of the Hip and Pelvis.

I chose to demonstrate some techniques that are less commonly introduced in an introductory class, including a standing adductor inhibition and a supine right quadratus/left psoas inhibition technique, the Supine Supported Right Iliacus. This gave me the opportunity to highlight the importance of IS stability—not only through the posterior right glute max, but also through the anterior right iliacus.

The concept of leading with your left hand and right leg to promote further left hip stability was repeated several times throughout the course, both in treatment and in creating functional changes that interrupt a client’s established patterns.

New York City never disappoints me, and I hope to return year after year to share my knowledge and insights with the clinicians who attend these courses. I look forward to meeting again and continuing the learning together!

A special shoutout to @andrewxenops for being my trusty lab assistant once again this weekend. And a very special thank-you to Andi Boe, DPT, our @finishlinept representative and host for the weekend. I feel like I’m coming home every time I teach here.
