I did some more fine tuning health wise, and today I had the best ride I’ve had in months. Hoping this momentum will continue, but if things stay here for a while that’s fine. Being able to witness a sunrise like this is the real gift…

Despite some beautiful autumn weather, this was my first ride in a couple of weeks. These health issues leave me in murky uncharted waters at times, uncertain if I’ll still be able to get out here. But when you love something this much, you don’t give up. It may not be the same as it was, but even having just a piece of it can fill your heart and ignite your soul…

It’s amazing how healing nature can be. Any time I am feeling really out of balance, I realize the thing I’m missing is this. The outdoors. Fresh air in my lungs, sun warming my face, birds singing in my ears. No matter what the season, it always calls me back. There are so many things I love in life, but this will always be at my center…

On the way home from our Michigan trip, I got a compelling urge to fly a kite on the beach. So I found both and did it. If you haven’t flown a kite recently, I highly recommend it. It’s the kind of joy that delights even the sleepiest parts of your soul…

I went for my first ride in three weeks. And it was the best one I’ve had in a long time. There’s still work to do and I don’t know if I’ll ever get back to riding how I used to because of the health issues. But that’s ok. Today was a win, and I’ll take gladly take it…

As summer winds down, I’ve been reflecting on the wonderful memories of the last few months. A highlight - after a hiatus of many, many years we went on a couple of camping trips. I had forgotten how spending a few days in the woods can relax your mind and free your soul. We are definitely going to add this back in the summertime rotation next year…

I went to the beach for what I knew might be the last time I could enjoy it before the colder weather set in. But as I was soaking in the moment something was in the back of my mind. It was the large dunes behind me. I had once climbed to the top and the view was spectacular. But I hadn’t been back there since. When I got Covid last November, all my health issues flared up and I haven’t been the same. Climbing stairs and hills has become particularly tough, so I’ve been avoiding them if I can. But as I sat there I could feel that dune calling to me. So I decided to answer and attempted to climb it. And I did it. The funny thing is. It wasn’t nearly as difficult as I thought it would be. It made me realize we are sometimes victims of other people’s narratives and labels of us. Finding out I have a genetic disorder and secondary health conditions got in my head. I let it deter me from achieving things that would make my mind, body and soul happy. But the truth is, I’ve been dealing with these issues my whole life. It may have gotten worse lately, but at my core I’m still the same. So from this point forward, I choose my own narrative. I will be lead by my own mind and heart, and not the limitations others may place on me. Will I falter sometimes? Sure I will. But knowing I tried instead of being on the sidelines will be a victory in itself. You don’t know what you are capable of until you take a chance and see…
