✨ Thrilled to share that my project "E-phemeral" was featured in the E-Stitches Collective zine, showcased at the E-Textiles Conference 2024 in Berlin. Hosted at Fraunhofer IZM, the conference celebrated innovation, sustainability, and the artistry of e-textiles.

The zine featured 29 incredible projects, exploring creative interventions at the intersection of art, design, and technology—highlighting thoughtful, sustainable practices for the future. Seeing my project alongside such exciting new work was truly inspiring. 🌿

What a year full of tears and growth!?! 💧🌱🩷

This was one of the most challenging yet rewarding years of my life. As I stood at Convocation this Wednesday, my heart filled with both anxiety and joy for what's next. But first, I want to share my deep appreciation and love for all these wonderful people in these pictures who have had a massive part in my life this year. You guys make me feel at home when I'm with you.

I officially have an MA in Textiles from the Royal College of Art. Thank you, my brilliant family for having faith in me. My partner @tevgrave for everything you have been this year. And my therapist, Aditi, for keeping me afloat in so many ways, hahaha.

Hi! I’m Pournima, an interdisciplinary practitioner specialising in Textiles at the Royal College of Art. My creative journey is driven by a focus on innovation through design, particularly in the realm of speculative design. This approach, as argued by authors Dunne and Raby in Speculative Everything, liberates ideas that increase the odds of achieving desirable futures, opening up a world of possibilities.

In my practice, I have a strong background in research, circularity as a system, and communication. Building on that foundation, I have pursued an interest in technology to create emotionally impactful, serendipitous interactions with materials in my work. To this end, I am developing responsive, adaptive, sensory structures with shape-shifting qualities. Currently, I am focusing my studies on sculpting movements within forms using various materials and processes to promote tactility in immersive experiences as therapy.

This pretty pretty saree by @kasuti_kavana has to be on my grid. Played around with the drape for my friend's wedding a year back. This one is a Coorgi drape, thanks to @borderandfall for their beautiful archival The Sari Series 💌

Painting this part of Ilkal pallu on paper was some sort of therapy. My grandma wore Ilkal every day of her life. While she didn't remember who I was by the end, I'll always remember the countless times I've found comfort in her pallu. 💌 by @pournimoon

The Evil Twins
.

I have always felt like I have two people in my brain, one Pournima is soo curious, hyper-excited to try new things and gets very easily bored. On the other hand, the other Pournima wants to curl up in bed, read a book, sleep for 15 hours and only wake up to stuff her mouth. And here’s the ridiculous bit, she’s a big feeler, and every other day it feels like the world is at its end! The two Pournimas have been at war most of my life. Again, I'm not saying the war is over yet. This is just an acknowledgement of the war. :))))))

But recently, I have been reading up a lot about how my mind works. Turns out, the presence of these two Pournimas is the reason why I am “creative”. And now my therapist says I am supposed to learn to love them? To commemorate this new relationship I’m trying to build with the “evil twins”, I am going to use this space to document what happens. This “what happens” is undefined, but maybe it’s a story? Let’s find out together.

Or that’s what I feel at the moment. :)
