l’shana tova!!! rosh hashana, or the jewish new year of 5787, begins this weekend and we are so excited to feature some specials! our weekly challah will be in a spiral shape to represent the new year and the cycle of life :)

also the most fun (and yummy) part of rosh hashana is dipping apples in honey, soooooo of course we will have an apples and honey babka all weekend at both locations!!

you read that right, it’s halal!

when going to BOTH bagel and deli, our turkey, chicken (soup and salad!), pepperoni, and beef bacon are all halal!

soooo why halal and not kosher u may ask?? buying kosher meats for a restaurant in a town like knoxville is very hard, kosher distributors do not make frequent trips here which makes it $$$$$. also… serving unkosher meat (like a pastrami reuben :P) in a space makes it automatically unkosher, and we can’t take these loved (and important to our story) menu items away from you all!

BUT since we care so much about where our food comes from, we have chosen to source mainly halal meats, so there can be a certification of humane practices and we can welcome even more of our customers who eat halal meats for religious reasons!

when ordering, if you ever are curious or hesitant, our chefs are there to help! ask away and they will be able to answer any of your questions and concerns :)))

cherry babka is here!!

this tart, fruity, and baked treat is filled with freshhhh cherries and an elderflower syrup. think cherry pie, ice cream, the summer time…. yum!!!!

served with house made vanilla whipped cream on the side, it’s the best treat to pick up at the deli or bagel shop!

who’s harold? And why is his coffee cake so good!  well… knoxville has had three jewish delis since it was founded - harold’s, harry’s and potchke! harold’s was the OG and in business from 1948-2005, an incredibly long time for any restaurant to be around for. harold shersky and his wife addie were there all the time and it was truly the gathering place for everyone downtown.  ever since opening potchke, we wanted to pay tribute to harold’s in some way… we both share sandwiches like reubens, whitefish and lox!  we were introduced to one of their desserts by our neighbor who lives across the street from us! he frequented harold’s and made us addie’s special Apple and pecan coffee cake.   it was so delicious, we knew that it would be the perfect addition to our pastry case alongside our yummy babka and rugelach (and even better with a cup of hot coffee)  we make our version with crushed pumpkin seeds and dairy free butter and it is a completely nut free dessert that all can enjoy ;)

get harolds coffee cake at the deli or bagel shop… only on the weekends though!!!

our seasonal blueberry bagels are still here! but not for too much longer…

this recipe is slightly different and even better than last year, its even fluffier ( thanks to @tortatime )! we think its just how a blueberry bagel should be.

stop into the bagel shop and try it with one of our yummyyyyyy schmears. right now we have a whipped brown butter spiced schmear with topped with fresh peaches (thanks to @angelicaobenschain )... sounds like the perfect combo! get it while you can :)

got egg cream? we do!

something on our menu that you may not have heard of before is a drink called an Egg Cream! It contains neither egg, nor cream and no one is 100% sure where the name came from, but it was so popular that people never stopped making it!  it is an old-school bubbe and zayde style drink that was popular in the lower east side when our grandparents and great grandparents were chillin at the soda fountain. some think it came from being a cheaper version of a drink that actually had egg and cream in it, others think it was a mispronunciation of “echt cream” which means “good cream” in Yiddish!

all we know is that we make it the super traditional way with the fox’s u-bet syrup, local full fat milk and fresh sparkling water. Yes, it’s sparkling chocolate milk… and yes it’s delicioussss!!

our spring latte is still here for a couple more weeks! stop by to try the carrot cake latte... or matcha, or whatever drink your heart desires!

carrots may seem like a fall flavor, but theyre a spring vegetable that creates a sweeter juice that complements our @adrift.coffee espresso so well!

we juice fresh carrots, from @naturally_green_farm , daily to make a deliciously spiced syrup, and top it with a tangy cream cheese whip and dehydrated carrot dust :P
