Your strong side isn’t strong. It’s stuck.

You have a side that squats deeper, pushes harder, feels more stable. You’ve been training it more because it performs better.

That side can’t do anything else. Can’t flex. Can’t yield. Can’t alternate. It does one thing well. That’s not strength.

The shaky side? That’s the one searching. The nervous system is looking for a position it hasn’t used in a while. Searching is what getting better looks like.

@posturalrestoration is teaching me that your breathing and your emotions have a two-way conversation. 🧠🌬️

Stress can change how you breathe—and how you breathe can influence how you feel.

The diaphragm helps us breathe, supports our posture, and manages pressure within the trunk. Breathing also interacts with brain networks involved in alertness and emotional processing.

Gentle, slower breathing may help reduce physical arousal, giving you a little more space to respond when emotions feel overwhelming. 🤍

The goal isn’t the biggest breath possible. It’s a comfortable breath you don’t have to force.

One thing I’m appreciating as I study Postural Respiration: movement, breathing, and our emotional experience are connected.

A coach shared a story once where he helped a client bench 315 because that’s what the client said their goal was…

The coach was super excited he had helped them accomplish their goal.

The client said: “I thought I’d have a bigger chest…”

So the client thought that if he could bench 315, he’d have a bigger chest, but strength was never the true goal. Size was.

Want a bigger bench and more strength?
Want to build muscle and grow?
Lose fat and experience body recomp?
Move pain-free and feel good?

How you answer the questions for your true goals will determine the best path to follow.

Tell me your true goals and I can help you get there. 🙌

Too many people haven’t done the deeper work and then whatever work they are doing may not be the best thing for them to reach their goals. 🧐

Need help with your elbows? Shoulders? And strength or aesthetic goals?

DM me and let’s connect. :)

The side you sleep on. The shoe that wears out. The breath that only fills one side.

You thought it stopped at the ribcage.

It doesn’t.

The pattern goes all the way up — pelvis to ribcage to neck to jaw to eyes. Each level compensating for the one below. That tight neck, the clenchy jaw, the eye that strains more — they’re not separate problems. They’re the same chain.

Three things you can check right now:

→ Which side do you clench on?
→ Which nostril breathes easier?
→ Which eye do you wink with?

All the same side? That’s the chain.

We were honored to host the Postural Respiration course at Thrive Proactive Health this weekend!

Led by Louise Kelley, DPT, PRC, from the Postural Restoration Institute, this two-day course brought together healthcare professionals for hands-on learning, collaboration, and a deeper understanding of the relationship between breathing, posture, and movement.

It was wonderful to see so many dedicated professionals come together to learn, share knowledge, and continue growing in their practice.

A big thank-you to Louise Kelley and everyone who attended for making this such a great weekend!

We're grateful to have had the opportunity to host this educational experience at Thrive! 🧡

When it comes to physical training, this Bozeman bloke plays by Aussie rules.

Ben Bese runs a Bozeman gym that doesn't behave like a gym. Ascend Movement Training blends powerlifting, mobility work and breathwork to help people get out of chronic pain and stay strong for life, and Ben is neither a personal trainer nor a physical therapist. He's somewhere in the middle, and he explains exactly where that line is.

Full interview: https://www.explorebigsky.com/episodes/ascend

In this episode: why cold plunging right after a strength workout may undo the work you just did, why you absolutely can build muscle after 60, what a chiropractic adjustment does and doesn't fix, and what Ben would tell the Silicon Valley guys injecting young blood to live forever. Plus, Joe asks whether his wife and co-host Michelle is slowly destroying her body by running every day, and then submits to a custom workout called "The Joe," which goes about as well as you'd expect.

Ben grew up near Melbourne, played semi-pro Australian rules football, and founded Ascend with his wife in 2019 after watching too many athletes get stuck with shoulders and backs that never healed. Ascend is now in the Story Mill area of Bozeman at:

Put your hands on your ribs. Left hand, left side. Right hand, right side. Breathe in.

One side moves more. Probably the right.

Your diaphragm is built asymmetric. The right half is bigger, sits higher, and has the liver bracing it from below. The left side shares space with the heart. Less support, less leverage, less expansion.

In the resting pattern we’ve been tracking — the one that picks your sleep side and wears out your shoe — the left diaphragm loses its dome shape. When it flattens, it can’t pull air into the left chest. So the right side does the work.

Twenty thousand breaths a day. Every one reinforcing the same side.

Swipe through. Then try the test tonight: lie on your left side, hands on your ribs, and see which side fills.

The PT Spot is growing, and I’m looking for a personal trainer who’s curious about the body, passionate about longevity, and excited to keep learning. 🤍

This role goes beyond a standard workout. You’ll help patients build strength, improve movement quality, and carry the progress they make in physical therapy into lasting fitness and confidence.

The ideal candidate holds a CSCS and has PRI training—or an interest in Postural Restoration and a willingness to take courses, with the long-term goal of earning the Postural Restoration Trained (PRT) credential. Pilates experience is a plus.

You should value continuing education and be excited to collaborate with physical therapists, physicians, and other providers to support each patient’s goals through coordinated training.

Our boutique practice serves an exclusive, high-end clientele who value individualized attention and discretion. Professionalism, confidentiality, and respect for patient privacy are essential.

This is a part-time opportunity for someone who wants to bring thoughtful, whole-body training into a collaborative care environment.

Send your résumé to theptspotpc@gmail.com. Know someone who would be a great fit? Tag them or share this post!
